As we pulled up, two of us commented that it looked like an old Motel 6 with a make-over. Still suspect that.
The rooms were new-looking and clean. The staff was nice and helpful. The exercise room had the normal "right" amount of equipment. Everything was just fine except for the thing that was not.
The breezeways you use to get to your room are open to the parking lot. The nearby restaurant and bar draws a crowd. The walls to the breezeway are thin, so you could hear every conversation as people left the restaurant and made their way to their cars - which revved up, chirped, and made door-slamming mandatory.
The walls between rooms is also terribly thin. The first night, I was able to hear full conversations of someone on the phone from both ends - and not on speaker phone. This is over the fan noise in my room. The last night was miserable from people leaving the restaurant waking me every few minutes until at 12:00am. I had made it to sleep because I found myself woken by a noise from the next room. Listening only slightly carefully, I hear Cartman going on about something...probably Kenny being killed. My neighbor decided to watch South Park until about 2:15 or so, and I had to be up at 3:00 to catch the early flight.
Miserable bad experience. They should invest in...
Read moreI'm a contractor who stays all over the bay for business. Usually you have your choice of decent priced hotels with thin walls, "interesting" characters, lack of staff and carpets from 1984, OR an expensive room with a nice stay.
BW in LG is 5* on value. Sure, it's not a luxury hotel or resort. But it is nice. The location is beautiful, quite and safe. The amenities are more than I would expect for the price. Rooms are nice, and staff is stellar. It's a real breakfast, which is rare in this price range, and the owner/manager seems to set the tone for the location's culture.
Every interaction that I've had with her has impressed me. She's professional, but with a big heart and a get-it-done attitude. Very reasonable. If I ever saw an altercation here, I'd assume that the guest was being pretty egregious because any 1/2 way decent request I've seen anyone make here has sparked a genuine effort to accommodate.
If I was here with my wife - instead of for work - I'm confident she'd be very comfortable, and we'd definitely go to the extremely highly rated restaurant onsite as well.
Again, this is not a luxury hotel. But it's punching above it's weight-class. I hope this place...
Read moreThis review is for Grill 57, the restaurant at the Best Western in Los Gatos. Surprisingly good food/restaurant of the beaten path. The restaurant is away from downtown so the parking is good though there are no easily walkable destinations after dinner. I had the jambalaya which was served in a cast iron skillet. The portion was on the smaller side but filling and with quality ingredients. The flavor and texture wasn't what I expected...closer to a paella than a jambalaya maybe? My wife had the seared scallops over gnocchi but she found the scallops a bit bland. Her chicken vegetable soup was flavorful and satisfying though. $70 after tip with no alcohol. The ambience is pleasant and comfortable, not noisy or overly fancy, and there is a significant bar in the corner of the large open room. There is also...
