My wife and I recently chose the Holiday Inn Express in Gloucester, Virginia, for our holiday stay, arriving on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 26, 2024, around 2:45 pm. Upon checking in, we encountered a delay of about 8 minutes due to the absence of staff at the reception desk. When help finally arrived, we were pleased to receive the two-queen size bed room we requested. However, our excitement diminished once we entered the room on the first floor, which had an unpleasant odor. We discovered a dusty humidifier with a "Change Filter" button illuminated. Given that my wife has asthma and allergies, we opted not to use it, as dirty humidifiers can pose serious health risks, including flu-like symptoms and infections.
In addition, the television was covered in dust, and the bathroom fixtures felt outdated. The shower had three dispensers for soap, shampoo, and conditioner, but they were peeling and in need of maintenance. The bathroom door's hinges were rusty, and there was significant paint chipping at the bottom. My wife found the pillows uncomfortably flat; despite using three, she struggled to get a good night’s sleep.
While walking our small dog in the rear parking lot, we stumbled upon a peculiar site resembling a grave or a small shrine in the woods with Christmas decorations on it. This sight made my wife uneasy about walking alone in the parking lot and even prompted thoughts of checking out early.
At checkout, we faced yet another issue with their computer system, which prevented them from providing a receipt for our room, although ironically, they managed to print a receipt for the pet fee. While the room itself was adequate, these various concerns prevent me from rating this establishment as a...
Read moreThis was a horrible experience! I arrived at Holiday Inn Express Gloucester, Virginia with a reservation to be told they my reservation was canceled. I booked the reservation March 3, 2023 for a April 1, 2023 stay.
Veronica told me the property was completely sold out and there was not one available room. The hotel did not contact me or "Walk" me to another hotel.
Arrived at the hotel after driving hours ready to eat and slumber in order to work an event the next morning. Attempted to check in only to deal with rudeness, untruth and disrespect from Veronica at the Holiday Inn Express.
Veronica called the Police on me because I asked her why she was checking in other guests after she told me that my reservation was canceled. She checked in two guests (two rooms) after telling me that the hotel was sold out and had no rooms available. I witnessed her checking in the guests. One guest walked up to me and said "I am so sorry, wow, you actually had a reservation" I replied, "it's not your fault sir, but thank you".
I've traveled both domestically and internationally for many years and I've never experienced such disgrace, humiliation and disrespect. Had to travel to another city to find another hotel (went into the next morning before I could find accommodations). Slept for approximately three hours. After several hours of sleep, I worked and attend an event. Drove home after the event tired and sleepy. I'm disappointed in the Holiday Inn Express, Gloucester, Virginia.
Due to this experience, I do not recommend the Holiday Inn Express Gloucester, Virginia! Stay away!!!!!!
I do have videos; however, I'm not going to post at this time. I'd like to do things in the...

My experience from this place was overall negative. We were coming in town for a wedding, and needed a place to stay for the night. Veronica from the front desk was very helpful and was able to get our room ready early. This was greatly appreciated because I know they were busy. After staying the night, both my husband and I woke up itching all over. I thought nothing of it, maybe it was just a reaction to something we ate. However, once we got home and took a picture, it was clear to see it was beg bugs. I called the property and they said that my concern was handled and the room was inspected and there was no bed bugs. This was confusing because I had not complained about this as I was not aware till I took the picture. The hotel let me know this is a known complaint and that someone else in the same room had made a complain and that is when there was an inspection! Clearly this place had bed bugs if the same room had 2 separate instances/people calling. The GM was unable to connect with me about my issue. Will update when I hear back from her. Other issues I experienced was stains in the carpet in the room, red stain in corners of tub and the second floor smelled like puke. These issues were address by front desk staff. No other resolution has been...
