Belle Vue Kona Bed & Breakfast — Hotel in Hawaii

The Belle Vue is an incredibly special place. The owner, Viviane, is absolutely lovely! She greeted us when we arrived and showed us around, and gave us some wonderful recommendations for the area. The view from the rose garden suite is one of the most spectacular views I will ever see in my life. The suite itself is very spacious (2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, and bathroom) and the beds are comfortable. Viviane stocks the fridge with cereals, bread, milk, and jam. The bathroom has plenty of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as well. I highly recommend booking through her website -- email her and request a quote. It will save you both money. Just Google Belle Vue Kona. Unfortunately, I have to relay the downsides as it is a health concern -- particularly for people with asthma or allergies. The suite does not have air conditioning and has a musty mildew smell. There is either mold or mildew on the ceiling in the bathroom as well. By the second night, I could not fall asleep because I was up coughing and sneezing and my lungs were burning...I took my inhalers and Benadryl and ended up sleeping the remaining hours in the rental car before our flight. I must stress that the mold/mildew is not a result of uncleanliness -- the suite is very clean. It is unfortunately an issue that every home on the big island must deal with because of the humid climate. I emailed Viviane nine days ago to let her know I was writing this review and asked her if she would like me to add anything to it on her behalf; she has not responded, so she may reply in a comment. I would suggest getting an A/C (not because it is too hot, but just to reduce the humidity) and adding two air purifiers, one per bedroom. Absolutely the best place to stay on the island. My husband and I did a road trip around the Big Island staying at several different places along the way.

Belle Vue Kona was our last stop on the big island before we flew to Kauai. When we arrived at Belle View Kona, Viviane greeted us with a huge smile and a welcoming "Aloha" out by our car to show us around.

The view was amazing! The room was amazing! Birds everywhere! Far enough from the main road where you do not hear any traffic and must not have been near any flight path because we did not see or hear planes.

Viviane recommended "Shanka Tacos" as a good place to eat. It was a short 10 min walk and it really was the best food we had on the island!!

My partner and I had a very comfortable stay here. The view from the lanai was absolutely breathtaking and the property is completely surrounded by lush vegetation and fruit trees. It is a good distance away from the main road so it was nice and quiet. We had the Orchid Suite which was super spacious and the decor made it feel very homey. The freshly picked bananas and fully stocked breakfast fridge was a great touch. No need for a wake up call/alarm as the nearby birds and roosters have you covered. There are also several friendly cats roaming the property. Viviane was incredibly welcoming and friendly, offering many great ideas of what to do around the island.
