Broken Board Coffee — Restaurant in Madison

ALMOST didn't try Broken Board since I had been burned in the past when going to coffee shops in another shop. In the previous shops, you could tell coffee was an afterthought. Just a means to appeal to the crowd already brought in by the real product.

Broken Board Coffee is DOPE. I was straight up flabbergasted. I have not found a better craft coffee shop outside of a BIG city. (Madison is not a big city in this case.) The technical skill behind the coffee and the friendliness of the staff is leagues ahead of other shops around.

Also, they have a rotation on special origin/roasted coffee and espresso that is offered outside of the house blend. I was lucky enought to try a shot of their special China Lao Xu Zhai coffee from Perc. Bruh, some of the best espresso I've ever had. Very bright and fruity with a forward acidity that was quite pleasant. With a temperamental espresso like this, it could be pretty easy to mess up pulling the shot. However, they nailed it (underline, fullstop).

Their tea selection is a little wanting, but they are a coffee shop and cover the basics (e.g. earl grey/London fog, plus other greens, blacks and herbal tisanes). The in-house made masala chai though... So good. I will be going back for more. Anyone got...

I recently visited Broken Board Coffee, and I have to say, it’s the best coffee I've ever had. The pour-over, espresso, and chai were truly exceptional—some of the best I've ever tasted. They offer incredible single-source coffee and chocolate brands that I had never seen before. The chocolate was out of this world!

The employee knowledge was impressive, adding to the overall experience. The shop has a great vibe, wonderful employees, and fabulous decor.

However, it could benefit from more seating. More comfortable and plentiful seating would make it even more conducive to spending time enjoying the incredible coffee, baked goods, chocolate, and atmosphere. I can’t wait until the shop can accommodate more coffee lovers, as I’m excited to bring my friends so we can all experience this...

Highly, highly recommend Broken Board. House made syrups including true vanilla, lavender, cardamom, and honey- I had the cardamom in a cold brew and let me tell you, this flavor changed my life. It tastes exactly like fresh ground cardamom smells! The cold brew itself was excellent as well. Similar to a well brewed tea, it was floral, fruity, and light with ZERO bitterness at all. I also grabbed some whole beans for use at home and the guy working (sorry, I didn't get your name!) recommended us some based on our setup. He showed a care and passion for the craft without being overbearing, which I love. This will probably be our new go to stop for honestly...
