So first of all this is the first review I've ever posted. I've been in the hospitality industry for almost two decades. Let me start by laying out the facts. We (my boyfriend and and I ) are and have been traveling companions for well over two years. We are waiting for our new home to be available on October 1st. In the mean time we have been staying at hotels and motels. Nothing compared to his international travels. ( documentary film maker) Anyway as usual, we reserved a room in advance. This was a three night stay at TRYP by wyndom. We called our cab and headed from Pompano to Ft. Lauderdale. 32$ dollar trip. Tipped 6$ and made it an even 40. Walked up to the desk, handed over my State issued ID and the card we booked thes room with. TRYP front desk employee asked how my day was. I replied " It's going " She enjoyed that and Let me know she also referers to certain days as " Going" Anyway, so sad few minutes later she informs me, the original card and my ID aren't enough. She asks me for a card with a " chip". I informed her we don't have a card with a chip. She apologizes and explained "the system won't allow her to process our reservation without a card, with a chip. Long story short, here I was with 3 bags and my boyfriend with his 3. ( waiting for our place to open) after dropping 40$ on a cab and being told we can't stay here at TRYP because we didn't have a card with a chip. I politely laughed and understood ( or tried to) where the front desk employee was coming from. " Protocol, policy " Okay. I get that. You don't own the place and can only do so much. Devastated and Exsaughsted, I suggested checking us in for two nights instead of three. Take the remaining $ for a deposit. She said " Nope" I offered cash. She replies "sorry can't" I offered to have our parents call them and pay with their "chip" Card over the phone. "Nope" Repeatedly said from the front desk employee. ( if you are a Wyndham employee yourself you may be cheering her on and appreciating how she remains stuck on the policy with firm replies) my boyfriend hit it in the head when he said something along the lines of " If they want a certain clientale they should cater to that instead of offering nights under 55$ online" I realized I basically spent our last dollar we had to arrive at a hotel we paid for that was telling me our money was no good . At some point before we left I asked the front desk employee, " You aren't chaeing us, eight"? "No" She responded. " Of coarse not" They "apologized" For the inconvenience. Again I tried to use the english language to explain How we had no where else go and was willing to try and work through this situation. How we wanted to work with them, however we could, to get to our room and lay down. They did not care at all. They were the opposite of hospital. Shamed us. Informed us how they were only asking for 50$ deposit and how awesome and kind that was of them. Just simply transfer funds to a card with a chip and hand it to us they said. How they were doing us a favor. So, anyways.. .. While sitting in the corner of their parking lot and being stared at like a freak show by the employees., I got a LYFT for my boyfriend, myself and our 6 bags back to the area we came from. To a hotel I again made a reservation with. I again had a confirmation number with. We lucked out. They let us in our room. We passed out for hours. I woke up to the current hotel asking us if we could provide a card to pay as the card on file was declined. .. Lol Have to laugh at this point. So after communicating with our current property management( who thank GOD let us lay down a bit) I'm realizing our cars isn't working. Makes no since right? The Wyndom told me to my face they were not charging us. Well, I call my back and the money is GONE! TRYP by Wyndham stole it. I booked both these reservations through Orbitz. So got in the phone ( cause that's was actually super exciting pass time! ) Long story ( already short) TRYP by Wyndom...
Read moreMy friend and I reserved a room through Booking.com for the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel In Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We reserved our room 3 weeks in advance and felt confident that we'd chose the right hotel for us as it seemed to have everything we wanted for our getaway. The day before our departure, we received an email from Booking.com stating that the hotel wanted us to pay for our first night's stay as it was Spring Break and they were booking up and wanted to make sure that the room wasn't canceled and to ensure it wasn't, we had to submit payment. We both found this extremely concerning as we weren't to check-in until March 20th and didn't feel that it was fair to pay for something we haven't even utilized yet. I called and spoke to several people from teh hotel (2 of which were very rude) and expressed my disdain for this new information. I was told that because it was Spring Break and was a busy time that the hotel reserves the right to do this to ensure they aren't at a lose for rooms that aren't used. After speaking to the Sales Manager and expressing my frustrations, he explained that this was something they could do and if not done, we ran the risk of losing out room. I let him know in no uncertain terms, that this was horrible business and that as guests, we didn't invent Spring Break and shouldn't be forced to pay ahead for something we haven't had the opportunity to use. At the risk of losing our room we researched so aggresively for weeks ahead of time, we went ahead and paid for the first night. We'd reserved a room with a balcony specifically because we wanted to be able to sit out and chill in the evenings. Upon arriving at check-in, we were told that the room we reserved 3 weeks prior wasn't available, but that we had a regular room available to us. We were LIVID. We were told that Booking.com made a mistake at doing this and that they were sorry. For us, especially since we'd already paid for the first night and hadn't even stayed yet, sorry was ineffective. The manager stated that she could take off 15% of our stay and I stated to her that wasn't good enough. After going back and forth with her, she told us that she would take off 15% of the first night andn upon someone checking out, have the room cleaned and us placed into the balcony room we originally reserved. My friend and I agreed and moved forward with our stay. Once we got our balcony room, it was clear that the cleaning was subpar at best. The blinds that lifted up to open the balcony door were ripped on both sides and it was hard to open the door, the bathroom sink was clogged and the water took forever to go down, the people below us smoked coupious amounts of weed that when we did open the balcony door, we were high off contact and when asking the fron desk for extra washclothes, we were told that there were no washclothes and were given hand towels to use instead. For a hotel, the ONE thing that they're supposed to have a surplus of is washclothes and towels!! The expectaions I had for this hotel was completely diminished day one. I will not be booking here or any of Wyndham's subsidaries and will be making sure that everyone I know...
Read moreI always enjoyed staying at these fine establishments around the world, for me the name TRYP goes a long way when it comes to quality, cleanliness and professionalism. Unfortunately I didn't experience that, when i stayed at the TRYP hotel at the Fort Lauderdale "branch" if you may call it so. My journey led me to yet another hotel for an undisclosed amount of time as its a norm for someone in my profession "aviation". I was saluted and happily greeted by the security guard on duty, I entered the lobby area and was promptly checked in and fed all the answers to my questions. I ushered my way to the room to answer emails and work related calls. After about 2 hours I decided to grab a quick drink and dinner from the indoor restaurant. I seated myself to the edge of the bar area to be noticed easily yet leave open seats for other coupling customers, I waited quite a few before I was given any attention by the later to be obnoxious bartender. I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first because I came in on the phone and thought she was being polite, I placed my order for dinner and drinks and went back to answering emails from my phone, time elasped "2 hours" and dinner was devoured and I was 3 drinks in, I was on a call with the misses when the bartender came over seemingly annoyed while packing away drinks, bottles were hitting each other rather aggressively, and i said to my lady on the phone" hmm my bartender seems a bit grouchy tonight" and tried to explain to my misses when I was glared at by the bartender who then asked me what I said to her. My answer was" I'm on a call, i wasn't speaking to you" and her response was " you said bartender so what did you say" it took me a second to answer since i was astonished she had the audacity to asked me what i was saying on my personal phone call conversation. Nevertheless i told her what i said and she then made me 1 more drink and said "I'm cutting you off because i don't feel comfortable with you here!" I asked her to repeat that just to confirm, she repeated and it was clear. I was being placed on time out.. i decided to meet her demands as I'm a largely built guy and i can see myself drinking or not being an intimidating individual. Besides all of that escaped i spoke to a manager on shift as i felt i was unfairly targeted for whatever personal reasons even much so while having a private conversation. With all that said, I'm not asking for repercussions to be swiftly handed down in either way, be it towards her or myself but a brief eye opener of how things can get out of hand rather quickly and unnecessarily, it's true when they say " there's a first time for everything". I'm a rather quiet secluded individual that shys away from issues and have never had any issues in my 14 years of travelling this beautiful world. I completely understand the concept of always smiling to make a difference in someone else's life and to you miss bartender grouchy or obnoxious, That's why i smiled paid my bill and left. Remember life is a revolving door and it...
