I feel so lucky to have found this B&B for our trip to see family! The owners are gracious and welcoming. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a mix of antiquites and modern-but-made-to-look-older furnishings. The living room is large with seating to allow chatting with family, and includes a beautiful, wide window bench with gardens just outside to look at. There is a nice front porch, where we sat most evenings for a bit before bed. As others have said, the breakfasts are amazing -- generous and wonderful. Their steel cut oatmeal is creamy and wonderful, the second of ~4 courses. They also had yogurts, cereals, and granola out, but we were so full we couldn't eat another bite; we were wonderfully satiated every day. The B&B is quite but close (walking distance) to many restaurants, including The Dream (formerly Dave's Dream, a restaurant my family members went to in high school -- it was a drive-in back then), and a delicious, healthy, wonderful find, the Allegheny Crepes and Creamery, where we got wonderful salads and kid's grilled cheese with a side of fruit. This will be my first call for lodging if I make it back to this area to see...
Read moreMy son and I visited the Hollidaysburg/Altoona area after placing the winning bid on an auction package benefitting a non-profit organization. Included in this “Altoona Adventure” package was a 2 night stay at Allegheny Street Bed & Breakfast. This non-profit is near and dear to our hearts, so kudos were already in order for the generous donation. I’d hate to sound like a broken record, so I will keep it brief and say that the numerous reviews describing warm and accommodating hosts, delicious breakfasts and immaculate rooms, are spot on. I spent most of my time at breakfast trying to take in every detail of the beautiful space, filled with instruments and antiques. We stayed in the Megan Rice room, which was cozy, quiet and utterly lovely. We enjoyed the stroll along Allegheny Street to check out the charming shops, cafes and restaurants. The location was convenient to many attractions (Everett Railroad, Chimney Rock Park, Horseshoe Curve, Railroaders Memorial Museum, DelGrosso’s Amusement Park, Boyer Candy Factory). Honestly, we just left, and I am already looking for reasons to go back. Jyoti is a gem of a host. ...
Read moreWe were going to visit some National Parks in the area and decided to stay at this B&B. It is easy to get to in Hollidaysburg and walking distance to shops and resturants. It is a family run business and you are treated as family when you are there. If you are not sure what you want to do, they provided wonderful suggestions. Photos show the homes exterior, foyer, drawing room, stairs (3 floors) and the room we stayed in. Everything you needed was available for your use. Only thing was the bed, though comfortable, was hot due to the memory foam when we slept. The room was plenty cool, so that helped. Breakfast was a treat as they provided a multitude of servings. Start with fruit and a warm bowl of steel cut oats. Coffee, juice and a meat/cheese plate as well. But it didn't end there as you were also provided with eggs, bacon and toast (jams and butter). There was also a small plate with smoked salmon and shrimp. If you were still hungry, a small dessert was available. Everythimg provided was in the right portion size to start the day without feeling bloated. If we come back to the area, we will be making reservations...
