Do not give this place your business. While waiting to be seated at the restaurant next door my 19 year old clean cut , well mannered, Canadian upper middle class son walked in to this store to browse. After entering he was rudely yelled at by the lady working there- stating that he could not shop there unless he brought his parents because kids shoplift. First of all.....he is 19; not a kid. Second of all.... What a shockingly rude way to treat a prospective customer. I went back in with him and she started in on him again until she saw me. I stated that he was 19 so shouldn't need his mommy with him to shop and she lost her mind yelling at me saying if I didn't like her rules the door was right there. Said she didn't need our sale. She was crazy for cocoa puffs. Needless to say we didn't buy anything and will never be back. Just before my son went in a group of about 9 Hawaiian adults went in. I doubt she could keep her eye on 9 people at once yet she wasn't concerned that they might shoplift. Very offensive...
Read moreOwner is a hateful and ugly person. After eating at Hawaiian Style 4 years ago, we decided to go into this shop. I wish we hadn't. The owner of this store is completely unhinged and rude. I had a very intense and weird interaction with her. I shrugged it off as her being older, perhaps not liking tourists (even though her store seems to cater towards them?) and thought maybe she was just having a bad day. Fast forward 4 years later, I went in again, and she was the exact same way. So beyond rude. I am a respectful tourist and I love supporting local business while I am on the Island, but I would never, ever recommend her store or go there again. She is the complete opposite of aloha and I don't need to be Hawaiian to know that. I was not surprised at all to come on here and see people having the same experiences with her.
Going to Hawaiian Style? Don't bother going into this store. You'll only leave completely baffled by this rude woman's behavior and it will spoil...
Read moreI'm very disappointed with this shop!!!! We're on vacation visiting Big Island from Oahu. While we were waiting to eat at the Hawaiian style cafe next door, my daughter and her friend (both 18) went in to see what they have because they love quirky and thrifty shops. Unfortunately, the lady at the desk yelled at them to stop touching things and to just get out! Wow, talk about customer service. We always try and support small businesses, especially coming from Oahu. If you are so ever inclined to consider visiting and supporting this shop, DON'T!! Apparently, they would much rather be rude and disrespectful to people than provide them an opportunity to bless their business. Don't worry, I convinced my wife not to go back in there and go FULL MaMa Bear on that poor miserable excuse of an employee, and if you're the owner, then maybe a career revolving around customer service is not the...
