Our family travels a lot so we stay in a lot of hotels. We are diamond elite with Holiday Inn but were kicked out due to not reserving more days and someone else reserving our room. We ended up finding this hotel and decided last minute to book it. This location is about 20 min away from Lake Charles. If you are going to stay here the best place to eat is In Laws but you have to go early because they sell out of food with all the truckers coming in. By 5pm the line is out the door.
(PROS) This hotel is newly renovated and so everything is brand new and the rooms are very clean and beautiful with new wood floors. I had no complaints, the ice machines worked on every floor which was a plus. We had no issues with the internet and the complimentary bottles of shampoo, conditioner and lotion were really nice. It has argan oil and not that cheap dove that a lot of hotels use. The housekeeping was professional and they were really kind. Also the AC unit in the room is brand new and doesn’t have a weird musty smell which is nice.
(Cons) When I first called the hotel I asked about breakfast. Breakfast is important because I have small children and I need a variety of different foods for them like fruit, yogurt ect. We were very excited for breakfast and were told they have a menu for the whole week. Breakfast was very disappointing. It wasn’t what we thought and we’ve also never stayed at a hotel where we were served a plate. That was not the problem. We are fine being served, but by our last day my husband and I got in an argument about who was going to go down and get breakfast because the women behind serving the breakfast was in a bad mood. We give people the benefit of the doubt and we all have bad days. But it was everyday we were here we did not want to ask her for food. It made all of us very uncomfortable. I need to add that this hotel was booked and the breakfast room was over crowded and she was by herself. Milk is not provided, if you ask for milk for your cereal you are getting poured very very little in a tiny cup half way that’s not enough for cereal so we choose not to get cereal. You have to also ask for yogurt but we didn’t want to ask because we already asked for waffles and eggs and did not want to get attitude when we asked for an additional item. The fact my husband and I didn’t want to go down after a few days says a lot. This morning I did not get my daughter breakfast so I had her go down when she woke up and she came back crying. We asked what was wrong and she said she asked for a waffle and the women got mad because she looked like she was already closing down and wanting to leave and it made her feel bad. It’s not my husband and I she made feel this way it was our child too. We told her some people are just this way because of stress and either over worked or need help and don’t have it.
I suggest you don’t leave this woman alone working and get her more help. Your front desk said she offered and the woman declined. If she is going to be upset serving people that she makes them uncomfortable she needs to accept the help. We know you were understaffed the week we stayed. This hotel has a lot of potential. Breakfast is a small issue that needs fixing and this be a 5 star. Thank you. We will be booking again in the future. Hopefully breakfast will be...
Read moreWe live in Iowa, La. Where this hotel is located.. We were needing a room for 2 nights due to our rental being worked on and then we were leaving for another 2 nights in Lafayette, La. For my grand daughter being nomination for LBA's yearly bands and concerts at "The University of Lafayette". So, we planned on booking for their other hotel in Laf. La. after this stay. But the young man that answered my call said the rooms are 170ish after taxes Suits were with in 10.00 of each other.. We didn't take the room in Iowa, I must sadly admit. However We've stayed in this hotel a lot of times. It has always been very clean, grounds are beautifully taken care of. The employees actually like/love being at work, too. That's very uncommon nowadays. The inside has been totally remodeled from 1st floor to 3rd floor, everything and is plum gorgeous!! The pool is very well taken care of. Lafayette has "The Best Western" and its the same just as nice and clean. If your doing any kind of business or traveling thru or in Lake Charles, La. area. Iowa is only about 13 miles form down town Lake Charles ! This hotel is awesome and very safe to stay here. We've never in all the yrs its been open, had any kind of rif raf or problems at all. If your traveling thru on I-10 at Iowa, La. We have pretty much everything you could need. We have restaurants, the 2 truck stops, that has food to die for.. We have "The Iowa Pharmacy" "Dollar General." We also have 2 grocery stores, "Market Basket" on the main st. & "Spring Marekt" is on Hwy 90 just pass up Market Basket, it's on your left before the R R tracks, and our City Hall and our "City Park". Go straight to the end of main.. where the 2nd red light is at! That's Hwy 90 runs east and west, make a right there and it's just right there on your left, right past the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's sub station, then "Family Dollar" store. Oh yeah,"Stines is at that same red light! We have other businesses, as well. Plus "Calcasieu Parish Library" is just past the 1st red light on your right, and the best Donuts at the Donut shop right after the Library, both are on the right (west) side of Thompson St. which is aka main drag of Iowa..😂 Yes, we're country folks here and we love it.♥ Market Basket has the "Courtesy Desk" They do, do Westen Union, they are a certified pay station , like to pay utilities. Don't forget this Best Western is for a lack of better words.. outa this world great, is an understatement for sure. They are really child and children friendly.. You'll love this "Best Western" and our little Cajun...
Read moreWe had a terrific stay with Best Western! We arrive fairly late on our spur-of-the-moment weekend getaway. The gentleman who greeted us and helped with our reservation was truly so kind. He was friendly, but not overly chatty. We needed some plastic utensils so we could eat dinner, and he went right away to get us some. He didn't seem irritated like many do when you ask for something.
We arrived in our room and noticed that it (as well as the rest of the hotel) has been remodeled/updated recently. According to a picture in the lobby entrance, it was updated about a year ago. Everything looked so clean and new. There were no funky smells in the room or anywhere else that we noticed.
I highly recommend staying here if you want to reserve...
