Mattress shopping is weird. You drive around and look at the giant empty mattress showrooms in shopping malls and think, "how can they afford the rent when nobody's in here buying anything?" Then you go in and see workers that barely know what they're selling and act like they want you to get out the door with one of their overpriced rectangles as fast as possible.

So I consider myself lucky to have looked around on Google Maps for long enough to find Direct Outlet. Yeah, it wasn't in a prime location. And I had to sign up for an appointment, which is kinda odd. But the small hassle was totally worth it.

The appointment was for a consultation with Nick, the mattress guy, who seemed to have memorized the fine details of all of the mattresses he sells. He asked a lot of questions and tried to find a personalized best fit for my preferences, and I never felt like I was pushed to just buy the most expensive mattress.

Speaking of the mattresses, I'd never heard of any of the mattress brands before, but I googled them later and they all had the same general vibe - small manufacturers that focused on quality over quantity. You might think that this meant that the price would have been higher, to make up for the quality difference, but it was actually way cheaper because of the wholesale prices that Direct Outlet offered. And Nick did same-day delivery (he literally arrived at our house 2 minutes after we did), so it was super convenient.

This is probably the highest point in my mattress purchasing career. It's all downhill from here. My only regret is that the mattress I got has a 10 year warranty, so I have to wait at least that long before I can buy another one from...
