Many people in Hawaiʻi love the Manago Hotel, and with good reason. It is comfortable, clean, and way cheaper than all the ridiculously overpriced hotels in Kailua-Kona. Here are some other positives: very good food with huge portions, a really nice staff who are genuinely friendly, beautiful grounds and a great view, very comfortable beds, and excellent shower pressure. Also, they now have wifi, which works well. ||If you haveʻt been before, although I would recommend it, you should know what is missing. There are no TVS in the rooms, no phones, no "do not disturb" signs (so housekeeping may come by when you donʻt want them to), no ice machines, no coffee/tea setups, no fridge, no amenities such as shampoo, tissues, and absolutely nothing on the walls so it looks very spartan. There is no air conditioning although the ceiling fan helps. Also, there is a soap dispenser in the shower, and I think that works for shampoo. They have phone booths located throughout the hotel for guests who may not have a cell phone (or whose service doesn't work in the Captain Cook area).||The towels are small and there are not a lot of them - same is true for the one small pillow on the bed. But if you go to the lobby, they will happily give you whatever you need. The walls are pretty thin, so that's another consideration. If you are a larger person, everything will seem too small to you: the toilet, the single bed, etc.||||There are no elevators, and there are many levels. Part of its charm is the unusual design, but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with mobility issues.||||Our room was clean, but the closet was unusable due to.a strong mildew smell. Also, if you arrive late (after 7:30 pm), you must have a working cell phone in order to call up the night watchman who will give you your key as the lobby closes early. Another issue is something which is prevalent no matter where you stay on Hawaiʻi Island in a place with the windows open: coqui frogs. They are quite noisy and they will either drive you crazy or lull you to sleep.||||Lastly, the location - the Manago Hotel is not very far from Kailua-Kona town where all the action is. But if you stay in the area, there is not much going on and very little to see. So itʻs either peaceful or boring, depending on your...

Read moreI wish you were able to rate no Stars on here for Manago Hotel. I had called Manago Hotel to make reservations, when I called I asked if there was any available rooms for 2 nights in return the man I spoke to said yes, he asked how many people, I replied 2 adults and three children, he proceeded to tell me that they can only occupy 4 per room due to fire hazard and what not which I can totally understand, so I quickly turned to my husband and mouthed to him that we can leave our littlest with a sitter or someone for those 2 days so I turned my attention back to the man on the phone and told him can we please make reservations for for 4 people, and this is where things went sour he said " I am aware that your first intention was to have 5 people so therefore I will not make the reservation" so I asked him..."so your telling me that your assuming that I'm going to just make reservations for four and bring 5?! He replied "Yes I do!" With an attitude... The fact that someone would just automatically straight off the bat tell me that they won't make a reservation based off of an assumption they make floored me...he was completely rude and not willing to even hear me out. I said ok Thank you and hung up the phone...frustrated I called back and asked to speak to the manager..The lady on the phone "Brittany" replied back that she was so I told her what had happened and said that I understood why they won't accommodate 5 people but when I was willing to accommodate my situation to fit their regulations I was met with a callous remark...she went on to say that "In the past they've had people reserve for 2 or 4 and bring much more People, my reply to that was that "I'm not those people" "how can you just assume and be so off putting to a potential customer?" "Is that standard procedure?!" I understand that you have the right to refuse service I work in customer service...I know that there is a professional way to handle things and this by far was not handled with any kind of Aloha What so ever....I'm pretty sure that they both could have handled that situation a whole lot better than they did! I'm basically saying that they should have never made assumptions about someone based on their past experiences with someone...
