WANT TO WALK ALONG "THE ARCH OF HEAVEN?" Kapi'olani" in Hawaiian translates to."the Arch of Heaven." King Kalakaua gifted this landscape, now a well known park to his Queen Kapi'olani, and, park namesake. NOW, it seems to this writer that the two walkways which run the perimeter and meet near the base of Diamond Head, form a massive arch. Was this accidental, OR by careful, thoughtful design?
Kapiolani Regional Park shares the mystical shoreline with Waikiki Beaches. And, it sits at the base of famous, iconic Diamond Head.
Stroll through the park (a part of the Lei of Parks), which stretches from the foot of Diamond Head across the well-known iconic landscapes along the southern regions on the Island of Oahu (which in Hawaiian means "gathering place") to Aloha Tower. Be amazed with the wide-ranging activities (including hula shows) on it's premises along with the stunning natural beauty of diverse trees, flowers and scenery, which make up this pathway.
You may also wish to plan a visit to the Kilohana Hula Show on Kapi'olani Regional Park premises (which replaces the Kodak Hula Show of long ago) near the base of Diamond Head and across from the Honolulu Zoo). Performances take place every Sunday through Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM (adjacent to the Waikiki Shell). Come, kick off your morning with some local cultural entertainment with it's insights and fun. And, test YOUR...
Read moreI normally go to the park to let my daughter watch the ducks. The park in general is clean, but homeless people have gradually taken over the restroom near the Waikiki Shell. The bandstand area has also been claimed by homeless people. Some of the people taking up residence near the bandstand stage area are loud and profane, and they litter the seating area near the bandstand with their rubbish, particularly beer cans and glass bottles. My three year old's ears are not accustomed to the vitriol and gibberish. It appears to me that some of the homeless in the area are mentally unstable. I sympathize with my fellow human beings and I hope professional aid is rendered to them. Regarding the facilities, the main jungle gym area is about a 3 out of five. The area is not for children. Some of the equipment is damaged, and the sand area is rocky, so one should wear shoes if doing calisthenics. The trolley stop area has a water fountain, if you drink tap water, but the fountain needs to be serviced. The tennis court area is popular, especially immediately after school closes and during the lunchtime, when the retirees like to play. Friendly people. Overall the park is okay, it is a massive grassy area, so kids can practice soccer, while adults use the fields and barbecue, but the lack of equipment for young children is...
