I rarely write reviews, but this experience warrants one. I stayed here at the end of July during the week of the Junior Olympics. At first glance, the property seemed great — convenient location and decent amenities. Unfortunately, the issues began almost immediately.
On the first night, I realized the AC in my room wouldn’t go below 78°F — a major problem considering it was nearly 100°F outside all week. I notified the front desk, and maintenance was sent up. I was told it would be resolved in 20 minutes, but after leaving for an hour, there was no improvement. I reported it again, and maintenance made another attempt, still with no success. The front desk informed me they couldn’t move me to another room until the next day due to high occupancy, so I spent another uncomfortable night without working AC.
The next morning, I asked again to be moved. I was told a new room would be ready after I returned from the track meet. When I came back, I was informed the AC had been fixed instead. Fortunately, this was true, and I was finally able to enjoy a cool room — just in time for the rest of my family to arrive.
But the relief was short-lived. That night, my daughter spotted a roach on the ceiling. We were horrified. I killed it and took a photo to show the front desk. Maintenance came again to spray the room, and I was once more promised a room change “tomorrow.” The next day, I was told again that a move wasn’t possible due to full occupancy.
By this point, I was extremely frustrated. With most hotels in the area booked due to AAU events, we decided to stay the remainder of the week — checking every bag carefully before heading home — and planned to request compensation at checkout.
When I asked for a discount for two nights without AC and a roach in the room, I was told the manager would follow up. My wife received a call offering $20 off — which felt like a slap in the face. I followed up myself and was told the manager would call me Monday. After four days of back and forth, I finally spoke with them, and the best offer they could provide was an additional $4 off and 20% off a future stay. Needless to say, we won’t...
Read moreI stayed here for a weekend during the aftermath of hurricane Beryl. I remembered they were building this hotel between the Cracker Barrel and Taco Bell, and in the parking lot of the movie theater and thought I would give it a shot to see if they were open yet. I was so relieved they were open with power and a hot breakfast that I booked without asking any details about the room.Boy was I surprised to get a full size fridge/freezer, dish washer, toaster, double cup coffee maker, two pot glass top electric hot plate, full dishes to cook and eat with, full utensils, dish soap, dish towel, pot holder, extra sink, pull out sofa, roll out family size kitchen table tucked under a desk, extra toiletries in the bathroom from Dove, 2 Queen beds, a huge tv, and plenty of cabinet and drawer space. There was even a sheer, but darkened, privacy curtain between the sofa and the beds to dim lights by an early riser. It was amazing for the price and like a second Home Away from home. Beds were super comfy too. Breakfast was appreciated but the same all three days. They were probably making due with what they had. They have scrambled eggs with cheese only, none plain. You had to request it with the front desk cuz the kitchen told us no. There may have been a language barrier. There was cut and fried beef sausage links that were a bit greasy but good, waffles, pastries/muffins, bread and bagels, oatmeal, cereal, some fruit, some yogurt, juice and coffee. Would loved to have seen biscuits and gravy or bacon and breakfast sausage, but we were in a hurricane situation. We noticed there was a bar area downstairs but didn't take advantage of it. They had brand new front loading washers and dryers, two each, just inside the gym. They were only $2 to wash and $1 to dry. They worked very well but we pulled our clothes out of the dryer early for it runs 75 min. The pool is a good size for a hotel. It is long with plenty of room. They also provided blue pool towels.Frankly I didn't...
Read moreThis was my first time staying at Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Kingwood/Houston and also my first time in the Kingwood area.
With that being said, this hotel was a breathe of fresh air. It's VERY clean, excellent service from everyone involved, room flips were meticulous and fast, free continental breakfast, good wifi, excellent bar, and in a good area with things to do.
The room I stayed in had a full kitchen with pots, pans, cups, free coffee and tea. There were two large new tv's (one in the living room and one in the bedroom). The living room also feature a fold out bed in the couch. The bedroom was spacious with a king sized bed. Bathroom is another great feature as the shower is ADA compliant with handrails along with two showerheads.
As someone who travels often, the small things Hawthorn provides such as free breakfast mean so much as it's hard to find amenities like this anymore. The 24 hour staff is absolutely excellent as they provided wonderful service and treating you like they've known you forever (I really appreciated the first name basis service). If you get to meet the owner, jump at the opportunity, she's a wonderful human being and takes great pleasure in providing top notch hospitality.
As mentioned before, the hotel is in a good area. I recommend going to "Ginger Robata" for sushi as it's in the same lot. There's a movie theater adjacent also in walking distance of the hotel. Other fun recommendations to try out:"
"The Draft"- solid local sports/dive bar with food and affordable drinks
"Italianos"- probably the best Italian restaurant with a cocktail bar (sit at the bar so you can meet the Bar Manager, David).
"The Union Kitchen"- if you want more upscale dining.
"Texas Roadhouse" - because who doesn't love the biscuits? Side hack, get here between 3:00pm-5:00pm to score their early dinner deal.
Thank you to everyone at Hawthorn Extended Stay for making the past week feel like a...
