One star is too many. Highlights 1.) No hot water 2.) Comically rude desk staff 3.) No little shampoos
The owners obviously do not understand the importance of repeat business, which is what I would have been had the room been even a three star rating.
My business partner, a successful attorney, walked across the street from his new condo to make a reservation for me & my girlfriend. My partner was having a party at his nearby condo and wanted to reserve rooms for guests. The staff was very suspicious of this and it took some doing even to get a reservation made. Ok, I suppose it is odd for a person to walk in an make a reservation for someone else, had this been the only problem I would have forgiven Carlton Motor Lodge.
We arrived. Upon checking in the front desk attendant asked me at least 10 times how many people were staying in the room. The women kept saying, "Only two. You cannot have more than two people in your room. No third person." I had to yell at the lady, I pointed at myself and my girlfriend and said "one two, one two, no more people. Just one two." It was very insulting to be called a liar.
The next morning I woke up to an other customer screaming at the front desk to turn on the hot water. A bit later I jump into my shower to find, you guessed it, ice cold water. I looked around for a shampoo and there were no hotel sized bottles that 99.999% of all hotels provide. I called the front desk over and over and no one answered. So I had to put my clothes on and walk to ask the front desk for a shampoo and hot water. The desk attendant said they do not provide shampoo to customers. So I asked for hot water and the (Indian) front desk attendant just looked away like he didn't understand me. I said, "I need you to turn on my hot water. It is ice cold. There is no hot water in my room." He again just looked away. I said again, "Sir, do you understand that there is no hot water. I need hot water." And then he said, "one minute" got up and WALKED AWAY! You cannot make this stuff up. No hot water was ever provided.
So we didn't shower there. And we...

Read moreThis is probably a 2 1/2 star place, not really "poor", but definitely below "average". In general, it was clean. Sheets and towels were in good condition. But (and I never notice this anywhere else, so it was very apparent) the walls were scuffed a lot and could use a new paint job. The rooms are at ground level, which means bugs have an easy time getting in. I had to kill a cricket, but the night manager was helpful with supplying bug spray and large plastic bags for us to put our suitcases in. (The pest issue is probably the clincher for the 2-dot review.) ||The rooms are small. (The furniture for the fridge and microwave oven occupied the space below the clothes-hanging rack. You could hang a washcloth, but that's about it.)||There were more people just hanging around mid-day than you'd normally see at a hotel. I was with only my daughter. I didn't feel unsafe for us, but it's not really a great choice for a family vacation, even though it is very near Universal...
