This is so heartbreaking for me to write. My family has been coming here since I was a child. I brought 2 of my children and 7 of my grandkids to stay here while we were here for my mom's celebration of life. We drove 9 hours and got here after 4pm. We were told our rooms were not yet ready and probably wouldn't be until 5 or 530pm. They were ready at 515pm. When I went to do my check in, I asked about the hot tubs and was told that they were closed due to COVID. Why are they still being advertised? Also no breakfast, also not disclosed when I made my reservations more than 6 weeks ago. The clerk took approx $15 per room per night for this inconvenience. Upon going in to the entrance, I noticed that the grounds which used to be so very beautiful and well manicured, were now overgrown and disheveled. As a gardner and avid plant lover, this broke my heart. We go to our rooms and were just let down. They say they are renovated, but not a lot done to make me say wow. There were no fans, and no AC. When I asked about fans the next day, I was told that before COVID, all the rooms had fans. During COVID, the hotel was bring renovated and the workers were staying in the rooms. Now they only had about 10 fans and all were in use. So we bought our own. The patio off of our room has grass growing over on to it from the meadow. Cant get WIFI to work out in that area of rooms. The hangers that used to be in the rooms were thrown over the cement wall that lines the walkway to our room. I picked them up and threw them in our trash. The alarm clock that used to be in the room was found thrown over our balcony, into the grassy area. The stairwell to our room has lights that don't work and it's super dark. We asked to have them changed out, but 3 days later, nope, still dark. This is an extreme safety hazard. We had to use our cell phone flash lights just to light our walkway. If one of my children or grandchildren fall down them in the dark on our way back to our room, there will be someone paying us a lot of money. The room that I reserved on their website was the cute little cottages' near the entrance, we were told that these rooms "were not available" once we checked in. While staying here, we noticed what looked like employees to be staying (possibly living) in these cottages. Today my granddaughter spilled something on the bed and we needed new sheets. Since they arent doing any in room service, as long as you are there, we called and asked for new sheets. Nope, they dont have any, because they are short staffed and dont have anyone to wash them, but we could use king size. I had to go to get queen sized sheets from my moms house.
As for the ocean front hot tubs, I walked by them today. The decks are falling apart they are overgrown by trees and look as if they havent been used in years. So, the fact that there is a big sign on the front of the Gold Beach Inn, which is also part of Ireland's Rustic Lodges, advertising oceanfront hot tubs is very misleading and false advertising, due to them being abandoned. The last time we stayed here, the hot tubs and the hot tub deck were absolutely gorgeous, now the hot tubs are empty, dirty, and have no use. It appears that they could not afford the upkeep of the ocean front hot tubes that they still are advertising. This place is advertised as world famous. We would never stay anywhere else in Gold Beach, but now we will no longer support owners who are running this beautiful property into the ground. Yes, they've been bought out folks. Obviously by people who do not care about legacy and tradition. They care about money is all. Not spending it to make improvements and not spending it by cutting corners. I will never stay here again, and hopefully this review turns people away. They only reason for 1 star, the view...
Read moreVery bad experience for my wife and I. Checked into room 214 on Sunday April 8 and noticed a strong coffee odor on the recliner I was sitting in. Stood up and pants and back of shirt wet....someone had spilled coffee on the chair and housekeeping had not cleaned it. Called office and we were offered adjoining room 215. Monday we explored Gold Beach then returned to rm 215 around 5PM and it had not been attended to. Called office and asked for at clean towels which were provided. While retrieving towels from office the lady waiting on my wife asked another employee who was responsible to clean our room. The male employee replied "Jodie". We returned home Wed April 11 and I was checking my online bank account when I noticed a charge for $50 from Ireland's Rustic Lodges. I immediately called and was told that I was speaking to a night person and they could not help me. I called back the next morning April 12 and spoke with a desk clerk who told me it was a charge for an undisclosed pet. I explained that we did not have a pet with us and I wanted to speak to the manager. My phone number was taken and I waited for a call back which never came. My frustration level by late afternoon having still not heard back was such that I called back and was told no manager available again. I gave my number for the 2nd time and was assured the manager would be notified when they came in. Now it's Friday April 13. I just called again at 1030 and was told that the manager was not available and could I give my phone number. Wow! At this point I stated I need a call back today or will contact better business bureau, leave a bad review, contact my bank and put a stop on the bogus charge, and make the 3 hour drive from my home to Ireland's to speak in person to the owner or a manager. The desk attendant then accused me of threatening her! Will conclude this review once my issue with Ireland's Rustic Lodges is resolved.
It is now Saturday April 14 and still no return call from the manager if Ireland's Rustic Lodges. My Debit card was fraudulently charged $50 . A desk clerk said it was for an "undisclosed pet" ! We have no pet! My phone calls have gone unreturned. I want the $50 charge reversed and have not even spoken to a Manager! My return phone number has been taken 3 times. I have been told the manager is in and out all day. There is something very strange going on at Ireland's.
It is Sunday, the 15th and still no call back from Ireland's. Monday my wife will call and see if she can get an explanation of why we were charged $50. I will contact my bank and open a claim disputing the fraudulent charge. I am hopeful the owner will read this and contact me.
We finally got a review response from this establishment. Management will not return phone calls. We had no pet travelling with us and every attempt was made to speak to someone in a position of authority to resolve this issue. Eventually I contacted our bank and disputed the bogus $50 charge. Only then did I get the attached response. Ireland's response to my review is very similar to other reviews that describe the experience at Ireland's Rustic Lodges as negative and substandard. It attempts to justify poor conditions, experiences, and lack of service by blaming the unfortunate guest. We will...
Read moreDo you remember those road trips you took as a kid and you'd end up spending at least one night at your great aunt's house? The carpet was stained and ripped, the furniture didn't match, the TV got terrible reception, and the 1950's era spring mattresses sunk as soon as you sat on them? Well that's what Ireland's Rustic Lodges has successfully duplicated. My family of 6 stayed in a larger room (Room #2 above the old breakfast nook) and first appearances were great. It seems like a quaint little place and in general good repair. Further exploration quickly turned my smile upside down. Years upon years of scuff marks and gouges on the walls and floorboards and dirty nooks and crannies of the bathroom and windows showed that this place has not had a proper cleaning for some time. There was garbage under the bed (granola bar wrappers, dust bunnies, misc junk). Both TVs were very 'snowy' despite being cable. Random mismatched furniture placed in rooms didn't say rustic, it just said "flea market." There was no AC in our room which meant we had to open, then promptly close, the windows because our room was right on the 101 and road noise from trucks was an issue all night long (other lodges/rooms are further away from the highway so it might not be a problem for them). The advertised "good breakfast" in the morning was your usual continental fare: cold cereal, juice, coffee. But there was a twist I'd never seen before: frozen Eggo waffles and a bank of toasters to heat them up. The major distraction during breakfast was the staff woman pushing past customers with a look of disdain on her face as she rushed to restock milk and juice. The grounds are maintained fairly well but broken lighting and worn out paint makes it look drab and tired. From our balcony we could see over several fences that hid years, decades, worth of construction and landscaping refuse, trash, and discarded furnishings. If you fancy to take a walk down to the beach or the "lighthouse" you will have to walk past what I can only imagine is a burn pile of decades worth of discarded lumber, weeds, and cut down trees. Perhaps this isn't on their property (the property lines between a hotel, the lodge, and an RV park are fuzzy at best) but their walkways lead right to it and it diminishes the look and feel of these lodges.
However, the biggest turn off to this place were the 2 framed letters in the room. One talked about how this place has been in the family for years and they strive to deliver value to their customers. It mentioned the owners kicking around the idea of a 21 and older "adults only" area and asked for customer input. The second one was a full page of single space text that talked about how much they are being slandered on tripadvisor by competitors in the town who leave false, negative reviews about them. "Please leave us a good review after your stay," they pleaded, "so we can keep our business." With dirty rooms, lousy mattresses, and gimmicky attractions, Ireland's Rustic Lodges will never be the shining star they think of themselves. Their downfall won't be the alleged false reviews from the competition, but thinking that their current efforts are enough to sustain them in the...
