Location location Location. This place is in a great place in town. Close to everything convenient. Pawley’s island is incredible. This property is very nice. The property is old and is a bit tired. It does need updating, but it appears they are working on that. It appears some rooms are privately owned and some owned by a managing firm (not sure). Not sure how that part works out when the public stays in rooms. We ate at the Tide beach bar downstairs, it really needs some renovations. We did not eat at the upstairs restaurant. The only thing that would have made our room even more amazing, would have been this. Pawley’s island is the capital for having the best hammocks in the US. This place should have a Hammock hung on every downstairs patio. The Hammock shop and The Litchfield Inn, could cross promote one another; with the Hammock shop providing the Inn with the hammocks, and In Kind the inn would place a picture on the wall out in the patio, telling the guests where they can get this great hammock in town to take home. If there was a hammock in the porch area, I would have probably slept out there all night long…lol. We put out our do not disturb sign on our door all week. We try to be as ecologically supportive as possible when we travel to save water, by using towels more than once, and not having the sheets changed every day. BAD NOTE: It still would have been nice to have had someone come by to check if we needed anything. (Toilet paper, extra towels, etc). We did not see a housekeeping person all week long. We dumped our own trash all week long. We had a king bed, very comfortable, crisp sheets, lots of pillows. Furniture was great. Nice colors. Shower was good, water pressure could have been better. Cool bathroom mirror! BAD NOTE: HVAC in room did not work. Fortunately temps outside allowed us to not have to have it looked at or to be moved. Pool area is nice. Too windy to swim, but it looked great. We booked our trip through hotel.com. I am not sure we got the best rates, but they seemed ok to me. Not sure if I would have got a better rate booking direct. I am a disabled veteran, and not sure if they give a vet discount or not. We would come back here to stay. Would book a bigger room if we could get it. We did get invited on our last day on the island to stay at Litchfield by the sea for a week, which we may try that on our next visit.

My wife and I booked a suite at Pawleys Island plantation. (Which is owned/operated by the same company). The day of our stay we received a promotional call from the staff about partaking in an hour long event, and receive a $100 credit to the restaurant, and the same amount off for the week stay. At that time we found out we need to check in at oceanfront Litchfield resort first before going down to our room at Pawleys Island. When checking in there was an other customer calling with issues in there room, which seemed like to be the TV not working (looks to be a common based off the reviews). So we get our keys and then told we have to still drive another 7 miles to the room. We drive down to our building which looked nice outside, right on the golf course. We go into our room and we see 2 dead cockroach on the floor and the room was nothing like what was presented on their website. We call the front desk and they offered a suite in one of their high end building. We accepted and drove 7 miles back, grabbed our room keys and then went to grab some food after our long drive. The food was not worth the cost, and the restaurant was very outdated. The base board was once white, the floors coming apart in places, the tables were being supported with sugar packets, napkins or Styrofoam cups under the legs to level/stop rocking the table. We head up to our room to shower and call it a night, upon getting to our room we see another small cockroach run across the floor into a gap in the baseboards, a few other things we noticed was another persons hair, and black dots on the bed sheets, hair in the shower, one of the head board was not attached to the bed, tv was from the early 2000s with broken remote, ceiling fans were sagging from age/moisture and full of dust... I could go on. We called back up and demanded a full refund, which we were able to receive. We left the hotel almost at 10pm to find another hotel. When looking for a new place to stay we saw the same hotel we just left and the photos they show for the second room we received was nothing like the room we got. The post showed nice new furniture, nice big screen TV, remodeled bathroom, and nice beds, Etc. This hotel is a bait and switch, and I would avoid.

For years we have come here either in the Fall or Spring, or both, drawn by the location on the beach, the reasonable rates, and the quite comfortable rooms in "The Dunes" owned by individuals and managed by the hotel. We had become used to the fact that the hotel couldn't guarantee the specific room when we made a reservation, but would make a note on our file and always worked out something to place us in one of the nicer renovated privately owned rooms. This trip was so bad that it is our last. The staff always had that "local" feel- friendly, helpful, always busy, but tried to make the experience a good one. Oh, how times have changed! It started before we even arrived. We called one day ahead to make sure that the beach chairs and umbrella service was still operating so that we didn't need to pack them and bring them. We were assured it was still in operation. Of course, when we got there it wasn't. The desk manager said that it stops October 1, everybody there knew that, and nobody would have given us incorrect info. This delivered in that "you're so stupid" tone of voice. She went on to tell me that they just managed the rooms, had no idea of the maintenance of the remodel, and that we were basically lucky to get whatever room we got. Of course, when we checked in the room was the least clean of any visit, and smelled of mold. We had to basically dismantle the front of the AC unit and clean it ourselves. The restaurant was not open for breakfast on site, but we did get a coupon for a breakfast buffet at a location a mile away. There was no cleaning service for the rooms, but you could call and swap towels and have the trash emptied. For that, we were charged a "Guest Housekeeping Fee" EVERY DAY of $16.00, plus a Destination Fee of $1, and "Resort Fee" of $15. Perhaps that last fee got you internet, but it definitely did not get you anything else. Again, the restaurant kitchen was closed for renovation, and the bar is not open Sundays and Mondays. Even typing the word "housekeeping" now makes me mad. What a joke! I'm sorry, Oceanfront Litchfield Inn, after all these years, it's time we broke up. So sorry you have let this property devolve to where it is.

My family and friends have loved vacationing for a full week at Litchfield Inn for many years. We even book our time shortly after the new year to insure we have the type of room we prefer. Until this year (2023) I have given it a great review. Now, I am saddened to say that I doubt we will return. The positives do remain. You cannot beat the beautiful oceanfront location, great food, bar and service at the Cabana Café, in an awesome beach community. The staff and front desk attendants are very courteous and try to be helpful. Given the apparent new management and cost, we figured there had been exciting upgrades. However, the prices have gone up and the upgrades and amenities have gone way down. In a VERY brief review compared to the actual details, this was our experience in the first week of July: Our room was adequately clean and beds relatively comfortable. But given the almost double prices to stay in a single room that is roughly updated with painted paneling on the walls, old carpet on the floor & cracked, dirty tile should not be considered acceptable. There is still only a miniature fridge in most rooms. The inadequate ice machine (still only one on each side of the building) for the number of rooms offered, rarely has ice. Breakfast now has little variety. Housekeeping must be requested by 10:00 AM and if not, we had one little broom (that had seen its better day). You had to often make several trips a day to guest services for towels, trash bags and other items because they were always out on the first and second attempt. They did (once) offer to bring them to our room. One of the beds was broken upon arrival and we had to vacate the room while they tore it apart to fix it. Glad they could because the front desk’s first response was, “well we do not have anywhere else to put you”! Also, I can appreciate trying to keep “unwanted guests” whereby they require you to ALWAYS wear the colored bracelets. But it gets a bit much with constant questioning of the staff when you are simply going back and forth to your room just from the beach (not occupying the pool area) and forget to carry it. Even with your room key in hand. Mid-week I also INQUIRED about an additional night (at $695-No thanks!) that ended up added to my room without my permission. Glad something told me to check the next day! Also, no apology, no sensible or professional explanation for the over $200 charge to my CC the day AFTER I arrived home (without my knowledge or permission). When I called it was explained as “GUEST SERVICES” charge error and it should have been done at check in. If you send a confirmation and bill for the balance a few days before check-in and make that charge on the first day, that is what you should honor! I was absolutely dumbfounded to say the least. No, these things didn’t spoil our week overall. It is not even completely about money, but standards! Be what you advertise! Having many friends who share our love for Litchfield Inn revealing over the last few weeks the same issues and disappointment, my hope is at least these things are considered when the powers that be work on improvements going forward so we will all want...

We stayed with a group and had a great time!

I am not fussy and believe reviews should be known as opinions because everyone has one and they can be very different... But this is mine.

The reservation process with Victoria was very simple and we got exactly what we asked for. With two hurricanes at sea the day before we were scheduled to arrive I was very surprised and pleased how accommodating they were with our change requests.

When we arrived we were greeted by two employees who were obviously genuinely happy with helping us. I wish I had asked the man's name that checked us in because he was wonderful and reviewed everything with me. He is a true asset to the resort!

It is literally located on the beach and you can't get better than that. The fact it is an older building adds to its charm & character. It has the Mom & Pop feel is why I liked it over a brand new high rise resort. It's totally I am at the beach so no worries life can be simple vibe. The grounds landscape and layout is beautiful.

Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The sliding glass door onto the pool deck made it seem larger. The beds were big enough and comfortable. I liked that there was no carpet and appreciated the walk in shower. We did not need the air conditioner and enjoyed keeping the slider open to hear and smell the ocean. I'd probably prefer a screen had it been summer. When you walk out the slider onto the pool deck the Ocean was to our left, the pool straight ahead and outside eating/gathering areas to our right with plenty of seating & laying options everywhere around the deck.

There was parking outside our main entry door into the unit which made it nice but there is plenty of parking across the street as well. There were no drifters or people hanging around like in resort areas probably thanks to its remote location.

The pool was very clean and well maintained. I would suggest more lighting under the balcony area and perhaps a strip of paint marking the step down. Our group did utilize that area to gather and socialize and it was hard at nighttime for card playing and such.

I believer the 3 rooms my group had in that area and one privately owned unit (whose owners were super nice, friendly & funny) were the only people staying in this section so we probably did not need to be informed to be mindful that quiet hour was at 10pm by a man emptying the trash at 930pm. We figured he probably had a bad day or needed to feel in charge.

There was not daily housekeeping but they were around to take trash and swap towels or other items we needed. I actually prefer this because I am the type to feel the need to straighten up our room before they come in to clean my room. There was a hairdryer, ironing board, broom and dustpan if needed for the sand but your at the beach and don't need those things.

So if you are a laid back in on vacation cuz its Five O'Clock Somewhere or Beach Hair I Don't Care type of person The Litchfield Inn should be perfect for you. If you want a people packed fancy resort place then maybe not so much.

Hopefully we will be able to visit again because we love the simple life beach feel you can expect at The...

I want to comment on some other reviews and give my viewpoint. I stayed in Tower room 530 for 4 nights, in May. It is true that there are lots of fees. All fees are listed on the website. Most places I looked at had lots of resort fees, etc., tacked on, so I was not surprised at the final price, as I did lots of careful looking and asked questions before I booked. I didn't compare prices- I wanted the oceanfront balcony, which was wonderful and mostly in the shade all day. |Things I loved- coffee on my oceanfront balcony in the morning, the nice bed, the fridge and microwave, the GREAT A/C which let me keep the room cold, the great ceiling fan, and the huge beach with a big swath that was compressed soft sand and very easy to walk on. The two dead jellyfish I saw during my stay were interesting to look at. The little shells that burrowed into the sand were so cute! The beach is endless and it was not overly crowded. In the mornings, it was almost empty. We liked the good singer they had playing on the deck one evening. He was by one pool, and lots of people were there listening to him, and we were at the other pool, where the volume was a bit less. There were several outdoor dining tables on the patio next to the pool bar/restaurant, with ocean view, and the service was good. And the food was good. No one mentioned anything about timeshares. I mostly used the stairs, but the elevator in the tower seemed fine to me. I put the do not disturb sign on my door and when I needed more TP, I went to the front desk and got it right away. |The buffet breakfast was steaming hot- served in covered heated dishes. I loved having scrambled eggs, potatoes, grits and cheese for breakfast. They also had sausage and bacon, breads you could toast, fresh fruit, including bananas, muffins, donuts, PB and jelly and honey and juice and coffee (ours was served in a pot at our table). The servers were fine and very friendly. |Things I noticed but didn't mind- The shower spray was not SUPER strong, the stairwell needed sweeping, TP was thin, floors were a tiny bit sandy, but this is usually the case with oceanfront rooms. I wore socks in the room if it bothered me, or put towels on the floors as bathmats. |We brought our own beverages in water bottles, to drink while poolside. They didn't care. We moved the pool chairs away from where they had been placed so we'd be in the shade, and that was fine. I was happy to see some staff members enjoying drinks poolside when they were done for the day- they were all so nice. |If you are wanting a fancy place with turndown service and a chocolate on the pillow, this in not the place for you. For me, it was a relaxing place with...
