Old Canal Inn — Restaurant in Hollidaysburg

Food was pretty good, but service is severely lacking. We had 3 servers total (not sure why) and none seemed properly trained and all acted extremely unprofessional. We were greeted with, "Ya wanna order some food?" when our first server came to our table. She couldn't remember the soups for the day (there were only two), dropping glasses, etc. It seems like a train wreck honestly. I understand they still may be short-staffed, but it seemed like these servers were literally just brought in off the streets with no training whatsoever. My hamburger was supposed to have blue cheese crumbles (my favorite part!) but when I got my burger, I only noticed blue cheese salad dressing. I asked server #2 about it but then she got preoccupied reminiscing with the table next to us (I had finished all of my fries while waiting...) so I hunted down server #1 (who was now behind the bar) and she tells me they are out. Our glasses never got refilled without prompting (even reaches over my completely empty glass to set down the ketchup). It took nearly 15 min to get our check after asking for it, so finally my husband hunted down a server to go retrieve it. My burger was actually very tasty and the fresh cut fries were also good, Due to the lacking service, I'm not sure we will be back which is a shame because we live local and have always enjoyed...

I cannot believe how utterly terrible the service was here. I sat at the bar for exactly 15 minutes. Even though the bar tender clearly saw me come in, and the bar was not that busy, she never said a word to me. Any competent bartender at least says "hi, I will be right there."

Instead, what I witnessed was almost comical disorganization and confusion. She counted change over and over...dropping quaters again and agian. She was back and forth to her only table to take the check, figure out the afforemention change, scribble on a slip of paper (maybe a gift cert??), get togo boxes, and finally walk to the back of the restaurant.

I undertand the chllenge of short staffing that restaurants are experiencing, but this was not that. This was pure ineptitude. Either she is not trained or was giving me the "not a local" treatment. I am not sure which I would prefer! Regardless, it is an unacceptable way to conduct business. Luckily I am just passing through, but if others are visiting the area, I would defintely avoid this place.

Was looking to drink before 9. This place is open and serving breakfast (including the liquid part). Walked right in and sat at the bar. I should have waited to be seated but I have a bad habit of being drawn to taps. Despite no one being in the bar area when I got here a server showed up quickly and got me a beer with no early morning foam issues. Service has been quick and the staff is pleasant, even the side conservations are good humored and mindful of guests. I got the SOS on toast. Not the best version of the dish. But I will admit I’m used to a VA/NC version with butter and pepper in the gravy and salty chipped beef. That said I finished it in record time all the same. Will be back to experience the live shows in the lower level and check out the lunch menu. They also have clean looking outdoor seating! It seems they may open at 8! So I’m plan to start my day even earlier next! (I can stop...
