My wife and I booked the penthouse for the first two nights of a long-planned second honeymoon. We had read the reviews and had high expectations. As it turned out, Belle Vue exceeded them at every turn.
Prior to our arrival, I had questions on multiple occasions and they were always met with quick and friendly replies. Basically, if you communicate well with them, they will do all they can to be helpful and accommodating.
The location was easy to find with Maps App and parking was ample.
We arrived after dark but, even then, the view was sunning in the moonlight. Due to the time difference, we woke well before dawn the next morning and discovered that, once the moon has set but before sunrise (about 4-5 am in September) the stargazing from the lanai is breathtaking. We used a free stargazing app and spent the wee hours checking out satellites, constellations and galaxies. Then, there was the sunrise. Watching all of the Big Island slowly grow up out of the darkness in a dazzling display of color was breathtaking. I am afraid to post pictures because my phone camera cannot do the view justice.
Sunset was just as amazing as we saw the blazing sun melt into the blue bay and the island slowly sink into blues, purples and grays.
The room was clean and comfortable. No concerning signs of bugs like a couple people mentioned in prior reviews. I saw two spiders and where I come from, we welcome spiders because they keep other stuff away.
The breakfast was actually perfect for what I expect when I travel. I don’t want a heavy meal before an active day. They even left out some fresh fruit to enjoy. (Which reminds me: The other very friendly people we met and the best fruit I’ve ever had came from the Waipi’o Fruit Shack which is a short scenic drive from Bell Vue. VERY WORTH IT).
The bathroom is spacious and the shower very good. The bed is soft and cozy. The sofa is just the right combo of soft but firm enough you don’t get lost sinking in.
The breezes were amazing when we were there. We left the windows open most of the time and the suite remained cool and comfortable.
Waimea itself was very friendly. If you are into a good steak, try the chateaubriand at Merriman’s right down the street. The service there was excellent as well. Even the lady at CVS and the teenager at Burger King made us feel welcome.
We took the drive to Hawi as well. I highly recommend it for the views and the chance to see horse and cattle country.
I will be recommending Belle Vue to everyone I know who travels to the Big Island and I cannot wait to return and try out their other location in Kailua-Kona.
Many, many sincere thank you’s to the hosts for those unforgettable nights and mornings...
