SHORT VERSION --|The place was GREAT - the people were GREAT - the Saturday breakfast was GREAT.|Feel free to read on if you like.|I was raised in town but my grandparents had a fair sized farm I visited often.|My wife grew up on a farm in rural NC. Her family also raised horses and cattle. For most of our 40+ years if marriage we had lived the city life in Fort Worth. Life had been pretty crazy last year and we both needed to get away.|I discovered this former working farm turned Inn online. That intrigued me.|THEN I found out -- they were far enough out of town there was no traffic noise AND they had live farm animals on the premises -- I was SOLD - this was to be my gift to her for all she had done for me.|I spoke at length on the phone and later in person with the management -- and could NOT have been MORE IMPRESSED. These were MY kind of folks. They were extremely helpful both before and during our stay.|The trip out was wonderful in itself. GOD has CREATED some BEAUTIFUL places on this earth -- in this great country -and in my adopted home state of Texas.|But among His marvels -- I have to say the countryside in the Texas Hill Country ranks right up at there.|The CWI offers some rather secluded options for those who want private alone time. But we chose the former foreman's quarters, turned hay barn, turned cottage called the Carriage House. |The REASON --|The Carriage House sits DIRECTLY BETWEEN two corrals.|Horses (among other animals) out front and a llama out back. SHE WAS IN HEAVEN. It was so good to see her relax and smile as she petted and fed the horses and the goats and rabbits et al. She was back in her element. And even this city boy felt like a heavy blanket had been lifted.|OK -- if you insist on me finding a negative --- The ONLY disappointment was that we had hoped to sit quietly alone at the fire pit. BUT because of the location we chose -- the firepit was 'communal' with folks staying in the house across the street and was being enjoyed by some (fortunately very well behaved: youngsters.|The Saturday breakfast in the barn was an experience in itself. We met some folks who were in town to compete in a major horse show event in town. Had a great time visiting with them |I could go on about the Paluxy river that flowed nearby and the charming town of Glen Rose = but I think you get the point.|IF you have fond memories of being raised in the country -- or maybe you just wish you did --- or if you just need to get away - alone or with a loved one and spend some relaxed time focusing on the Lord and eachother and His grace in your life --WELL -- there MAY be other good places to go for that --- but none...

Read moreI had preciously been at Country Woods Inn with Pampa Class ‘52 friends many years ago and was determined to celebrate my 90 Orbit's with my family - especially since the family would have the houses while I “Live My Dream In an Airstream” - perfect for G’ma (me)! Ages attending ranged from 9 months to 90 years as Country Woods Inn has something for everyone - from best breakfast in The Barn which is an activity in itself! Lettuce and carrots are given to the younger ones to feed rabbits, donkey, horses, lamas, pig - so much fun since most of my grand and great grandchildren are city slickers. Some of my granddaughters stayed in Railroad car, my brother and his partner loved staying in the Cabin with the most adorable house cat and one of the larger families picked the Main House as it became the meeting place with large large dining room table for meals and visiting as large living room opened to dining room with all the fixings in the kitchen to cook meals - especially breakfast for us. We’re a family that likes to eat together and visit together and even though the houses had kitchens it was more fun being together in the Main House (plus the video monitors worked from close by Prairie House while little ones napped). Country Woods Inn offers a State Park on property and only a few miles away is the famous Dinosaur Valley State Park and drive thru Safari plus Grandbury Lake is close and we enjoyed being on pontoon boats and hanging out in the water one afternoon. We picked a 3-day week-end but in leaving we all wished it had...
