This is a nice budget hotel with some decent options for dining nearby. The room is relatively clean, and the hotel is newer. However, there are some big issues that have to be accepted up front:
While this is a newer hotel, many of the fixtures and finished are of low quality. The towel rack is falling out of the wall, the tile is cracked in the bathroom, all the corners and veneer are chipped and broken. My room door is hung crooked and lets light in from outside. There is limited lighting in the room from a handful of small lamps. The entire room looks shabby already.
The mattresses are very thin, and very firm. Do not expect a comfortable night of sleep.
The WI-FI/internet is very slow and incredibly bad. I work from the road and spent three nights at this location, and found myself unable to get an internet connection much of the time. I've had to tether my laptop to my cellphone (on just two bars) to download basic emails. Completely unacceptable.
The staff is nice, but they put me in a room by the side door, and I can hear it opening and closing all night long through the thin walls. It literally shakes everything inside my room every time the door slams shut.
It's been interesting, but I don't think I'll be staying here again...
Read moreJay, the Manager of the Best Western Hotel in La Vernia, TX, was AWESOME!!! I was exhausted from traveling, and my husband had went to bed early in our room, locking our door with the bolt lock. I was locked out, and it was the middle of the night! Jay was so patient and kind in my moment of frustration and distress- he came up to our room, and bypassed the locked door to get me into my room so that I could get just a few precious hours of sleep. It was the middle of the night, and still I was greeted by him with friendliness, cheerfulnes, and kindness!
Also, shout out to Gina, the Head of Housekeeping at this location! I always travel with my own bedding because I never sleep in the sheets/bedding at hotels- except for this one!!! It is so clean, so well maintained, and so prestine that I didn't even need my own bedding 🎊🎉🎈🎉🎊 Whatever you're doing in your work & with your staff Gina, keep it up!...
Read moreI spend about 10 days per month in a hotel and mostly stay at BW locations. I stayed in this hotel for two nights on a business trip and had a great experience. My room looked recently updated and was clean and quiet, even though it was right near the elevator.
It’s a 30-40 minute drive to San Antonio and was much more affordable than the hotels in the city. There are basic fast food places near by, and it’s close to the highway. The location felt safe and had free parking.
The breakfast was pretty standard for best western— eggs, bacon or sausage, bagels and muffins, a waffle maker, some fruit, cereal/oatmeal, and yogurt. The only disappointment there was that I can’t have milk, and there weren’t any non-dairy milk alternatives like I’ve seen at most other BW locations...
