This hotel has some very questionable employees. Many of which I learned from eating breakfast next door at a restaurant live there also. The waitresses had no problem telling me how they have had several drug problems at this hotel and the employees that lived there are all known drug addicts. She told me I should not be staying at this hotel alone with a baby. And that Is why I’m writhing this review. Hopefully maybe it will save another mother the fear and trouble i had while visiting there. The room wasn’t cleaned prior to arriving. This was apparent due to the hair ties left on the far side of the bed. The hair in the sink that was backing up into the sink. The bathroom had shampoo and conditioner but they were both empty. The phone in the room didn’t work correctly, when my husband called I could only hear a constant low tone and he couldn’t hear me at all. This was after two attempts to reach me. The room did not have one USB plug in for any of our electronic devices. Which is why my husband who is an over the road truck driver had to call the room to reach me. The suite reserved was in a strange location in this hotel and when I was unable to find the room myself I went back to the front desk to ask the attendant where it was, the women working was too busy arguing loudly with her husband to answer me. After the mage was done shouting at her husband (thankfully in another language so my child didn’t understand) she pulled out a map and pointed to the room number. I explained I was holding my baby, carrying a heavy bag as well as my baby’s pack and play. The hotel also said they had cribs available upon request, however they didn’t. Before I arrived I called the hotel, I asked about a crib or a pack and play, a very rude women said “nope” and the call was ended before I could inquire about a refund. The hotel not having a crib forced me to turn around and drive back an hour and a half to get mine from home. Also, the bed felt like it was springs and no padding. It was extremely loud and even more uncomfortable. I ended up having to sleep on the couch in our room. The couch was comfortable. The mini fridge was broken and didn’t keep temperature at all. When we woke up in the morning my babies milk had already spoiled from not being kept cold. Also, in the middle of the night my baby woke me up crying due to loud screaming coming from under our rooms window. When I looked out the window there were about 4-5 men loudly talking and play fighting outside this went on for over 30 mins. It was so loud that I could hear verbatim every word they...
Read moreFirst, let me say how wonderful the front desk staff was. They did the best they could and were kind and accommodating. However, housekeeping was a HUGE issue at this hotel. The first room we were assigned seemed fine at first, but then as we started to settle in, we noticed the bedside tables were sticky. I was going to just wipe them down myself, but then we realized there were no pillows on the bed and no towels in the bathroom, so it was clear housekeeping hadn’t actually finished with the room. So, we called down to the front desk who was very apologetic and quickly moved us to another room. This room also seemed fine at first glance, but again we started to notice issues as we settled in. One of the pillows on the bed didn’t have a pillowcase and there was a giant brown stain on the covers at the bottom of the bed and a smaller one on the sheets at the top. Everything else seemed okay, so I walked down to the front desk to see if we could simply get a pillowcase and different bedding to put on ourselves (at this point it was after midnight and we just wanted to go to sleep.) The front desk had a pillowcase, but there was no clean bedding. At my suggestion, we simply went and pulled the bedding from the previous room we had been in since it at least appeared clean, the rest of the room just wasn’t finished. After we finished remaking the bed in the new room ourselves, my husband went in the bathroom to discover there was no toilet paper whatsoever, not even a partial roll. I went over to the phone to call the front desk, and that’s when I discovered someone’s press on fingernail in the floor by the desk and popcorn ground into the carpet. At this point, I was really too tired to care, and simply informed the front desk of the additional cleanliness issues and requested toilet paper. The front desk brought it up and apologized again and would have moved us again, but it was clear that a clean, fully put-together room simply did not exist at this hotel. I wiped everything down myself with wipes I had in my toiletries bag and we went to sleep. Choice Hotels absolutely owes me a refund of the $159 dollars I paid for a single night at this hotel. The story of our stay there was so bad it’s almost comical, and it certainly was not worth what I was forced...
Read moreUpdate: After responding to the survey the hotel sent, I was contacted by someone that said they were the Assistant Manager of this hotel. They stated they were sorry for my experience, they looked into my concerns and fixed the issues I noted, and would credit points to my account.
When a week has passed without any points showing up, I reached out to Customer Service, not because I cared about the points but it was one more method of disappointment. Warren responded to me the next day asking for more info. I provided it and within a few hours Alfredo replied and points were added to my account.
I'm still ambivalent about this particular hotel but I'm pleased that the chain itself appears to care about its customers.
Original review: Pros: staff was nice, breakfast was decent, and there were no bed bugs.
Cons: literally everything else. I was prepared for a smoking room even though I'm not a smoker. However, the insane price gouging for the eclipse meant that what could have been an adequate $70 room had me paying $300 for: -a bed that was smaller than the headboard and barely fit 2 adults -a bathroom that hasn't been deep cleaned in a decade -a hair dryer that didn't work -carpet that had stains and ground in dirt -cigarette burns including holes in the covers -and worst of all, for my family of 4, we had 2 bath towels.
When I asked for another towel, I was told they didn't have any more!! They "never expected this many people". Hah! This particular location has been sold out for over 3 months. Every news agency has predicted crazy amounts of people in Carbondale/Marion. The only way you wouldn't have expected these crowds is if you stuck your head in the ground and didn't care to think ahead
Again, all the staff was nice and helpful as much as possible. It's the management and their apparent indifference to anticipating needs and price gouging tactics that leaves a lot...
