My husband and I paid for a night at University Square Hotel, but we left before sundown (something we’ve never done before) because we didn’t feel safe for ourselves, or safe to leave our car in their parking lot.||||The property itself is an older hotel, built in the 80’s and in need of renovation. That is fine, as we expected not the best condition given the low price. The rooms are large, and it seems like it was probably a perfectly nice place years ago. The biggest problem is the very sketchy tenants who seem (judging from a conversation b/w a tenant and the housekeeping staff) to be living there. We should have worried when we had to sign a waiver stating that no “drugs, including marijuana, illegal activities, domestic violence or pets” would be allowed. Never seen that before. Also, they required a $100 “room security deposit” in addition to the hotel rental fee. The hallways and elevator smelled strongly of weed. The floors etc were very dirty and the place was generally beaten up. Inside the door of our building was a large hand written sign warning that any residents who propped the self locking door open would be required to leave, along with their guests. Every time we went thru the door we noticed that the corner of the rug was pushed up into the door frame, which prevented the door from closing all the way (and locking). ||||I am sorry if this sounds snobby, but the only other guests we saw looked like they had recently been living on the street. The car next to ours in the parking lot was in such bad shape - it really looked like it should be in a junk yard. We saw a couple of people circling the building on skateboards and checking the door (the one that isn’t supposed to be propped open). Not sure what was up with that but it didn’t give us a good feeling.||||The air conditioning does not work well, and our room never got below 78 degrees. We asked at the desk about the A/C and they guy said it was because the thermostat was controlled by motion sensor. Not sure what happens when you go to sleep. Does the A/C just turn off?||||The photos on their website must be a number of years old. If we had known what it was really like we never would have made a reservation. We ended up deciding to just move and pay for a different hotel rather than risk our car in the parking lot and ourselves in the room - didn’t think we would be able to...
Read moreI completely agree with Vanessa! At first glance the room was huge and seemed clean. I also had something taken from my room. I left the do not disturb sign on the door and both days someone came in. I had a hair product taken that was about a $30 value. I waited to put up my post because I wanted to make sure I did not forget it at home but a week later I cannot find it.
Parking is horrible. They act like the gate will keep your car safer but anyone can get in and the spots are small just causing chaos with all the large work trucks
The people at the front desk were nice but scetchy people out at night. 4 am in the morning all the construction workers are getting up to take showers and the fans in the restroom are loud. This means they badly need cleaned and you get woke up.
Breakfast is powdered eggs and undercooked real potatoes with English muffins. I would rather cheep waffle batter and some irons to cook it in.
My key card deactivated 4 times during my 3 day stay. All times I kept it from my phones, other electronics and other cards. One night I had to go to the office 2 times and it is a long walk if none of your keys are walking. In fact you can't even get to the office on foot if you went into the gated section. This means you have to go back to your car and drive up.
Most of the screen doors on the patio rooms were falling off
Also the bed was horrible. It literally bowed in the middle and had very hard edges.
The room looked clean until after a shower I used the foot towel to clean up some water and it came up black.
And finally the staff tried to come in my room before I had checked out. I was in the shower so didn't hear them knock. Luckily I had but the interior lock in place or they would have come in
The only good things were it is a giant room. So if you want dirt cheep and room for a blowup mattress you can set it up. Also the shower head was good and the toilet flushed. However it usually stuck causing me to go back in to stop the water...
Read moreThe only reason I came down to this dump of a city was my daughter was running in state cross-country. I booked the room last minute. I saw that it was cheap, and it was rated as a 3 stars hotel. I don't know how the hell it was raided 3 stars. So I didn't even bother to go read the reviews. I called the hotel and they wouldn't take my reservation. They forced me to go online and make a reservation. What, are their staff incompetent? They can't make the reservations, but online on their website says call to reserve. I check-in late and was told the elevators were broke, and you got reviews saying they were broke 5 months ago. Wow. You have to take the stairs. I finally get to my building and the security swipe lock on the door to go into the building was missing, so the door was not secured. As soon as I walk in the door it smells like weed. I went up the stairway and the stairways were filthy, stained, cobwebs, looked like they've never been cleaned. I walk in the room and the ceiling's got stains on them. The bathtub's got mold in the groundlines, and cocking. The floors are wavy uneven, and I tell my boy to go online and look at the reviews, and everything they talk about in those reviews, are true. Bugs, the rooms are disgusting, and oh yeah, I got woke up at 4 o'clock in the morning. Some room playing their music, trying to gang bang or whatever, loud as hell for hours. I read in some reviews refrigerator. There was no refrigerator in the room and they didn't say anything about a continental breakfast. Everything about this hotel is a lie. I'd add photos, but there's plenty of photos that do this place justice. It's just torn down, ratty, and $60 a night for what you get is too expensive. Also, the ice bucket had never been cleaned out, had mold in it. Normally, I don't care to waste my time and leave reviews, but dann, this place is something else. Now, I know what it's like to live under...
