It's an old, historic building, which is why I booked it. Bed was a bit "bouncy" but all in all, the accommodations were acceptable. BUT --- I want to warn you all about the "Room with balcony," which costs an additional $5/night. There is no balcony. The "Room with balcony has a sliding door which leads to a 2nd floor patio, and there are 4 or 5 rooms which all have sliding doors to the same space. On top of that, there is ALSO a staircase from the first floor where ANYONE in the hotel can access this "balcony" that I paid $5 extra for. I could have kept the $5 and walked up the stairs from the first floor. THAT'S NOT ALL. We visited the bar that evening, and when we attempted to use a credit card, the bartender said, "I'd rather you didn't." Well, that's just inappropriate, dear. It ain't up to you, unless hotel policy is "No Credit Cards." No, that wasn't it. We COULD use the credit card, she would just prefer we didn't. (She basically wanted her tip in cash, which I understand, but shouldn't that be up to the patron? We were short on case.) Internet WIFI was extremely slow. The breakfast included was very limited: either you had scrambled eggs or an omelet. No bacon. No bagels, rolls, etc. They did have white toast. And on the positive side, my friend left his credit card at the bar last night and they brought it to us at breakfast. So at least, they're basically honest. But don't pay for the "Room with balcony." Not a private balcony. A public space. And you're paying $5 for something the other guests...
Read moreWe had stayed at this hotel a few years ago and it had been a pleasant experience-see my previous review. However things had changed-a new owner had taken over.|-We arrived at the hotel for a two day stay it was completely locked.I had missed an e-mail sent the day before telling me that access was via a lockbox with keys inside.|-There was no reception desk.Infact we could not find anyone in the building. To all intents and purposes we were the only people in the building.|-No telephone in the room|-While there was a coffee pot and two paper cups in the room there was no coffee, milk or sugar. We bumped into the one housekeeping lady a few hours later and were told we would have to buy our own as this was not a "full service hotel"|-We were encouraged to climb an outside fire escape to access the building as all the bedrooms were on the second floor and a Bistro with a separate owner had the first floor.|-A cleaning fee was added prior to our arrival.I have never seen this added as a normal charge in a hotel before. This hotel was being run like an Airbnb. If I had wanted an Airbnb I would have booked one|-Overall very disappointed.|-Finishing on a positive note.Christina the one housekeeping lady kept the rooms and beds very clean and the mattress while old...
Read moreLocal business love at City Bistro Hall & Martini Bar in Homestead. Opened 7 months ago. I love to always ask for the history of old buildings. Did you know Hotel Redland is one of the oldest buildings in Homestead? Was built in 1904 and Al Capone stayed at the hotel I'm 1928. The building is a landmark in Homestead. They also say it is haunted because there was a horrible fire in 1913 where many people died🔥. I loved the adjacent restaurant to the hotel, City Hall Bistro and Martini Bar. Ivan greeted us and escirted us to our table. He made sure we had our drinks. The food fresh and delicious. We started with an appetizer, the fried plantains with shrimp, exquisite and delicious 😋. Our main dish was baby churrasco and steak fries. For desert, we ordered the hot skillet with chocolate chip cookie🍪, strawberries and ice cream.
There is outside sitting and plenty inside. The restaurant capacity of 120. They also have a cigar room in the back. Plenty of parking. Kids menu. Music certain days of the week. They offer brunch on Sundays.
I highly recommend Ivan as your waiter and the excellent...
