Do we remember in Back To The Future , when Marty returns to 1985 to find that new people were living in his house, and that Lyon Estates was an inner-city neighborhood? Well…that neighborhood is considerably better than this one. The property picture commonly used on booking sites is taken at night….and this is by designed, seeing it during the day, you would find a front yard that is little more than dry dirt, and a homeless person or two. There is a guardhouse with a guy who ultimately handles check-in. He was angry about something when I got there, and somehow continued the process with me. The place is a defacto homeless shelter. The crowd looks like they may have just gotten out of jail. There are way too many (cheap) bunk beds in the room. No a/c either. There is no one there until 3:00 PM. So when I lost my access code, and was outside, I was out of luck, Despite having paid for two nights, I walked away after the first. Hotels.com called the owner, who asked for proof. Well what would you do in my place? Would you take out a camera, in an enclosed room, full of men who you must ask yourself about their gang affiliation or how long ago they were released from jail? Should I have recorded the guard who snapped at me, at nearly midnight, when it’s a private business that can deny you service? It could have easily turned into having the police show up….and the “crowd” would likely not be happy about letting that happen - given that the police could start asking about names and potential searches. So I asked Hotels.com to have the owner provide his own pictures, given he was so quick to defend his property. Did he do it? Not a chance he was going on there to take pictures of a room full of hormonal 20-something year olds men. “Holmes” would have been “trippin” if he did so, and they would have let him know pretty quick….the owner is likely in a neighborhood far far away, where he doesn’t ever have to think about going to such a...
Read moreThis place was alright until I felt comfortable enough to comment on stuff like the parking system.
No enforcement of their own rules caused me to miss 1 day of work, to come back to the hostel and be told I am banned from the parking for getting upset and complaining.
Mind you, the night before, the security guard (GLEN) asked me what time I was leaving the following morning, I expressed concern about someone parking behind me, which he reassured me he would make sure to put someone leaving the same time I was in that spot.
I woke up in the morning, to find the vehicle I was concerned about parked behind me and was stuck there until just after 11am, when management FINALLY answered their phone, when I needed to leave at 9am, to come back and find out I banned from their parking???
ANYONE who pays for parking here should have a tow truck on speed dial, because they will not help you and will likely ban you for complaining just like they did me.
Their rule being, EVERY vehicle is to have contact information visible on the car so people like myself can reach them on my own to get them to move when need be.
Apparently it is MY responsibility to stay up the whole night to see who ends up parked behind me to make sure they follow the posted rules...?
So, yeah.
THANKS GLEN.
Otherwise, the place is exactly what you would expect for $30 a night.
Basic run down rooms with low quality wiggly bunk beds, cleaning that comes whenever they want?, could be everyday, could be every few days, food / filth / flies everywhere in the common areas cause this place is loaded with smokers and riff raff that couldn't be bothered to pick up after themselves.
100% NOT for a person who is clean, collected, has a purpose / direction in life (job / school / etc) to save some money.
DO NOT be here for more...
Read moreThis is the cheapest hostel in L.A. for a reason. My friend booked it for us with the idea of saving money but it is 100% not worth it. Our Uber driver pulled up and asked if we were really staying here, then told us that if we end up going out later to not go out alone.
We were met at the front by a group of dudes who said the manager was out back in a garage, we walked around and found him in an open garage with a bunch of folding chairs and tables covered with junk food and papers taped to a wall with a zelle code on it. He had us sign wavers/release forms/whatever and we went up to the room. There were literally holes cut into the dry wall to expose wiring/piping and the entire building was generally dirty. The room had 3 of the cheapest bunk best known to man. They shifted around when climbing up and the beds themselves were trash. We spent less than 20 minutes there, and that was just so we could find and book a different room somewhere. Walked out, caught a bus, and 20 minutes later we were in drastically better area for like $30 more than what we paid here.
Seriously, don't waste your money. Chances are you'll just have to spend more on a better...
