In May 2023 I had stayed one night on the Hampton side of this property. This visit I was staying in town 6 nights, instead of just 1 and wanted a little more space. I chose the Home2 Suites side. Sun 9/24 thru Sat 9/30.||||I was in room 442. The room was spacious, all fixtures worked as expected, the true blackout shades worked great. Appreciated the decent sized refrigerator and freezer for a nearly week-long stay - came in handy for a few essentials and leftovers. The room was clean and had a good start-up supply of 3 sets of towels. The AC worked well, even though I set the fan to High at all times, it wasn’t loud.||||What I did find noisy was when either the HVAC system on the roof or on lower floors cycled on, it created a reverberation or low hum that I found annoying and made it hard to fall asleep – had to use earplugs several days. ||Also noisy was the trash being collected by loud garbage trucks banging around at least 2 mornings between 3:30am and 4:00am. (An odd numbered room facing the bank or Hurstbourne Rd. might have been quieter)||||The carpet was stained in multiple places in my room. I think a deep clean is in order.||||While the room was fine, and let’s face it that’s probably the most important part, the experience in other parts of the hotel weren’t as great. If the hotel can improve these things, they can raise their rating.||||Breakfast – Monday 9/25 and Tuesday 9/26 – absolutely no fresh fruit offered. I stay in Hilton properties across the country multiple times a year; normally you can find bananas or apples – there were none. Also, the only yogurt offered was Trix cereal-flavored. That might have worked for the 6 year olds, but not adults. Luckily by Wednesday morning they had fresh fruit and the typical Yoplait yogurt selections that is more up to the Hilton Standard.||However, each day the toppings containers for the oatmeal and waffles were really gross. They had streak marks and looked and felt dirty. These need to be cleaned daily, if not multiple times during the service.||I did not eat any of the frozen and reheated hot items due to high salt content. I stuck with oatmeal and toast or nothing at all.||Another thing many Hamptons have had in the past, and this Home2 shares with Hampton, was hard boiled eggs. There were none offered any day.||||Public spaces furnishings – I didn’t take time to take a photo, but the fake leather cover/upholstered cushions in the breakfast area along the wall with higher backs was peeling off terribly in many places. Looked very worn and uninviting.||||Workout room – on Sunday there was only 1 treadmill working, the other days it appeared 2 were working, but the 3rd sat there non-functioning with no sign. There was no sanitizing wipes, so all machines were dirty with sweat stains.||||Staffing at the front desk – The only friendly and truly hospitable and helpful clerk was Rachel. She seemed to care when I shared the concern about the breakfast and was willing to check. Other clerks barely spoke a word to me when I requested replacement towels or another Kleenex box. ||When I arrived around 5:30pm on that Sunday night, 9/24, there was a larger family group checking in. I thought I would try using the self-check in from the app and request digital key. It didn’t work, so I stood there for at least 20 minutes while the clerk tried to check the others in. She kept having to go and confirm if rooms were ready. Housekeeping was still there cleaning rooms. (In general I think this place hires only bare bones staffing and doesn’t flex when the property is sold out as it was during my stay – this is a big mistake. They should know when they are going to be booked solid, staff accordingly!)||When I was finally to the desk, I explained that the app said “digital key unavailable” and this was not resolved, just dismissed with a comment “it’s quirky sometimes.” It was my first time to attempt to use it, so I thought maybe I did something wrong, but there was a complete disinterested in trying to help me with that so I just asked for the regular key card. Apparently something was still wrong on Sat 9/30 because when I went to depart the hotel at 4:10am on Sat and the clerk wasn’t at the desk at that moment, the app said “check out unavailable”, so I had to wait a couple minutes until the clerk came back around from a store room. ||||If you are the first face a guest sees, you need to have hospitality skills – other than Rachel, I don’t think the team members really cared about their jobs. If you are a combo hotel with this many hotel rooms, it would be best to always have 2 clerks on staff to provide the level of service that Hilton brand should dictate.||||This would not be my first choice when booking another hotel in Louisville. I was there for work as well as family functions, so that was the main reason for this choice. On future work trips I think I’ll search for something different closer to the...
Read more2 adults stayed 5 nights. The room was great, clean for the most part. Some deep cleaning in corners etc. would be a good idea. Bathroom lighting is way too bright, a dimmer would be terrific, especially for nighttime. The 2 nightlights are near each other with no way to dim them or turn them off. They were too much in a dark room, we taped over them to dim them a bit.
There was no light under the microwave, so the area where the little coffee maker is was in the dark. There is no under counter lighting, just what the microwave is supposed to have. The coffee maker is supposed to be able to brew 2 cups side by side, but didn't work well that way. One cup was too full, the second cup barely half full.
The hotel fire alarm went off at 2:40 a.m. Fridays morning, and was horrible. Not only did the room have the screeching beeping, but a flashing strobe light. As someone who has neurological issues, this was horrible. I could not have stood to leave the building if it had been on fire. I'm not sure if the strobe light was because we were in a hearing disabled room, or if all the rooms have the strobe light attached to the fire alarm, but it was a serious problem for me. I had to cover my head with pillows for the entire 10 minutes the alarm/strobe was going off. Someone with a seizure disorder would have been in a bad way. If there had been a fire, I would have been unable to stand/walk due to the strobing. No one came around to tell us what was going on either.
When we mentioned the fire alarm while checking out, the staff member blamed it on hotel guests not cleaning the lint trap in the clothes dryer. Shouldn't the STAFF be checking that on the regular? That is a huge well known fire hazard. Talking down paying guests should be a no no for any of the staff.
The hot breakfasts were ok, but not great. On the last morning, the sausage gravy had zero sausage and was clumpy and inedible. The hot breakfast sandwiches were hard enough to pound nails and not hot. There was no milk on our last morning either, so cold cereal was out. The waffles are ok, but there is only one waffle iron, which isn't great when there are 20+ people wanting to use it and it takes 4 minutes to bake.
The scrambled "fake" eggs are not great. Watery, and tasteless. One morning there were little omelets with diced ham and veggies. They were great, but we only got them one day out of 5. The cheese omelets weren't very good.
There is no microwave in the breakfast area, so no way to heat up the cold hard "not hot sandwiches."
Overall we like our stay. Maybe have the staff rotate the mattresses, as the side near the night stand was very broken down. We rotated it ourselves. We found the place mostly clean, and any staff we dealt with...
Read moreI picked Home2 because I like that the rooms are equipped with utensils and dinning ware. Not that I use them frequently, but it is nice that they are there, just in case, since I often eat in my room with my girls (pups). To my surprise, my room only had a toaster and a coffee maker. Good thing my best friend got me a set of travel utensils. Good thing that it does have a Bible. Hotels with Bible in the room always makes me feel protected. The room is comfortable. I like the pull out table that I used as my dining table sitting in the couch. Not sure why I didn't think of that before. There are plenty of table surfaces for me to put my things withing having to unpack and use the drawers, and keeping everything off the floor/carpet. The toiletries... all nice size bottles and animal friendly, not tested on animals. Thank you!! There isn't really a need to test in animals for many products we use daily. It's not like they just invented shampoo, etc... i didn't use the shampoo and conditioner. I'm afriad that they might wash my highlights off, lighten it. I brought my own. The body wash and handsoap are great, and smell so nice. This hotel is unique, combined with Hampton Inn. Each hotel has its own side of the building, but the amenities are shared except for the little market, but no one will stop you from shopping in the other. There are plenty of Tesla charging stations, 6 total but 2 charging cable each. What's interesting is that I saw many Gas operated cars parking in these spots. This hotel is dogfriendly, and plenty of grassy area. I walked my dog sound the building which required me to walk around the bank. It's a nice short walk to stretch out the little pups' legs and expand the area where they can smell things, and mark things. Lol I would stay here again. Oh, the door to my hotel room is soft close, but when the door appeared to be closed, it is not fully closed. I had to give it a little push for it to lock. Be sure to check your door after entering...
