Short Review: Beautiful property ruined by poor management.
The Good: Breathtaking views, well maintained property. The Bad: Property is right in between the highway and a busy street, so if you are looking for a peaceful and quiet location, this is not it. The Ugly: We had a very poor interaction with the management, Leslie to be exact. Since we had an electric vehicle, and they advertise that they have charging stations, we made our reservation with a note requesting an EV charging spot. It turns out there are 4 parking spots with chargers in the property, but they were all occupied with non-electric vehicles. When a spot opened up, Leslie told us to park where there is a charger. The thing is, parking spots had no lane, numbers that I could see, or park stoppers indicating which way to park, vertically or horizontally. I parked the way it made most sense (not the first time I am parking or charging the car), closer to the charger leaving plenty of space for someone else to park near me, then we walked to grab dinner. Leslie called me 3 times while I noticed later in the evening since I had no reception. She also texted saying "I will keep calling until you pick up". We got back to our room and as soon as we stepped in, the room phone started ringing (someone was on the look out). My wife picked up the phone and got yelled at by Lesley that we should have parked the other way. She said, and I quote "I need you to park that way RIGHT NOW". Parking direction may be the most important thing in her life, but she really has no right to disrespect customers for something so minor. She may not be happy with where she is in life, or may be having a bad day; but again, that is no excuse to treat customers the way she did. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless you are a fan of getting poor attitude while...
Read moreVisiting from the UK we stayed 3 nights at the Sea Rock Inn in August 2018. We had one of the smaller accommodations - Cottage 3. Although we were a little unlucky with the weather, we enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage was very comfortable and cosy and we were welcomed with a complimentary half-bottle of a very pleasant local wine. The facilities in the room were very good and despite the chilly weather we made good use of the lovely small deck with its wonderful views over the Pacific. I would liked to have seen a small fridge in the cottage but apparently this and Cottage 4 are the only ones without a fridge.
One of the highlights for me was the lovely breakfast spread - possibly the best breakfast I have had when visiting the States. A hot option is provided and a great selection of cereals, toast & preserves, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juice, hot beverages etc. Gluten free guests like myself are very well catered for too. On breakfast and reception duty for our stay was the delightful Michelle. Very friendly and helpful and an oracle of local information.
The Sea Rock Inn is a 5 -10 minute walk from the town of Mendecino or a 2 minute drive. Lots of things to visit locally, especially for those who like the outdoors - highly recommend Russian Gulch, Mendecino Headland and Big River Beach. Local restaurants are OK but can be very expensive. We used the excellent Harvest supermarket for much of our food needs.
The Sea Rock is quite pricey and it won't be for those on a budget, but if you want to treat yourself or are looking for higher end accommodation with plenty of comfort and excellent service with a smile then I can highly recommend...
Read moreThe return to our Mendocino "home" in September was as memorable as our visit in May this year (and really every year), but made even more special by the attention of Sea Rock staff. In particular we want to express our thanks to the gracious and attentive welcome by Sadie, the warm expressive hello each visit by Lilah, the enthusiasm of Vi smiling as she ran the breakfast trays to each cottage, and the chats with Leslie about local recommendations as we grabbed brownies at the front desk each afternoon. We will NEVER forget the first evening (after a long drive) relaxed on our deck, enjoying the specially-made and delicious charcuterie box while listening to the ocean waves hit the shore and watching the sun set over the horizon. Wow!
In addition below we are adding our May visit review as it reflects exactly our sentiment in this recent visit.
"Years ago we found the most beautiful and relaxing home away from home here at the Sea Rock Inn in Mendocino. It continues to be a wonderful discovery. The spectacular ocean view, the manicured and colorful property, the individual cottages with front deck to enjoy the delicious and diverse breakfast menu, and to just simply sit and absorb the view! Those are the tangible wonders. Top that with a management and staff who obviously care about providing the best experience and are gracious and attentive to every need. This has not changed over the years. Oh, and let's not forget the welcoming brownies!"
Thank you Susie and staff for making everything about our visits...
