We just returned home from a stay at the Grandiflora B&B - what a wonderful stay!!! Hugh was our host. He was warm and friendly, easy to talk to and very accommodating. It was our first visit to the area. I'm guessing like a lot of people, we were there because Ben and Erin Napier emphasize the kindness of the people there. .. and we were hoping to see some of the homes they had revived. Hugh had made a map of some of the homes on the show that were within walking distance of his B&B. He gave us the history of the town and shared with us some of his family history and that of the B&B. When we were looking for a church, he invited us to his. Just a lovely man. The B&B itself was spectacular... it was everything you would expect of a grand southern home with a wide marbled entry and the curved staircase. We were invited to explore and relax in any of the downstairs rooms which were large and beautifully decorated. The back of the house has a large bright and sunny kitchen where there is a coffee bar set up all day. The back garden had all types of plants with meandering walkways, seating areas, and a water feature. There's a grand front porch to just relax on and watch the passers by. The bedrooms are large with beautiful antiques. We stayed in the Jefferson suite. The antique bed once belonged to the Mayor of Natchez MS! I could go on and on... If you are a fan of "Hometown" you'll be thrilled to know it's a quick walk across the street and one house down to the home of the Napiers.
We were in town for three days. Never have I met more friendly and welcoming people. Folks working in their yards would call out a hello and welcome as we passed by. Many would stop and chat. People driving by would wave or stop and wish us well. One lady even invited me in to tour her home when she saw me admiring it.
I highly recommend a visit to Laurel and if you want to make it a truly perfect visit stay at the Grandiflora!!!
Thank you, Hugh. We...
Read moreMy positive comments: Alex and Shelby were outstanding - so welcoming! they anticipated our every need. Dr Hugh could not have a better set of employees than the two of them! Dr Hugh did a beautiful historic overview of the home and detailed history of the city of Laurel. Enjoyed that very much! Breakfasts were best I've ever had! So enjoyed other guests around the table - delicious coffee, juice, fruit, biscuits/gravy, grits, bacon, eggs, muffins, and more! Food excellent both mornings! Great location -centrally located! Home was extremely clean, kitchen was sparkling! Felt right a home!
The artistic design elements of the home were so interesting - from the art, to the plaster detail on the ceiling, and around crown molding. Beautifully displayed china, crystal, and silver! The atmosphere was just lovely!
Outdoor setting was lovely, beautiful garden fountain.
Loved the "Make-up" washcloth provided.!
Two comments: The Jefferson Suite needs an updated bathroom - had difficulty managing the water temperatures in tub /shower combo, and sink. The hot water knob in tub had a broken ceramic handle on it, so it was cumbersome to use.
The outside driveway is extremely uneven and difficult to maneuver, so watch that if/when you take a visit.!
To close, it was a...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here this weekend celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. This was a bucket list trip to visit Laurel and I’m so happy we stayed here. I think it’s the finest B and B in America! Totally 5 star in every way! Miss Lindsay and Shelby were absolute perfect hostesses and both fabulous cooks! Mr. Hugh, the owner of this fine establishment gave us a great tour of the house, including not only the history of the house but also of Laurel. This little gem of a town is way more than just the TV show- it’s community at it’s finest! We experienced this first hand while taking a golf cart tour with DJ Bolton, (I highly recommend taking his tour- it is well with the money! As we drive up and down the streets, people waved, welcomed us on the cart, honked and yelled greetings to DJ! He knows everyone and they all know him! If Lindsay or Shelby recommend someplace , do it, you won’t regret it! We went through the shops, ate at Miss Pearl’s, Mimmos and Loft but I would have been just as happy to sit on the second floor porch, sipping a glass of wine and eating more of Lindsay’s cheese grits or Miss Dot’s pound cake! If you get the chance, book a room at Grandiflora and go visit and I promise you won’t be...
