The only ‘4 star hotel’ with a 3 star rating (and it should be two stars) It is very clear upon walking in why the hotel is so dead.. because the new management and ownership is truthfully atrocious. The website is misleading at best, and complete false advertising at worst. Having booked this place through Frontier, which the website there said they featured free Continental breakfast (they don’t), we called before booking because we’d seen the hot tub in the pictures.. it doesn’t get hot. In fact when we checked in, the front desk attendant laughed and said “if it decides to work” The first night in our original room I noticed black mold in the vent of the accessible room I was in. I brought a wipe with it to the front desk, requested to get a new room, went to investigate the new room on floor 7. Upon getting off the elevator, just seconds after stepping off onto floor 7. The entire building went black at 10:30 at night. Which means it’s not up to code by a Marshall standpoint. There are no lights, no exit signs, no lights on the stairwell.. which we could have fallen down getting to the lobby to see what was going on. There are holes in the walls unpatched. There was dirty brown and black grout in the roll in shower. Somehow PUBIC hair inside the mini refrigerator, in TWO rooms. Both the original room, and the room we were moved to. The staff is incompetent, you can immediately realize they don’t care about their job, and as a result they definitely don’t care about you. I will be calling Sonesta about our stay, and the owner will be lucky if I don’t call the fire Marshall to report that the building is not up to code. I’m sure this hotel is just months away from bankruptcy and shuttering. Where it will be added to the urban hellscape which it sits in the midst of. The neighborhood is terrible. The owner wastes their money on geriatric security (probably all he can afford) that makes one feel less than safe.. seriously what is an 80 year old man going to do to protect an entire lot of a couple cars.. not much. This place is honestly a joke, and had I read reviews on Google (like this one) I would have avoided this less than satisfactory situation. I’ve read that people have woke up to having no water (the city shut the water off several days in a row) and now with the blackout that occurred.. I’m wondering what the new ownership was thinking when they decided to acquire this property, without putting any money in it to make it the least bit suitable. If it would let me upload videos I would upload the video I filmed in pitch black darkness on the 7th floor. After almost getting stuck in the elevator, and there being absolutely NO emergency lights in the halls or the pitch black stairwell. I’m considering looking into legal assistance and filing suit for false advertisement, as well as endangering their guests by not having the appropriate emergency lighting. I’m lucky to have had my phone on me so I could make it to the lobby, down 7 stories unscathed.

Read moreBooked a room for an event prior to the switch from Hyatt to Sonesta. It was SO HARD to get in touch with someone to verify my reservation had transferred over. Week of the reservation: I called because I could not find online if the rooms had refrigerators. I was told yes. Day of check in: I had requested lowest floor possible, but when I was checking in they initially had me on floor 7. Had to get swapped. OK fine. Get room keys, and head over. Walk into room: immediately get hit with smell of mildew (or dirty feet...or both). Disgusting. Call to desk: they have no more open rooms so I'm stuck. Fine. Get unpacked and realize....there is no fridge in my room. apparently only SOME of the rooms have refrigerators. Why would you say that the rooms come with them if not ALL of the rooms come with them? No spares to send to my room and my only option would be to swap rooms mid-day Saturday after check out. Not acceptable as that is right in the middle of the event we're at the hotel for. So, I go to get ice. NO ICE on ANY floor, have to take your ice bucket and a bag to the 'bar' and get some. 2 towels, 1 hand towel and 1 washrag for a double room for 2 nights? Never got the extras I requested either. AC in room: thermostat was not accurate. I had it set to 75 and it felt like the arctic. There wasn't even a heat option to select. Breakfast: If I was charged $20+ per person for what most hotels offer as complimentary, I would be VERY upset. Thankfully it was included in our room deal for our event. The food was good, but nothing special. There are only 2 entrances (that I saw) so be prepared to walk quite a ways if you have to return to your car for anything. Check out: clerk seemed very annoyed I made them interrupt whatever they were doing on their phone to check out. Could not give me a receipt. And after looking at my credit card statement I see that I was charged $50 per DAY hold fee that I wasn't made aware of. The ONLY way I'll return to this property is if I attend another event here. EDITING TO ADD: prior to my check-in, I attempted multiple times to log-in on their website to verify my room & also get a rough estimate of the cost of my stay, plus also review any additional charges there may be or any add-ons I might be able to get. The reservation number I was previously emailed was not valid, and when I contacted customer service explaining as such, all I was told was to enter the information that was emailed to me. So unhelpful. Getting someone on the phone at the actual hotel was such a chore that I gave up after 3 calls that were answered &...
