I have stayed at the Best Western in Galt around a dozen times a year in the last several years and consider it a good value for the money. It's clean, comfortable, offers a hot breakfast (although the scrambled eggs are barely edible - taste like reconstituted powdered eggs), and the equipment in the rooms usually works. But the TV wasn't working the last time I was there and I had to be transferred to another room, which cost me an hour of sleep. But the satellite service offers MSNBC, which is a rarity in the Central Valley of CA. The service could be friendlier- the managers try to help but the desk clerks are indifferent. There is no elevator, and if you want a 1st floor room you have to call, because the hotel does not receive online requests and the staff lacks the common sense to realize that somebody requesting the senior rate might have an issue with stairs. The biggest problem for me is the cramped parking. It's a hotel, not a motel, and access to the rooms is indoors, so parking is distant from the rooms. And there is no parking for full size pickup trucks especially long bed crew cabs, much less larger trucks. The spaces are too small and the turning radius required to get into them is way too small. The parking situation was always bad but is currently worse (as of summer, 2018) because construction of additional rooms has gobbled up some of the parking, and the only new parking that may be added will still not accommodate trucks. Not so much because of the hotel (although it was clean with a decent hot breakfast variety) but because of the staff (blonde lady that made breakfast/laundromat) and specifically Ruben from front desk. He turned our complete experience around. When we arrived on 07/09 in the evening, there was another gentleman that never mentioned that we had to go to the front desk and specifically request room service (which I found odd because in other hotels it’s automatically assumed unless you state you don’t want it with the door sign) ni was he interactive with explaining anything about the hotel and seemed irritated that we were asking question such as what time did the pool close, and what time did breakfast begin. When we arrived to the hotel the next night, exhausted from our day, we were beyond disappointed to enter our room just to see that the bed and room was in the same condition as when we left, not even clean towels had been placed nor offered. I proceeded to the front desk to rant (with ruben) about the condition of the room and his response was not only professional but humane. He took care of us by not focusing on our negative experience but on trying to find a way from that moment forward on how to make it positive and enjoyable. Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. Checked in on Saturday, out the next day. They are remodeling so construction junk everywhere. Placed looked like an absolute dump. Only choose the hotel because we were visiting friends and being 9 and a half months pregnant, did not want to make the long 2 hour drive back. Upon getting into our room, we tried to get the circulation going but could not get the a/c to turn on. Called the front desk and Paul asked if he could come by to take a look. He messed around with it for about 10 minutes but could not get it to turn on either. His maintenance person was unavailable. So here we were, stuck with the last room available and no a/c, no air flow. He told us he would refund the room but we went through a third-party so he had no control of it. I specifically asked if he would refund even if we stayed the night and he said yes because of the lack of a/c. So I contacted the third--party and they initiated a refund request. Of course Paul then denies ever telling me and my boyfriend that he would refund, completely lying to all involved. I am disappointed that I had to suffer through the night with lack of airflow being 9 and a half months pregnant and that one could have no remorse for someone in my state.
