Historic Elegance in the Heart of Las Vegas NM
This is the place, yes this is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas NM or the surrounding area. I had the pleasure of a one night but memorable stay during a trip through the area. Bored of the usual chain hotels that typically stay in, I decided I wanted to stay someplace memorable, unique and with a touch of elegance. I pulled up my three trusty apps, TripAdvisor, Google and Yelp and for once they all agreed that this was the place to stay in Las Vegas NM, on top of that, it was surprisingly affordable. A no-brainer right? As I approached the hotel I noticed it was situated on a circular plaza. The plaza is right in the center of Las Vegas and home to many shops, businesses and restaurants. Now let's get one fine point, parking!!! You can park in front of the hotel but parking is limited, if you go to the back you find very limited parking as well. I had to park and go inside the hotel and have one of the employees tell me that you can park in the big parking lot overnight it's just unofficially okay to park there.
Now to the hotel. a recent renovation that still held on the classic past is what awaits you when you walk in. There are historic artifacts all over the hotel, including pictures and paintings from the past, as well as furniture and other items. The gift shop too carries antiques as well as other touristy items. There are three places to get drinks and food, there is a bar in the hotel which serves snacks and a restaurant where I had breakfast. There is also a little coffee shop serving coffee and snacks in the front lobby.
Now to the rooms. All of the rooms are uniquely decorated and named after a celebrity of the past or present. My room, in particular, was the Hilary Swank Suite which was one of the rooms that face the plaza or a Plaza View King Room. My room was elegantly ordained with antiques and tastefully decorated. Not only that, I could actually open my window!!! Another bonus was the strong signal from the wifi. My bed was big and comfy and since it was summer I slept to a nice cool breeze in my room.
Please note that this was a Friday and the 'Plaza' across the street is a park with a bandstand that has live music at least on Friday nights. This is also a lively western town with nightlife, you may hear music from the bars and the sounds of loud motorcycles at any given time.
In the morning I sauntered down to the restaurant and had one of the best Huevo Rancheros that I've had in a long time. The service in the restaurant was top-notch and my breakfast was absolutely delicious and at a great price point. This is the place to be if you're ever in Las Vegas, I highly...
Read moreI typically don't write bad reviews, but this property was exceptionally unprofessional upon check in. I reserved on their website specifically because I wanted the set up of rooms that I needed for our Christmas celebration with our grown son. Upon arrival we received two rooms, both with one bed. Although the rooms were amazing, they did not fit our needs, we needed one more bed.
Took the keys to one room back and was told that since I booked online, on their website there was no guarantee that what I purchased is what I would receive. Sorry, what? I was told that I had to reserve over the phone to make sure I got the rooms needed. My reservation was correct, I had purchased the correct things so imagine my confusion and frustration. I was told that the only thing they could do was get me a cot, which was unacceptable for our stay. So I asked if I could rent another room, no. Is there a room with two beds like I purchased? No, since you booked online there was nothing they could do, I was getting more and more frustrated as the sign behind her in the lobby had plenty of rooms open for rent, when I inquired about those, I was told they were under construction. I wasn't asking for anything free and was more than willing to pay for another room so our family could be comfortable.
I then asked her to call a manager and she advised that the manager lived far away, I still pressed for her to call and after a few minutes she went to the back of the hotel and advised she had spoken to her manager and there was nothing that they could do. So fine, get me two cots so I can make a proper bed. I also asked the name of the manager and was told she didn't know her name, didn't you just talk to her? She finally gave me the name of Star and I inquired if Star had a card, and was told no, so I asked for Star's last name and was told that she didn't know her last name and wouldn't give it to me if she did. I'm sorry, any time there is a problem and you have attitude instead of a solution I'm going to need some information on who is in charge.
Needless to say, we never got our cots, or extra blankets, so one of our family members slept on a sofa with no pillows or blankets.
As a person in the hospitality industry, I was appalled at the lack of customer service and professionalism.
There needs to be some serious training for the front desk staff and I'm saddened that our staycation in New Mexico was not what it...
Read moreDisclaimer: I spent several weeks here while in town for work, so my review is based on a several weeks stay, not just one night: So my company put us up here later last year, (2022), while doing some work in town. Honestly, awesome experience all around. It was the most historic hotel I’ve ever spent substantial time in. I love history, especially when I get to personally experience it and… I loved the history of the place, it was evident all around with the decor, and preservation of the structure even through the renovations, while also providing the modern necessities of a top shelf hotel. Although I’m not a big reader, I loved that the room had a small library of its own to indulge in.
Also, the restaurant, all though not busy when we arrived around lunch time, still managed to deliver decent food in a timely manner. Still not anything to rave about, but I’m more than willing to give the food a more in-depth review next time. I really did enjoy Byron T’s bar later in the evening, which provided great drinks with prompt, quality, tasty tacos with my drinks. Even though a testy, inebriated patron decided to start a fight with a table of innocent, old ladies late-night, it provided an interesting show including police intervention, and bartender apology. Although I didn’t mind at all for their drunken shenanigans, I felt entertained and well fed and cared for in the mean time. However, the staff did handle the problem very professionally and I can greatly appreciate that.
However, for the meat… the reception/check in was great, the environment was cozy and historically intriguing, the food was good but could be better, I KNOW the ingredients weren’t all fresh, some frozen and reheated, (please make that better), the bar was great in the evenings, (bartender could be a little more interactive with newbies as well as regulars), I got a great night’s sleep every night in my time there and I’d gladly stay again. Try it out and be sure to grab a drink at Byron T’s downstairs! You may even catch some great live music! Overall…...
