Ohhhh Mimmos - I really wanted to like and love your restaurant! I have an affinity towards Laurel and so desired a fun experience at your restaurant and good food. What I received was so dissatisfying to my expectations!!! We walked in for an early dinner and the place was empty. Just a few people sitting in booths. There were 2 team members whispering at the bar the whole time we were there. Our waitress, God Bless her had zero personality which had me interpreting that she did not want to be there. She would disappear often and talk to one of the cooks by the pizza oven. When I didn’t order a drink or water she looked at me like I had 3 heads. We ordered the knotted garlic bread, a house salad and the spaghetti marinara. My mom is vegan so she asked if there were any other vegetables that could be added to the spaghetti. The only option was spinach. So we tried it. The appetizer was delivered with zero panache. The waitress set a plate of breadsticks in front of us that were soaked in a stick or two of butter. Don’t get this if you are lactose intolerant, you’ll never make it home without a bathroom. The knots were great, just really really rich. I’d prefer more garlic and parm cheese on mine and less butter, but hey - it was a local novelty, so hey - let’s go with it. The salad was put together nicely, nothing special - fancy greens, tomatoes and cucumbers. The house dressing was pinkish/purple. I couldn’t tell what it was and it was so thick it didn’t coat the vegetables. It didn’t taste bad but it definitely didn’t have a rich Italian dressing flavor. And lastly the spaghetti marinara. Oh Mimmos, how can you say you’re from Italy?? Maybe you’re from a different region. We are from Northern Italy and grew up with fresh tomatoes and spicy peppers. Maybe you were out of ingredients when we visited because your red sauce tasted like you opened an old can of Campbells tomato soup. There was no depth or flavor, only the ascidic bite of unripe tomatoes. Ugh!!! How could you serve that! We had to salt and pepper and even put on our monk fruit sweetener to make the sauce palatable. The pasta in itself was cooked well, so once we added the flavors the sauce was missing, the pasta was edible. And lo and behold the spinach was cooked to perfection! When we had finished this lackluster meal we waited for the waitress to stop talking to the pizza cook before we could get our bill. I’m grateful for the cleanish restroom, but even that could have been better. Whoever put a new trash liner in didn’t put the lid on all the way and there was trash on the floor. I’ve heard how the citizens of Laurel are proud to have their downtown area making a comeback. I didn’t get any of that Laurel pride from visiting Mimmos. The best feature in the restaurant is the fountain. So I made a wish that I was going to have better dining experiences during the rest of my vacation. So...

Read moreWorst Italian restaurant we've ever been to, unfortunately. We had very high hopes for this place because it's in Laurel Mississippi. The place where Hometown is shot for HGTV. We loved Laurel and everywhere else we ate or shopped in the town of Laurel, but Mimmo's fell seriously short on the food, the prices they charge and the way it's laid out inside. $22.00 for a small amount of Chicken Piccata that wasn't that good (small breast cut in half and not much pasta nor much of the lemon caper sauce) and that doesn't even come with a small salad. It just ruins your whole experience. Plus, if you want bread, you have to ask for it! The servers don't tell you it's complimentary with your meal if you order a pasta dish. The bread is small toasted rounds with oil for dipping in need of more herbs and some parma cheese. It's not the garlic knots, you have to purchase that bread separately from your meal! There is absolutely nothing that lets you know you won't be getting any bread and dipping oil unless you ask for it. On the other hand, they sure let you know with a little sign on your table that if you pay by credit card you're going to incur a credit card fee charge! Pay with cash, no fee. We'll go back to Laurel in a heartbeat! We just won't be visiting Mimmo's again and DO NOT...
