I routinely stay at a Holiday Inn Express when I travel and usually I have a good or great experience but this particular one was an exception. It's totally my fault for not reading reviews prior to booking our stay otherwise we would have looked at other options.
Let's start with the positives.
Pros Close proximity to a major highway, which makes it easy to get back on the road Affordable Very large room (there's about 8 feet of walking space between the foot of the bed and the TV stand) Massive jetted tub which is big enough for 2 people Decent hot breakfast with sausage patties, scrambled eggs, hash browns, pastries and a few other expected breakfast items. Plenty of options and it didn't taste bad.
Cons There was an unusually high number of people that appear to be loitering in the parking lot and near the entrance Only one elevator, which wouldn't be a huge deal if not for the fact that it is simultaneously the slowest elevator on the planet. This building is only about 4 floors high but the elevator ride feels like there's twice as many floors The in-room AC unit was obnoxiously louder than expected. It did put out cold air but it sounded like something was wrong with it. The toilet doesn't flush well at all. Double flushing was always a requirement. The sink was clogged and drained very slowly but did eventually drain. The tub was absolutely gross. Caked on dirt/grime stains in every crevice. The bottom of the tub was caved in with a pool of water that couldn't drain. It was very difficult to shower without standing in a pool of filth. Having the bathroom vent running makes the tub shake wildly. Bathroom lighting was terrible as the lights take a really long time to warm up and even after warming up the light don't shine where you adequately see yourself in the mirror. The lights are on the left and right sides of the mirror as opposed to being above or pointing towards your face. The heat lamp in the bathroom looks like it needs to be replaced. The building itself is in serious need of touch up or a full-on remodel. The carpet is dated and the wallpaper was peeling at a lot of seems in our room. The WiFi signal in room fluctuated a lot. One moment I was connected fine and then a few minutes later it would disconnect and then reconnect. Speed tests show ~10 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up. Not bad but I've seen much better in other Holiday Inn Express hotels. The TV is way too small for a room this size. Good luck watching TV while in bed. Most of the buttons on the remote control didn't work. Only functional buttons were the power, channel up, number keys 1, 2, 6, 9, and 0. The volume up/down buttons work intermittently. The channel down and the other number keys didn't work. Parking is shared with the neighboring hotel so spaces are very limited. I ended up parking in the back where there wasn't much light.
Before I went to bed, I read reviews about others having their vehicles damaged or having the catalytic converts stolen from them. This did not happen to my vehicle but seeing those posts had me nervous all night. I don't know if this is still an issue but there's been a recent history of issues with vehicles at...

I booked this hotel 3 weeks in advance for a company trade show. I flew in on a redeye after a long day of work and continued work the next day. Upon check in everything went smooth. The staff attendant was very friendly and helped me out with the standard procedure.
Upon entering our room I noticed the smoke detector beeping as if the battery was low and called the front desk to fix it. They sent a maintenance staffer to come fix it and replace the battery but it did not fix the issue.
At this point I have not slept in over 24 hours and was exhausted. I just needed rest. I asked to exchange rooms and was told nothing was available.
The beeping was driving me crazy so I decided to go out for some food. While I was out the staff called and let me know that they found a room and would have it ready for me when I returned from dinner.
When I returned the original representative helped me exchange rooms.
I thought, hey I might actually be able to get some rest before my early morning flight! Boy was I wrong. While trying to fall asleep I noticed something crawling on me and found a bed bug on my shirt. My impulse reaction was to crush it.
At that point i realized I might have just killed a bed bug but couldn’t confirm.
I got up to use the restroom and while in the restroom saw that there was about 5-6 of them crawling on my clothes. At this point I had to throw my clothes off and document it where the photos and videos come from that are attached to my review.
I immediately find some plastic bags and isolate my infected clothes and go notify the front desk and this is where a new representative starts to document this for me and offers me to be put back into my original room.
I notified her of the smoke detector issue and she calls a new maintenance staffer out to check it.
The new maintenance staff fixes the issue. It was a dead battery and the first maintenance staff did not actually use a new battery but an old one because they didn’t know where the new ones were located (interesting to say the least)
Anywho it is now 36 hours of no sleep. I am jittery and back in my original room but I will not be able to sleep. This hotel has me feeling icky and I just want to go home. This has been a terrible experience and I would never choose to stay at this hotel again.
The only reason it was chosen is because of its location and somewhat of okay ratings near the airport.
The parking situation outside is very limited. The outside of the building looks nice but is located right next to a motel 6 which is run down. The roads to the hotel are run down as well and overall just not a presentable look.
This is my fault I should have done my own research but you should know before you book.
The insides of the room are decent and expected of the hotel rating.
Accessibility is there.
Staff although weren’t helpful were nice.
Overall I would not recommend staying at this hotel.
For the manager Rachel Jean please reach out to me to discuss this matter. My room numbers were 224 and 130.
130 being the one...
Read moreI have been staying at the Holiday Inn Express Hotels for 20 + years, and this was absolutely the worst experience. As a matter of fact, this is my first negative review in all my stays!
First, there was a loud family next door slamming the door until midnight and the again at 6am. So, we were not able to sleep well, and so the lady at the front counter refunded me $20 per night for 3 nights. However, I checked my credit card today and the hotel removed the credit and instead charged me full price!)
Second, our hotel key, and the hotel key of other customers, was not opening the door to the pool. We asked the lady at the front desk to open the door for us but she said, "I am not allowed to leave the front desk!" Long story short, it took more than 30 minutes for the lady at the front desk to open the pool door...yes, we had to wait 30 + minutes to use the pool. After we got out of the pool we realized there were no towels to dry off....not one single towel! We tried our hotel key the next day, and it still would not open the pool door! This was at roughly 7:30pm and the pool hours were until 11pm, and so there was no excuse for the pool to be closed.
Third, on day one I asked for extra towels and another pillow. The lady at the front desk said," I will make a note for you and have your stuff in your room shortly. Two hours went by and nothing was brought to the room. I went down stairs and the lady that I requested the towels from was now gone for the night and a new lady was there who knew nothing about my request. So, now my wife and I were leaving for dinner and requested the towels and pillow again. The lady at the front said the towels and pillow will be ready when you get back front dinner. We got back from dinner 2 hours later and there was nothing ready for us. It is clear to me that this hotel is short staffed and disorganized.
Fourth, on the final day, the lady at the front desk offered me 10,000 points for my other issues (this was supposed to be separate from the $20 a night refund for my original issue). I checked my IHG account, and they only gave me 5,000 points.
In summary, I have never had an issue at any Holiday Inn Express other than this one. It is clear that they did not want anyone using the pool during business hours, this is evidenced by the locked door on all 3 nights and the lack of towels on day one! It was clear that the hotel is understaffed! I was promised a $20 refund for 3 nights (first issue), 10,000 points (for remaining issues), towels and pillow, but nothing was honored.
On a good note, the pancake machine and breakfast was amazing as...
