If you want first chair/gondi on powder days, this is the best/closest place to be. I like it better than mammoth mtn inn for a group of people. I booked 17 for a group of friends for this last weekends storm and my rating is primarily based on accessibility to slopes. I am impressed with both the chalet operations and management staff. alexandria helped booking and was so great in general and shout out to the legendary snowcat operator who seemed to never sleep and helped us out with arroval and departure (super critical and awesome!!). this place is such a great experience for anyone who wants a really special cozy mountain adventure with some privacy. we come to mammoth area to ride 100+ days a year and usually dont stay in such a premier location but this was worth the price for a special occasion.
the only suggestions I have are for the owners of 17, as they are all individually owned:
•it needs a boot rack or shelves by the door (inside). serious riders and tons of gear made it a bit messy quickly. especially with the deck being unusable due to high winds and blizzard conditions.
•also admittedly trivial but for the price worth noting- the couch was very uncomfortable and had a weird separation where every time someone sits it slides away lol. kind of annoying but whatever. if I owned it Id upgrade that for sure.
•needs a smart tv so we can watch youtube videos or movies. we rode all day so it didnt matter muchto us but it is very limited entertainment wise/old school with no way to watch anything (i dont even know where to get a dvd or vhs which is actually advertised😆). if you have kids or have people who dont ride the entire day would be good to have. **edit: since there was only basic channels we did watch the non-critically acclaimed hit movie “White Chicks” which was so funny I dont know how I slept on that one.
•the kitchen needs more bowls and pots for cooking and eating. we cooked a lot and it was a bit limiting for our group. we had an amazing home made soup one night but had to eat in shifts from super shallow bowls. hungry men who rode hard all day and little bowls…it was actually hilarious how many helpings they each had.
would definitely book a chalet again for the location but would probable not book 17 for these small...
Read moreThis was our fourth stay here in chalet 2. We chose to come back here every time because of the convenience of slope side lodging that allows us to bring our small dog along with the overall rustic charm of the cabin and surrounding area.|| However, this last stay was overwhelmingly disappointing due to rude service from management and chalet cleanliness. The odor of animal urine in the chalet was so strong it was almost unbearable. We aired out the cabin every day during our 4 night stay and even bought a can of deodorizer to try and get the smell out but it never went away. We tried to find someone at the office to explain the situation and express that the carpets and upholstered furniture needed professional cleaning due to the smell and also, to make sure they knew this smell was upon check in and not from our pet. || No one was at the office and a sign said to call and leave a message which I did. When I got a call back, they said it had been weeks since a guest stayed there with a pet…? I guess she was implying there would be no reason for it to smell? The only other comment she added was that they would “look into it” after we checked out. I was so furious at how unapologetic and thankless she was on the phone aside from not even trying to accommodate us in any way to try and alleviate it, especially being repeat customers. || I want to stress that we were fully aware this being a pet friendly cabin that it wouldn’t be as upscale or as tip top shape as some other other chalets that do not allow pets. However, the smell and general cleanliness of the chalet was so subpar compared to any other time we stayed there that we just couldn’t let it go. If we could have left early we would have but since we had to pay in full long before our arrival date, there wasn’t much of choice. || We will never come back to stay here again because of our experience. I will say on a positive note, the snowcat driver was super helpful...
Read moreWe were staying at Chalet 11 this winter, We have stayed at about 4 of these Chalets over the years. The location is excellent as you can pretty much ski in and out from the roadrunner trail. You have views on the mountain from the kitchen and living room. Chalet 11 is a 3 bedroom Chalet in which we stayed with 7 people and our dog. The staff is helpful, great Wifi, plenty of fire wood, small but functional kitchen, however, there are problems in this chalet needs some serious attention. There are not enough chairs for everyone to sit on. Some of the wood dining chairs are a hazard as they are unstable and need to be repaired or replaced. The ceiling fan in the living room is missing a blade and air circulation within the unit is terrible. In order for the upstairs bedroom to be comfortable we needed to make the downstairs bedrooms super hot. Despite rising hot air, go figure... The couches in this Chalet are absolutely horrible to sit on. Also, and this seems to be a theme in all the Mammoth Mountain Chalets we have stayed in, but this one was particularly bad: there are not nearly enough hooks in the unit to hang ski clothes in the unit. The downstairs bathroom has no hooks whatsoever and the shower head is installed at a perfect height for people who are about 4 feet tall. The guest experience in this Chalet could be so much better with a little attention from management...
