Extra Space Storage — Local services in Los Angeles

I open my storage unit in January and used this place because at the time it showed the cheapest prices but what I didn’t know is I have to add insurance and what does the insurance cover probably nothing Now I got in the mail a notice that my storage is going to go for auction because it wasn’t paid for two months, I had my card on Auto pay and made sure the payment would be able to go through, one month it didn’t go through and I payed it right away , I was not told it went off of auto pay the next two month apparently they didn’t charge the card for payment, I was out of the country and I told them I want to be getting emails, they claim they tried calling me number of times and sent me emails number of times that never got to me now so I don’t loose everything I have in storage I had to pay $20 for two months late fees + $140 for pre foreclosure fee I called them the next day after paying (just so I don’t loose it all) and talked with an assistant manager at this location (on McDonald Ave) her name was Maddison I talk to her for 10 minutes max and she said there is nothing she can do I ask to talk to her manager she said she will be in the next day, I called the next day (today) and talked with Alicia for maybe 8 minutes tried figuring with her how come I didn’t get any notices whatsoever no email and why they didn’t charge my card which had available money and when she had a tough time explaining to me why I had to pay this crazy fees she said I’m comfortable answering and hung up the phone on me, when calling Costomer service anyone excepts to get an answer for crazy charges but she wasn’t comfortable telling me why i had all this fees I will never tell anyone to use there storage units and I would tell anyone that is looking for a storage unit not to use this company...

Update : Don’t RENT at Extra Space!

Update: The below review was before I was harassed by the building manager that lives on the premises. I had a lot of reorganising to do from living abroad, years ago and Tom felt it was his duty and entitlement to tell me I was staying to long reorganising my items during “visting hours”! This harassment was not warranted when I was paying Premium rent for years at the Studio City location and was there at visiting hours. Gross treatment I will never patronise this storage company again.

It's the little things that matter to me in having a storage space. At this one the lighting is perfect, for example. It lasts a long time and if it goes out, you just have to wave your hand in the air. It's a clean place, the carts are sturdier than those I've seen at other places, the doors to the units are adequately wide, the floors are polished and the freight elevator is big enough to bring a couple of circus horses into. It's well-tended, has good parking space considering it's in a crowded part of LA, and the management is friendly and helpful. The only thing I might wish could be improved is the height and location of the keypad to let yourself in. You can't use it from the driver's seat of your vehicle, but instead have to get out, punch in your code, then hop back into your car or truck while the gate opens.
