We stayed at the campground in June 2020. The bathrooms were in good order with signs encouraging the use of social distancing, limiting capacity, and mask wearing where possible. The campsites themselves are small.

We were in the 200s and the sites were very small, so trucks had to park very close to the road, making it difficult for other drivers to navigate the roads. Our specific site, 202, has a large, overgrown evergreen on it. That tree really takes up too much useful room on the site.

The site had full hookup, including 30 and 50 amp electrical service. Water pressure was good. Sewer connection was fine, but a little high out of the ground. Easily manageable, and not a problem if you have a higher connection.

Wi-Fi was not available, but apparently could be found by the office. No cable TV hookup. Verizon LTE coverage was great.

On the map, it appears you can see the lake from the 200s, but there were a lot of trees blocking this view. We could hear the lake, but not see it. The bugs were okay, except when the sun went down and the wind was calm. Then, we had some mosquitoes.

They had a small playground for children, but it is nestled away.

There were a handful of local police/sheriff patrols that went through and made sure everything was fine.

It was easy to walk from the campground to Grand Marais or the lighthouse, which is great. There's a walking trail to go north, including a covered bridge. Unfortunately one side of the bridge has stairs, so it's not very friendly for strollers or wheelchairs.

We'd stay there again, but I think we'd also try to be more selective about the site we stay at, looking...

Jeez! I was reading some of these reviews and I've just got to say to some of these folks, "Cry me a river, Patti Page!" What a bunch of entitled crybabies. This city campground sits on Lake Superior and at the harbor of Grand Marais. This is a beautiful spot on earth and IS busy, and some of the spaces are small, and sometimes the poor, unfortunate folks in their RV's have to wait for the dump station and have trouble maneuvering their behemoths around. For the rest of us that that come we love the roar of the waves and the rocks tumbling on the cobble beach. We love that we can stroll into town from our camp to have a piece of pie or fall back in time as we peruse the old fashioned Joynes General Store or any of the other great businesses downtown. We can get a discounted day rate at their beautiful new Y and we get deals to play the beautiful, 9 hole, Gunflint Trails Golf Course. My wife and I stay there anytime we are entering the BWCA on the east end and have been doing so for the better part of 25 years and have never had a bad time. It is what it is. Leave the bull crap and bad attitudes back home and take a deep breath. If that doesn't help...go find a KOA or something! Grand Marais, see...

Really the only game in town, but ... Grand Marais is such a gem. You've heard "location, location, location", well, Grand Marais has all three. We often attend an RV rally there in early September. Music festival, plein air art competition, wonderful food, exquisite scenery, hiking, kayaking, bicycling, boat tours of Lake Superior. It's a wonderland.

As for the campground, the sites and facilities are clean and well-maintained. Staff is frieendly and helpful. Sites are a bit close to each other, though not as bad as ones we've stayed in in Florida. Some of the sites are badly out of level. Bring lots of blocks, or at least some if you've got mechanical levelers. Power can vary from site to site: we were hesitant to use our microwave this time because of low voltage at the power pedestal. Some sites only have 30 amp service.

All in all, the positive side far outweigh the negatives. You won't regret staying there. Call early for...

Stayed here on my way to Isle Royale and had a wonderful night. I booked an electric site (#233) to charge and camp in my Tesla, which worked out great. It was crowded on a Thursday night (August 17th) but it got really quiet after dark. I had plenty of space at my site and didn’t mind that the other sites were close by. Bugs weren’t bad, but I used spray, a citronella candle, and a Thermacell for protection. The women’s bathrooms were clean, and firewood was available at the office (I think a bundle was $6). Very pet friendly - my dog was relaxed here. Loved the location next to town, which was a beautiful walk during sunset (and I highly recommend getting coffee at Java Moose in the morning). Night skies are beautiful, especially on the water. A little pricey with all the fees (a $43 site turned into $60). I booked my site over a month in advance and there were only a few spots available, so don’t delay!

We were hoping to snag a full hookup site, but the camper right in front of us scored the last spot. We settled for site #218 further back in the campground and it worked out great. It was just a site away from the showers/bathroom house which was convenient to shower all the kids after a long, hot day. Showers are clean, hot and great water pressure. It was a busy weekend but not too loud. Only downside was a tent camped next to us on the final night of our stay and talked until about 1am with a smoky fire a couple feet from our RV. That's the downside of cramming this many sites into the space. Good location for exploring the town, the lighthouse, nearby waterfalls and Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Paid $57 per night on a weekend. Pretty spendy for partial hookups, but it's a good location. Water and power hookups. No sewer.

We are stayed here over Labor Day weekend!!! Its a 10 minute walk to downtown Grand Marais where all the shops and resaurants are and close to the lighthouse attraction also!!! We were lucky enough the day of check in to grab up the last lake site available (these sites are drop in only and can't be reserved) which made our stay even better!!! It was site 3 and it was a full hook up (electric, water and sewer) and right across from Lake Superior! It was amazing to hear the waves crashing all night long!!! The spots were decent sized and plenty of room between campsites (my opinion) For being a good sized campground it is very quite at night and so family friendly!!! It's a pretty nice campground and such beautiful views of Lake Superior and Grand Marais!!! Definitely recommend staying here if you ever in the area!!!
