This hotel should not be a marriott. The vast majority of their amenities aren't available, including the complimentary airport shuttle. Upon our arrival (my mother and I) we were told that the shuttle isn't running and upon our checkout the hotel would call cabs that were paid for by the hotel. My mother had to leave at 4am. She spent 20 minutes calling the front desk with no answer, another 20 minutes at the front desk in person with no one there except a security guard and a supposed manager who ignored her and said they were dealing with an "emergency". When someone finally assisted her, it took another 23 minutes for a cab to arrive and then 5 more minutes of the front desk person finding a voucher for the cab. She arrived to the aiport with only 10 minutes to spare. When I checked out later this morning and asked about this, no apology was offered, rather I was told they were having an emergency, all guests were safe but it was not my business. I pushed back and said my mother was a paying guest and she is my business and I wanted to know what happened that necessitated no employee being available to provide the service they indicated they would upon check in. The woman at the desk continued to say that all guests were safe and it wasn't my business which frankly made me concerned that a larger issue took place that morning that perhaps guests did need to know of. The front desk staff was either agressively rude or pleasant but clearly new and incompetent. Someone provided incorrect information on our length of stay and while working in my room one morning the housekeeping staff walked right in even though we were told they only clean rooms upon request during a stay, which I did not request. Housekeeping informed me that they were told we had checked out and it was only the first morning of our 3 night stay. Windowsills aren't cleaned, there is no place to comfortably work in the room (no office chairs even though the photos indicated there were), the television (which needs to work as that's the only way you can get hotel information on the wifi, dining options, etc) wasn't working and the outside deck furniture was covered in crumbs and dirt with numerous cobwebs clearly looking as if these items had not been cleaned in over a week. The rooms and hallways had a musty odor and while the lobby and bar were clean and updated, the rest of the hotel is clearly old and not being maintained and cleaned as well as the other areas. I had other family staying at the comfort inn next door and for much cheaper they had better rooms, all amenities were working, free breakfast and regular communication that wasn't incorrectly given to them. Clearly the marriott has staffing issues which I can appreciate but if something is regularly not available or being done, address that and give honest information about what your hotel does have so guests can make a truly informed decision about whether to reserve there or somewhere else. I would never stay at this particular marriott again and I would highly encourage everyone to avoid it. A review was also posted on their website and I will be following up directly with...
Read moreCourtyard Madison East was a delightful place for us during our recent trip to the Madison area. In fact, it has been the best spot we've stayed at in the past two months across multiple visits to Mad-Town! We really appreciated the location, which provided easy access to all major highways as well as being an easy couple of minutes away from multiple eateries in the "mall" area. The parking lot was well-lit, and we never felt concerned about the safety of our car.||While this trip did not allow us time, we did pass by the workout area and pool. Both were actively in use and appeared exceptionally well kept.||As were the public areas, our room was immaculate, from the air system filters to the carpet edges & corners, behind the furniture, and all areas in the bathroom. Housekeeping deserves a 6-star rating for their exceptional work! We were in a corner room on the second level with windows facing West and North. Despite being in a busy area, it was surprisingly quiet.||That said, while our room was attractive and pleasant to stay in, it was a bit tight in fit. Our NW corner room was a King bed, which left only about a foot or so of clearance between the bed foot and the couch, as well as the wall to the mattress. Passing those areas was definitely a side-step approach method.||As residents of Northeast Wisconsin, we've noticed that many customer service folks in Madison tend to focus so much on professionalism that they can come across as somewhat stoic and over-serious. However, one of the front desk staff members, whom I hope I’ve remembered correctly—Joshua (?!)— stood head and shoulders above the rest. If local HR is looking to recognize him, they won't have any trouble identifying him.||I passed by his station several times during our stay, and he was consistently greeted everyone with a big smile and an engaging personality. On a couple of occasions, I had the privilege of watching him interact with other guests, and it was clear that being friendly and outgoing was his default setting. ||Courtyard Madison East: DO NOT LOSE THIS GUY! He was a shining ray of sunshine for everyone passing by or in need of assistance! And, Joshua: thanks for asking, and yes . . . the western hat was real (Stetson,...
