This place is pretty mediocre across the board. The prices and portions vary so wildly you'd honestly think they are chosen randomly. Also the service is SO UNBELIEVABLY SLOW that you'd be better off ordering your food for pick up, but even if you do prepare for it to be overcooked.
This places charges an absolute eye-watering $6/oyester. I have no idea who they think will pay this. This is crazy even for bay area prices.
Anyways, rant over. The anchovie bread were actually really surprisingly good. Very buttery with a hint of mustard and the anchovies add a nice saltiness. The croquettes were delectable as well.
The main courses were a mixed bag. The halibut I was told was excellent. The pork chops were cooked well, but didn't wow.
The paella was pretty mid and was told "I would give a 2/5. There was no chorizo even though the ,menu said it contained it, the shrimp was rubbery and tough (overcooked) and was way too soupy."
The duck was good as well, but they needed to remake the fish for us because it came out completely well done and had to send it back. Once it came back, I would say the duck was above average, but nothing to wow about. The duck itself didn't really taste seasoned and if you didn't eat it with the topping, it was unremarkable. The skin didn't even taste salted.
The tuna was quite phenomenal. It was cooked perfectly, the rice was good, the saucy had amazing flavor. But it was way too expensive for six slices of tuna and two scoops of rice.
The biggest disappointment was the service. The waiting times were atrocious. For a party of five it took us TWO HOURS from getting seated to paying the bill. it would have been way longer if we ordered desert. It took 30 minutes for appetizers to come out and 45 minutes for entrees, and then another 15 minutes to get a new duck dish.
I would consider coming back if the service was not so...
Read moreI chose to eat here based on the reviews and let me tell you - it was a massive let down. To start: we order the steak, truffle fries, spaghetti, and grilled radicchio. The truffle fries (which tasted frozen, overly salty, and had terrible dips that were overly drippy and kept getting on our shirts and table) arrived BEFORE our drinks even did. We awkwardly ate French fries and sipped water for 10 minutes before we got our drinks, which was bizarre and a terrible way to start a dinner. Following that, the radicchio was overly bitter and impossible to eat in the bowl it was served. We barely picked at it and our waitress didn’t ask how we were doing (or even acknowledge that we hadn’t eaten any of the food or were served fries before anything else). The steak arrived cooked medium (not medium rare, as ordered) after 25 minutes and was lackluster in taste. The spaghetti was the only saving grace to the dinner portion of the meal - though honestly, it was too spicy. We ordered dessert because we wanted to stick around and enjoyed our conversation and got the Chocolate Bomb (which was tasty) and Berry Crumble (which was supposed to arrive with a scoop of icecream and didn’t - when we spoke up about the icecream the crumble had cooled by this point and it was just a glob of cold icecream that made it impossible to eat the crumble). Yeah, a terrible experience. Not once did our waitress acknowledge the poor timing of the food, the fact that my friend didn’t touch her gin and tonic because it was so damn strong, that we barely ate the steak or the radicchio...instead, she chose to pay a ton of attention to the nearby tables. I will not absolutely...
Read moreWe made reservations after hearing there was a new restaurant in town. “In town” is a bit of a stretch as it’s actually located in the parking lot of the Best Western motel away from the downtown area. That was a bit of a turn off. Inside was very nice, and I was glad to see the patrons were mostly dressed for the occasion. We were seated promptly at 7:30. I was dismayed that the table lighting made everyone look like a ghoul. Designers need to check that out before installation. Anyway, we ordered and received our cocktails in a timely fashion. The Bees Knees riff was quite good, but my Mezcal drink was so sour and acidic as to make it unpalatable. We ordered a shared appetizer of pork bites which were dry and just ok. THEN we waited. And waited. We were not actually served dinner until 9pm. My rainbow trout was fine, but the portion was small (and by that time, I was starving) The Argentine steak with Chimichurri was also decent, but did not come with any extra sauce so we had to make do with the tiny drizzle placed on the steak by the chef. It was served with uninspired basic fries and ketchup. The mushroom pasta was probably the best of the three, but again, not amazing. I would have liked to try the bread pudding for dessert but that required an extra 20 minute wait, as did the Molten Cake (I feel the wait staff should make that known earlier in the dining process). We decided to just get our check. The entire experience was over priced and underwhelming. The food was uninspired and the location was a negative. In an area with so many dining choices, I simply won’t be choosing this...
