Rodeway Inn at Six Flags Over Georgia review (July 9-10, 2024)
Location:
The hotel is located within a 9-minute walk of Six Flags Over Georgia, which was a huge plus for me since I live 5 hours away from the park. After a long day at the park, it was a relief to be able to quickly get back to the hotel, rest up, and be ready to head home the next day.
Amenities:
The hotel advertises free parking, Wi-Fi, a pool (which was out of service and empty during my stay, and other guests have mentioned this issue for over 2 months), and breakfast (which was a major disappointment and a borderline disrespect to guests, as other reviews have also noted). I arrived at 6:30 AM for breakfast, and all that was available was cereal, coffee that was way too strong for my taste, and something they labeled as apple juice. The management is clearly aware of the subpar breakfast, as they don't even bother to remove the chairs from the tables to set up the breakfast area). It's worth noting that several guests have also mentioned a strong odor of marijuana in the lobby area.
Room:
Upon entering the room, the air conditioning was off, and with the outside temperature at 95 degrees Fahrenheit, the room was uncomfortably hot. It's worth noting that the air conditioning did work quickly once I turned it on, and the room cooled down to a comfortable temperature. This issue had also been mentioned by other guests in reviews. The room itself seemed clean upon entering, and the bathroom was clean with fresh towels. However, I later spotted a small cockroach crawling on the wall, indicating a poor pest control system. The beds were very comfortable, and the linens were clean. The room décor was decent and inviting. The room includes a small refrigerator, microwave, and the overall layout was functional.
Staff:
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Both check-in and check-out were quick and easy.
Value for money:
I paid $87.14 (including taxes) for a one-night stay. They have a $50 smoking deposit, which was waived since I don't smoke. For me, the price was reasonable given the convenient location, but not for the lack of amenities they advertise.
Suggestions:
I have a Six Flags membership, so I'll be visiting the park often, but I'm still considering whether I would stay at this hotel again. The hotel displays a plaque in the lobby indicating that it won a Gold Award in 2024, but in my opinion, this award is highly overrated. I would suggest that the hotel management address the issues with the pool, breakfast, the odor of marijuana in the lobby, and improve the pest control system.
Overall:
While the hotel's location is convenient for Six Flags visitors, the lack of working amenities, the subpar breakfast, and the observed pest control issue are factors to consider when making your decision. There are other hotels in the area that may offer a better overall experience for a...
Read moreJust no. Between my husband and myself, we stay in a LOT of hotels both here and abroad, so we've seen some pretty bad places. In all the years we've traveled for pleasure and for work, we've only checked out of a place twice because the conditions were so bad. I've even slept in a hotel in a place so bad I had to barricade myself in, sleep fully-clothed on top of the covers because of sporadic gunfire in the general vicinity of my hotel and I STILL didn't check out and look for better accommodations. So you know the conditions of this hotel had to have been pretty bad for us to have paid in full only to check out and drive several miles up the Interatate to get out of there. DO NOT be fooled by the clean, updated rooms that look like they not only smell nice but at the very least don't smell horrific. Because the one we had did indeed smell horrific. The room looked like they attempted to make it look like the one in the photo; kind of like those inspiration shows on TV where they have a homeowner pick out a room that cost $40,000 to design but give them a $500 budget and art school dropout to make their dream room a reality. Also, there's not so much a bathroom as there is an indoor outhouse - no kidding, our "bathroom" was only separated from the bedroom by a flimsy and semi-functional pocket door, you had to turn sideways to step into said bathroom and at that point you were sandwiched between the toilet and the claustrophobic and dark shower stall, so you'd better have made up your mind your intent before going in, because once you're in, there is no turning around. But the clincher for us was the absofrigginglutely horrific smell (and incredibly strange and unexplainable humidity) in the room. If Godzilla had a fetish for toe jam and kept his in a jar alongside his dust bunny collection, it still would not have smelled this bad. We checked the room for mummified hookers (this was waaaay past fresh dead; we're talking ashes to ashes here), but never located any, so maybe it was just mildew from the humidity or dust from who-knows-what, but any place where you can't imagine touching anything, much less lying down on or gasp! in the bed or where you'd be more dirty AFTER your shower than before (even if you're Mike Rowe) is no place for the living. I don't care if it is just a short walk to Six Flags. Chances are, like us you're going to drive anyway, so why not drive 10 miles further up the Interstate and only pay $20 more a night and sleep more peacefully knowing that 1) nothing's going to crawl on you while you sleep; 2) you won't get Legionnaire's Disease (or maybe something worse); 3) you won't need an old priest and a new priest to get rid of whatever it is lurking around that smells that frigging bad. Stay where you want, but it's not your money you're saving...it could be your...
Read moreDespite correcting the clerk at checkin when he asked if I was staying two nights, (I was only staying one) he failed to change that in his system and I found out later that I was charged for both nights. I called to speak with the manager who wasn't in at the time and clerk said he'd relay my message and have the manager get back with me. He also threw in that they could review video footage and if I had indeed left, they would move forward from there. I let him know that his footage would show that I had only stayed the one night and even offered to provide a receipt from another Choice property showing that I was in another state by that second night. After two business days and no return call, I tried back and the clerk said the manager wasn't in yet but that he had discussed it with him and that I was not entitled to a refund for the second night. I let him know that I understood that it was discussed between the two of them but that I still wanted to speak to the manager directly. Again I was promised a return phone call that never came to light. I called a third time and was told again that the manager was not in...I didn't bother asking for a return call.
This is extremely frustrating! I travel a lot and have worked behind that same counter for ten years checking guests in and out, and appreciated it when guests provided us with the opportunity to fix a problem on the property level. More often than not, guests wait to complain to corporate, never providing the property the opportunity to rectify issues in-house. I have tried three times to address this on a property level so as to avoid a bad review, but being ignored has forced me to write this. Communication with guests at this establishment could definitely stand to improve and in the meantime, I'd like a refund for the night I...
