Great place to visit, lots of fun products and the ability to watch Ben from Hometown on HGTV in his workshop. Some of the items are a little pricey but they're also very good quality so it makes sense they're a a little more expensive. They are all handmade - leather items like wallets and Keychains, wooden items like cutting boards, fun souvenirs like stickers and coffee mugs with the General Store logo. They also have lots of food items - salsa, jelly, taffy, popcorn, sodas, lots of yummy items to choose from!
We enjoyed getting to go to the Scotman General Store, it's pretty much the same as you see on TV. It's nice that they've turned part of it into a store people can visit and see inside his workshop. When we were there they were filming a different show, something coming to Discovery Plus that we haven't seen yet. We are excited to watch so we can see when this episode comes on.
Everyone at the store was very friendly and personable. Each one working there asked us where we were from and why we were visiting which was fun. They're a bunch of down to earth people who genuinely act like they care about you as a person which didn't surprise me - the southern hospitality shines through from each of them! We enjoyed talking to the man who was in front of the glass where you can see inside the workshop where they film. I wish we would have gotten his name, he was just really friendly and made us feel very welcome!
We can't wait to go back and visit to see what great items they have added to the store and hopefully see more filming take place while...
Read moreThe Scotsman is a beautiful store and pretty much what you would expect if you're a fan of the show Hometown. We chatted with the manager (Mike) for several minutes. He was friendly and had interesting information to share. I was a little bummed that none of the wood products were made by Ben, but I guess that was a naive thought. Besides the cutting boards, pizza rounds, and lazy susans, they had products like jam, seasonings, coffee mugs, t-shirts, and coffee. Everything they sell is made in the USA. Of course, you couldn't go in the workshop, but you could see it and get a photo in front of it. If you go, be sure to ask about the Welcome 15 discount that can be used at the Scotsman, The Mercantile, and The Scent Library. You can't use it at the first store, so be sure to go first to the place where you expect to spend the least. I was not told about the discount at any of the stores. I found out about it from my sister in law, who was told by one of the employees. I guess they're supposed to ask everyone. I had spent several hundred dollars at The Scotsman, so I went back and asked if they would refund the discount if I brought my receipt back. They said yes, but then tried to backpedal once I actually produced the receipt. They ended up giving it to me, but I thought that was pretty crappy given all the money they take in, so that's why they got 4 stars...
Read moreI really, really don't want to rate this store this way, but I wish to warn people especially poc. This store was NOT friendly, whatsoever! I don't know if everyone had a bad day or what— but it is unacceptable to give customers glares and dirty looks!!! They looked at us like we were gum on their brand new shoes. I felt so uncomfortable here. This is one of the few stores that I don't recommend to anyone! I've never had to rate any store this low, until this store and another store treated us rudely! The two women there gave me and up and down and glared at me!! I was so embarrassed... No one welcomed us, nor were, they friendly. Not at all! The guy working there also gave my other family members an up and down and dismissed us. I am disappointed in this store and what it has to offer! We were going in there because we love 'HomeTown' so much, but we're met with disappointment. Would not recommend poc to come here! Until they work on the staff and impolite manners, then don't even try. No, we weren't loud. No we didn't talk rudely. I know people will dismiss this cause they claimed they had a "great experience". But not...
