Los Primos Méxican Restaurant & Cantina - Glen Rose — Restaurant in Glen Rose

We were just passing through Glen Rose on our road trip and starving, and had a hankerin' for Mexican Food (MF). I use the term "Mexican Food", but I guess what I really mean is Tex-Mex. Anyway, this was one of the higher rated MF places around according to Google, so we said, "What the heck let's do it."

It's a stand-alone restaurant, and not too bad looking as far as affordable MF restaurants go. It looked like you're typical MF restaurant. Not a bad thing, really. Plus, it was fairly clean, well-staffed (sometimes hard to find these days), and the staff was friendly enough. They had a large bar area and ample seating throughout the restaurant. I'm not sure how their adult beverages are because we were traveling with children and did not partake on this day.

So the next thing I know we are seated (no wait on this Labor Day Monday) and have some chips, salsa, queso, and drinks on the table, and I'm not feeling so Hangry anymore. But... I should menton the queso was very mediocre. Actually it was just melted cheese sauce, with nothing else in it. Extremely bland, like Velveeta. Maybe the queso con carne is better?

They had a decent size menu with everything you would expect from your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. We ordered.

Then the main courses arrived rather quickly. I had ordered a standard combo platter with a taco, cheese enchiladas, a tamale, rice and beans... and it was very average Mexican fare. But it was actually better than a very expensive MF restaurant that we ate at on the Riverwalk in San Antonio back in January (it was called "The Original Mexican Food Restaurant" believe it or not... please do NOT go there), but that's not saying much. But still, I expect a bit more flair in the cuisine from a Texas MF restaurant than i experienced here at Los Primos.

All in all, if you're in the need for Mexican food and Los Primos is where you find yourself, just know that you could do a lot worse. But you can also do a lot better! Just maybe not in Glen...

My family and I stopped by this place assuming it was good and being attempting to decrease our hunger. When we went in to be seated no one was really there so we were able to sit 6 people easy. That should have been the first sign to run away. It took time for our waitress to come. But she was nice and polite during the entire time and seemed to be the only person working in the place that had 5-10 other workers doing nothing but standing around. Now the food was horrible. There’s just no niceness about it except it was hot. My niece ordered the tortilla soup and it tasted like grease from the chicken and water. So we sent it back hoping for something with more flavor. So you can’t go wrong with tacos and that’s what she ended up eating. The crazy part was that the manager came to the table to see what was wrong. And my mother in the best way she could said the soup had no flavor. And the manager said that they never had anyone complain about the food and it gets sold out. We all were amazed with that statement alone. The attitude she had was ok. Since we were visiting, we were trying to tell her that the food was nasty. Now please don’t get me wrong, I ate most of the food, and I promise you there will not be another visit to this place unless I just want to get drunk and go home. Because it has been a full 24 hours and my stomach will not let me forget the food I ate there. I don’t know what kind of queso they are making but that ain’t cheese. I never had water down chili sauce but they did that. I can only appreciate the restaurant being open in our time of hunger. But I would drive another hour somewhere else before stopping at this...

WARNING IF YOU'RE GROSSED OUT EASILY SKIP MY REVIEW LOTS OF TALK ABOUT ROACHES

We came in from out of town, and come here every time we visit Glen Rose, it's usually AMAZING which is why we keep coming back!! We always have a large group, somewhere around 20 of us were there Friday night. Drinks were okayish, the mix/alcohol ratio for the margaritas/rox was definitely off, too much mix and not enough liquor tasted like we almost just had straight mix! Food..... great quantity,almost too much, but according to my family quality was skimming by!! I wound up being entirely too disgusted to eat!! Our server was doing her absolute best to keep up with everything! We can't say anything bad about her!!! Our biggest problem is your ROACHES!!! SO MANY ROACHES!!!! They were EVERYWHERE in the dining room meaning they're PROBABLY in the KITCHEN as well, I didn't eat once I looked down and noticed the 1st one! Then I started paying attention and realized they were EVERYWHERE!!! In the bathroom, crawling on the floors under the tables, and then we saw them crawling up some chairs on our way out. Not sure if we will be back again, it's depending on if y'all get a PEST CONTROL COMPANY out or not! Look, YES pest control companies can be expensive, but LOSING customers is gonna be MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE!! PLEASE do something about the ROACHES so we have a decent place to eat when we come out again in a couple of months!! PLEASE
