Located inside Kealakekua Ranch Center along Mamalahoa Highway in Captain Cook. I had noticed the large banner outside this shop every time I passed by on the road, so on the way back from the beach, I decided to stop and check it out. Along with the "Build Your Own" option, they also offer a selection of recommended shaved ice combinations, complete with photos, which makes it easy to choose.

Unlike the tightly packed, round-style shave ice you might find at places like Matsumoto’s or Scandinavian Shave Ice, this shop serves the soft and fluffy Japanese-style kakigori. The colors and flavors are gentle and natural—clearly crafted with care and a health-conscious approach.🍧

The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which adds to the charm of the place. There are plenty of tables outside, so you can sit and enjoy your treat right there.

I was searching for a shaved ice place on this side of the island and this one seemed quite popular. I ordered the small coconut and pineapple with condensed milk on top. The flavors were light and not too sweet or artificial.

The only thing that put me off is that the owner was a bit rude - I went inside the store and had a couple questions regarding the flavors, and in the middle of my questions she started to tell me “if you’re not ready to order, go outside”. Their storefront is quite small so they make you wait outside and look at the menu outside the store.

I understand that you might have other customers also, but waiting is an unavoidable part of ordering food. And in trying to please another customer, you disappointed the first customer, myself. If I wasn’t obsessed with shaved ice and on vacation, I would have...

Ok I have no idea how this place is repeatedly getting 5 stars? We LOVE shaved ice when we visit the HI islands (I mean who doesn’t) so we don’t take the hunt lightly. Both my partner and I were immediately disappointed a few bites in. My 14 y/o son on the other hand was loving it so that’s why it’s getting 2 stars. It’s the kind of shaved ice where it’s truly ice chips and some syrup poured over the top. By the middle it was lacking flavor. Like it was ice mostly at that point.
