I have stayed at Diamond Head Beach Hotel and Residences many times and loved it! This review is regarding the most recent stay, Ste 601.||We appreciate the availability of renting a garage space so no need to park at Kapiolani Park and feed the meter (though not expensive).||I need to say renting a unit with a lanai and having lovely views of the surf and sunsets is the main reason this unit was chosen. My family has stayed in another unit with great lanai ( I believe 10th floor) - beautifully decorated and well appointed.||This unit, Ste 601 was not what we expected for $295 a night. The picture showed basic furniture, two queen beds and a lounge chair on the lanai. Ok, we can go with basic.||When we arrived, the room code didn't work so we waited for the host to meet us and fix the problem. We received a call saying no early check in, then another call saying we could heck in early. By the time we were able to access the room it was after normal check in time...oh well.||Stains on the carpet, torn/tattered curtains, no bed spread. Several kitchen tiles were cracked and cheese grater had dried cheese tuck to it. We always wash our dishes prior to use any ways (no, we didn't use the cheese grater- just noticed it)||The bedroom closet had items laying on the floor-must be for owner use or extra "stuff". No bedspreads, just sheets, no appeal.||The air conditioner was loud! We set a room temp at 70 and it definitely was not 70. Seemed to struggle with maintaining an average room temp. Of course, we turned off the air conditioning whilst we were gone.||The lanai is where we loved to have breakfast and spend our evenings if not out. The lounge chair had a tear in the fabric, the outdoor rug was unravelling. ||I feel this place could really use a makeover! The furniture was mismatched, leftovers from college days maybe or finds from a thrift store ( I shop thrift stores and find some nicer lamps than this!)||The living room curtains were worn and torn. Ripped in many areas. The "privacy" white plexiglass placed on the bottom of the wall size windows was separating or not attached well.||We figured being a holiday week (Memorial) it would be too difficult and costly to find another location. We did pay in full, in advance||I contacted the property manager/management company via email (sent pictures) but haven't received a response. I did inquire if there is any reconciliation and suggested an inspection of the unit in person by the president of the property management company as this property is...
Read moreI have stayed at the Diamond Head Beach Hotel four times now and will return again and again. This latest visit was for a month and a half in suite 701, a two bedroom unit with an awesome oceanfront balcony. I was attending to family business with my sister and this was a perfect home away from home, with guest host David just a text away from helping us with whatever we needed to be super comfortable. Two bedrooms rentals are rare in this area and it gave us the privacy we needed for a long stay together.||||The location and views are the best part of staying here. It's quieter, but still walking distance to the hubbub of Waikiki. Views are less obstructed than in Waikiki since this bldg is bounded by the ocean, Kapiolani Park, and shorter, quieter residential bldgs. You can leave your sliding doors and windows open day and night for the trade winds to keep everything at the perfect temperature, while the sound of waves soothes your soul. At 7:15 every night a conch blast heralds in the evening from the nearby Outrigger Club (you can see the canoes practicing from your bedroom window).||||701 is a two bedroom unit with a full kitchen; I have also stayed here in a one bedroom oceanfront and two Diamond Head view studios in past years. They either had kitchens or a small fridge and microwave plus dishes and flatware. The units are extremely clean and come stocked with dish soap and paper towels, basic oil/condiments, and toiletries. Having a kitchen and fridge for my local food finds (I was born in Hawaii so that's important!) was priceless. Towels, beach chairs, an ice chest and a boogie board are provided for beach excursions. Kaimana Beach, a go-to for locals, is a 5 minute walk away.||||There is a coin/credit card laundry in the basement. Parking is available at an extra fee, but in general there is a lot of parking around Kapiolani Park, at least half un-metered (the meters run 10am-6pm), so we did not opt for on-site parking. The whole building is immaculately cleaned and maintained. It's securely gated (you get a fob for entry).||||Since it is a "condotel", the DHBH is one of the few condos that can legally do shorter (less than 30 day) rentals on O'ahu. My other stays were of one week and 3...
Read moreStayed in 1203. The location is perfect and views from the suite are INCREDIBLE. The furniture is very nice and has pretty much eveything you'd expect (soap, TP, towels). The suite definitely felt old and dingy because all of the walls/frames/droors have not been repainted or touched up in what looks like decades. White walls are extremely discolored and marked. Maybe most people dont notice that but details like this make a big difference between the vibe of fresh and clean and old and yuck. Also, the carpets need to be deep cleaned or replaced all together, it felt kinda gross to be barefoot. Again, regular people might not notice that (friends tell me I'm a clean freak). But I hope the owners will see this and consider doing a paint job and carpet replacement because that's so easy to do and will make the suite 1000x better.
FYI, the living room slide door window does not open. The bedroom slide door does open but it does not have a screen so you probably can't keep it open at night for a Hawaiian crossbreeze of fresh cool air. Since I was able to open the bedroom slidedoor window, I washed the outside of it because it was super dirty and harshened the view. On the opposite side of the suite (east facing side) the shades have a few blinds missing so you dont have full privacy from your neighors who walk by.
Would I stay here again? Yes! The views are...
