Green Top Tavern — Restaurant in Kalamazoo

This is My first time visiting the establishment, I explained this to My waitress, she was horrible, wasn't attentive, didn't explain the specials, left me waiting long periods of time between points of contact, didn't explain that a cream soda was not a fountain drink, it came from a bottle, therefore no free refills. My original drink was a cherry coke, I thought I was just switching drinks because I didn't like the combo of the in house cherry syrup and coke, which she never asked if that was ok btw. But on the bill she originally charged me for 4 of them which was an additional 10.00 on the bill, when I had to go find her to even discuss the bill she gave me a blank look and said "yeah they come in bottles" like she didn't understand what I meant by "you didn't tell me these weren't fountain" she snatched the receipt, rolled her eyes and took 2 off. I said "wasn't one of the first things i told you was this is my first time here because I felt she should be apologized for being so inattentive, then took 3 off, not 2, 1 was for my daughter but I thought I was just getting a free refill because the concoction she brought me originally (the homemade cherry coke) wasn't good at all. Instead she became defensive, LOUDLY said "it was just a misunderstanding" and walked off...no....thats not how misunderstandings work you just weren't properly doing your job because I told you I had never been here, you didnt explain the menu. Brunette, curly hair, glasses, about 5'5 never introduced herself she made the whole experience regretful. I had the mushroom swiss burger, it was very bland, I would be willing to come back and try something else if it weren't for my waitress. I'll never come back, never recommend ,she made me feel completely...

I DARE you to top this place. . A Kalamazoo institution started 97 years ago as a cigar shop. For a good time: Order an oberon, a hot slam, a Coors with no shame . Piping hot with fries and customized to your request., Aside from solving climate change, nothing gets better than this.

When I walked in, I instantly knew "this is a real bar for real people"" who's primary purpose is to have fun or relax at the bar by themselves. The Stand Out staff provides personable and efficient service, They seem to sense whether or not you want conversation or silence which is very refreshing in this day of over- the- top perky servers. The vibe and the patrons vary according to the time of day you go and which days you go. Personally, I will never go on Thanksgiving weekend again. Lots of kids catching up with old friends. Lots. I'm not a gamer. But they have a pool table and all sorts of classic bar games.

The place appears smaller than it really is if you look at it from the outside. Inside there's just around my right amount of space. It has an intimate feel, yet holds a lot of people.

From some people's perspective, this is a dive bar. From my perspective, it's a unique, can't - live - without - it place.. I confess I used to think of it as " not my kind of place". Now I know better. And remember, never limit yourself when it comes to healthy pleasures. My girlfriend and I stopped by the Green Tóp for BRUNCH after the farmers market...

Came here with my husband for the first time with some of his co-workers after a lovely fundraising event. The place was packed when we got there but thankfully a few people in our party got there before we did and secured a couple of tables. The bartender was nice and mixed up a few tasty drinks for us and my husband went on a beer adventure trying "new to him" stouts. I actually though the place was gonna be like a little hole in the wall type but it didn't seem to bad once inside. The atmosphere seemed pretty lively and it appeared that about half of the people were regulars. There's a pool table and a dart board near the front which I thought was pretty cool especially since I used to be a pretty avid dart player myself way back when I didn't have five kids! Anyway it was a little late when we got there so I didn't even notice if they served food. We were there for drinks anyway so food wasn't on my list of wants. But from what I did have, I enjoyed. the drinks were made well, not skimping on the alcohol and the shots were well... shots. It was a good time overall, I mean it had to be alright being that we basically closed the place. I'd definitely like to go there again. Right in the middle of downtown conveniently close to all the places I go. And I think the next time my husband and I are out for a night downtown; since we do on a occasion go out hitting up different restaurants and bars or checking out local art events and such this will one of the places...
