This is such a beautiful place! When you're here it's like the fresh ocean air heals your soul. It's refreshing and you feel like you can breathe again. We love coming here every year to get away from the summer heat. There are different places to wander around and you can get some lovely pictures as well :) It's very peaceful even though there is sometimes quite a few different people walking around, everyone is very respectful, nobody is loud or anything. I believe there's a bathroom on this site too, to the north side of the park. It's quite a bit cleaner than the one on the south side of town. That other bathroom is nearly constantly busy so we go to this other one when we can. Sometimes when there's not a lot of people around, you can close your eyes and nap for a little bit. There's also a little tree grove area out looking the seaside cliffs and it's a cool place to take pictures. There grove area is pretty cool too because the trees make a little circle around an area with a picnic table. Overall it's a nice...
Read moreThis review is overdue since we have been here several times over the last decade and I'm not sure why I haven't written a review before now, as this is such a beautiful and tranquil place.
Mendocino Headlands State Park is conveniently located near the downtown area in Mendocino. It's absolutely gorgeous with lots of trails along the rugged coastline. Some of the trails lead down to secluded beaches. There are plenty of trails all along the coastline and you can walk/hike as little or as much as you would like to. You can take your pup on a leash here since furry friends love this place as well!
The views are spectacular, especially at sunset. Whatever time of day you go, the views are beathtaking and you can find a nice secluded place and have a picnic if you would like as well.
This is a very peaceful area that you can spend hours at. I also love that you can enjoy the restaurants and shops in the downtown area for some retail therapy and delicious food and then venture out on the trails to soak up nature...
Read moreA magnificent spot. Mendocino Headlands State Park is one of my favorite places. The whole coast in the area is gorgeous, but this location especially so. Depending on the weather, you may or may not want to walk from Mendocino town - the wind can get very blustery in the winter. Sunsets are an obvious time to go, the peace that settles in with the twilight is magical. The sea here, however, is always active, churning away down below these raised rocks. Be careful here as not all places where you could fall have a fence. This is a wild place, and the roar of the ocean can be intense. And this goes without saying, but as someone who was privileged to spend a lot of time here I’ll say it anyway - keep it just as nice as you found it, if not more so - no litter, no tramping on the native plants. We each receive a priceless gift when we come to a place like this, let’s pass it on to others...
