This hotel is an exquisite example of "you get what you pay for."
I've stayed in $30 / night motels that have looked about 10 times better than this Super 8.
I'm assuming the lowered quality of the property (without a proportionate drop in price) is due to how close it is located to the airport ("location, location, location!" as they say). The $30 / night motels might have had older furniture or appliances, but everything worked, was clean, and was installed properly.
Not so, in this case. All the furniture, flooring, and fixtures looked like they'd come from a garage sale or were salvaged from a condemned hotel that was about to be torn down. Even the pen and notepad that were next to the phone looked like someone had dug them out of the trash after they had been used by several previous guests.
I ended up staying in two different rooms.
I had called previously to ask whether or not the rooms had mini-fridges. I was told that they did. Great! This meant that I could bring things with me that I wanted to keep cool in the Louisville summer heat (candy bars, sodas, etc.) leave them in the fridge.
Yet, when I get to my first room, there's no fridge.
Apparently, it's a gamble as to whether or not you'll get a mini-fridge in your room for some reason. So they would have to play "musical fridges" as guests requested them. This seems highly inefficient compared to simply making sure every room has all the same appliances.
When I asked the front desk about it, they said they would have one brought to my room.
I filled my sink with ice from the ice machine and placed my items in there to keep them cool. I confirmed with the front desk staff that a fridge was to be delivered to my room as I left at around 8:30 a.m. the next morning. They confirmed.
I arrived back at the hotel for the night at about 10:30 p.m. Still no fridge. I'm no maintenance expert, but I've moved many a full-size refrigerator in my life and even that (even with just me and a dolly) does not take more than 13 hours to do.
Their solution? Move me to a room that has a mini-fridge in already.
sigh Fine.
I move to the new room (a roach was crawling on my mattress as I was packing up, which is what every hotel guest loves to see) and it's just as rough-looking as the first one. The sink had low water pressure and no hot water. The light bulb in the desk lamp flickered until it died, so I had to go to the front desk to get that replaced.
But I was in town mainly on business and knew I wouldn't be spending a lot of time in my room. So, for me, this was just a couple of steps shy of acceptable for such a low price. For someone on vacation, the condition of the accommodations might have been grounds for a refund.
The staff was friendly, I got a (clean?) bed, a place to shower, and no one stole my stuff. The basics were covered, I suppose.
But if you're looking for what many people would consider a "standard" hotel room and experience (Holiday Inn Express, Days Inn, etc.), please don't come to this hotel with that expectation. You'll just be setting yourself up for...

The mistake i made was thinking any motel will be just as good as the next. The choices i had were super 8 and red roof inn. I chose the closest one with the least resistance so i made that right err wrong turn to super 8. The check-in was nice enough-quick and painless. Sadly though the issue started as soon as i opened the door to my room - room 137 so be fore-warned when given this room! I'll make it short and won't go into too much of the details. The room smelled like roach spray. The sink/vanity was missing the mirror. The laminate "hardwood" floor was sticky with droplets of white stain by the bed. The bathroom was dirty and looked like they just swept all the dirt into the corner. The wall behind the toilet looked like it had piss stain or something running down it. The door had about a half inch gap on the top that the lights from the hallway was actually lighting my room! (A little exaggeration but...) The one thing that really played with my mind for some reason (probably from watching too much Hotel Impossible) was the deadbolt did not fully engage/shut- it was hitting the edge of the hole. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out what the problem was before giving up. As i sat on the bed (with my boots still on) getting ready to turn in, the image of Anthony (Hotel Impossible) kicking in the door and stressing customer's safety in just about every other episode kept playing in my mind. Somehow the smell in the room got heavier, the floor got stickier and the bathroom got even grosser. I was in the room it seems no longer than 30 minutes when i packed up and went to the front. I calmly and politely asked, "i changed my mind about staying here, do you think its ok if i can get a refund?" The clerk started giving me an attitude about how i could've and should've just turned around and left if i didn't like the room but since i was in there for more than 15 minutes then he can't give me a refund because i stayed there. I told him if he doesn't want to give me a refund then that's fine - I'm still leaving. He asked me what was wrong and i told him. He did offer me another room at a higher price but i figured if they will offer that room to a customer i really don't care to see the other rooms so i just left. Maybe i have been spoiled being fortunate enough to stay at actual hotels so my expectations were too high but now i guess i know what they mean when they say "roach motel". Sorry, i know i said it'd be short but i thought it...
Read moreWithout exaggeration for the last year and a half I spend at least one night a week and usually 3-4 nights in hotels. I usually try and find Wyndham owned establishments if possible because I believe them to be the best kept in the Industry as well as the best customer service hands down. Until last night at the Super 8 on Preston hwy in Louisville! Nasty does not begin to explain. I understand you get what you pay for but I did not know I was paying for bedbugs and nasty customer service. Night shift wasn't bad but day shift was rachet. I asked for the corporate number and was told "We don't have one" . I asked if she owned the hotel and she said "Wyndham" as she rolled her eyes. I said ok well I'm sure I can find a phone number. I was ten Minutes after 11 getting out of the room. Because I was Waiting On my sister in law To pay for the room Online and she was having issues. The cleaning Lady opened My Door Walked inside And began Picking Up My belongings to "help me Out" Totally In shock I told her My Friend Was Helping Me And Had taken a cart full downstairs and would Be back up. And she insisted and picked up all but one item And said "an Older man has been waiting for the cart for thirty minutes and he had the cart now." I was super confused. Especially when I got down stairs and my friend still had the cart with her stuff on it. She hurried and removed her items from The cart and the lady walked away. My friend said "wow she just did all that to make us stand outside with out stuff we should go to a different hotel" that is the point I went inside to ask for corporate phone number and verify the empty cart was in the hallway not being used by any older gentlemen. The attitudes and bugs were disgusting. I Will Not Return to this location ever again. We will stay the other three nights in town up the road with the competition and much friendlier Staff. Not Wyndham standards at all. Even the one coke machine in the whole building was empty and the oj machine not in Service. Breakfast was cereal, waffles, toast or yogurt. No milk for cereal and no juice or anything other than weak coffee to drink. Bring your own drinks and no refrigerator to place them in if you do. I could keep on but I think you get...
