Staff here are very friendly and intuitive with how to answer questions and provide support for a person based on age, skill and strength. Plus, they make the experience pleasant and safe with good conversation and their rational calm demeanor. And, most with a memory to recognize and welcome the return of familiar faces & even some names or professional titles to give members a since of belonging and familiarity tightening the bond for good personal experience. I personally must say I enjoy catching up with one particular gent with the gray beard in his prime as I am to be one I’ve seen show the signs of a true professional in my site first hand to handle an issues that may have become less than desirable to stir up a nasty situation if not diffused and redirected to be resolved calmly and rationally even though he was very obviously being treated bad by a guy who stumbled in with some dillusional nonsense trying to sneak in without a membership then threaten him for no apparent reason. All while we were having a conversation with no idea (well…under the influence of something) why the guy would accuse both of us as old dudes keeping him down when he could beat us both to get around. Then, he left. And, he returned and tossed a PAYDAY candy bar behind the desk and mumbled threatening words that could have provoked physical trouble as he was instigating the situation but all remained calm as police were called at first opportunity to make the call without being noticeably obvious to the man. The guy was removed quickly with fast police response getting 3 nice officers to escort the guy off the grounds and no words were used to return the man’s name calling and inappropriate behavior to keep it from being an escalated dangerous situation. It was an unfortunate situation but one worth mentioning to say the demeanor of the employees makes a world of difference and response time of law enforcement being rapid as a Jack rabbit to find exactly how to see a safe environment made in a day when this could have been handled less than perfect and seen a different outcome. It’s that level of safety I felt that gave me comfort to feel secure and share with anyone concerned about the 24 hour open door hours to say they are manned and protected where as competitors are not as they provide access keys and no staff with greater chance of late night danger igniting with no safety protocols to protect those who are working out at hours this incident occurred which I believe was beyween 2:30AM and 4AM to see the safest way to prevent any possible violence and harm is to have a level headed employee and fast responding CMPD on the scene to ensure all will be fine. Rather than confronting or taking offense to one’s behavior, bad actions and name calling, I witnessed a true solid stand to remain calm and take action in more productive ways to improve the environment for all without any kind of conflict or violence in the time it could have easily been escalated to such a degree. Kudos to PF for having great folks like this to do more than just check in members but clean the locker and restroom areas, keep trouble at bay, answer questions about equipment or black card member use of the machines, booths, beds and loungers that make the upgrade even more of a worthwhile investment to be a valuable benefit that all...
Read moreFreedom Drive is my home club. I have been a black card member for a month and usually visit a club, not necessarily this one, 4 times per week to allow for one day of rest between sessions.
As I am a traveler, I had the opportunity to visit multiple clubs. I think I have visited at least 7 of them now and possibly more.
I usually choose to go to Freedom whenever I am in Charlotte. I tend to go during off-peak hours deep at night, but I also witnessed it during the evening rush.
There is one club I prefer to avoid (I will write about it to the franchise operations office rather than here), but I really like the rest. For that reason, my reviews are 5 stars. They all have their own minor quirks.
First of all, parking is easy. The only store of meaning near it is Dollar Tree and it doesn't fill up the large parking lot. By the way, that Dollar Tree has a pack of ice cream in its freezer section that includes two cones and tastes delicious. It also stocks sports drinks and $1 phone chargers. ;)
While every location has massage chairs, this one also has hydromassage beds and tanning rooms and the red light room.
The hydromassage bed can be adjusted. It's setup to only work in 5 minute increments but its presets assume longer time periods, which results in a monotonous massage unless you are like me and can reprogram it in a few seconds. Other locations sometimes have them setup correctly.
Showers do not maintain constant temperature if you like to take a long one, but the stalls are lit internally. Some other locations have more consistent showers but no direct lighting.
Equipment is very good and in top condition. Nothing is broken or ripped whenever I come. This is not always true for other locations. Planet Fitness has multiple models of treadmills deployed in its locations. This one has the more advanced model. I enjoy using it because I can configure it to do interesting things. For example, try the personal trainer mode and match it to your heart rate.
Speaking of equipment, Planet Fitness has a 30-minute workout zone and each location is slightly different. I feel this location has the best mix for me. Some other locations have a different abs machine in position 20 and I don't like it as much as I do the one here.
This location does not have a 30-sec timer light in its stretch zone like some other locations. I miss it, so I will find a similar app. :)
Working out off-peak has its perks. I can request longer times on the bed, for example. I also have all equipment available to me.
Lastly, if you get annoyed with bank draft billing, there is a somewhat hidden option to pay by credit card in your online account where it says it's impossible. I prepaid a few months because I prefer to not have a checking account linked like that.
Unlike many gyms, including national chains, Planet Fitness locations do not smell like a gym. This particular location features two helicopter sized ceiling fans. They work very well!

Read moreGood morning, I am taking the time to address an issue I encountered
with planet fitness general manager, Rodney. I use to enjoy working out at
planet fitness. As an avid fitness professional I find my facility crucial for
my strength training, especially because I spend a great deal of my time
at your gym. Since being a member of planet fitness over a year, I never
missed a payment, I always shook the General manager hand Rodney,
and obeyed the rules. Rules that were pointed out to me when I joined
your gymnasium, planet fitness at freedom drive. On April 15, 2019
around 6 P.M. I was humiliated when an employee of planet fitness at
freedom drive belittle me. Rodney, the general manager approached me
in the middle of my exercise, Rodney stopped me from working out, and
proceeded to yell at me as if I were not a member, but a child needing
discipline. Rodney’s unprofessional ability to communicate had dismayed
me from my routine yesterday and ever coming back. He took away the
joy I use to have entering the doors of planet fitness, prior to leaving I
looked around at the individuals working out beside me, and throughout
the facility to have witness. Because Rodney projected his voice
extremely loud (In a derogatory tone), the member’s facial expressions of
disbelief around me visually burnt a mortifying experience into my
memory. Planet fitness general manager, Rodney Jeffries lack’s the
professionalism it takes to properly have adequate communication skills.
He and his representation of planet fitness will never have the privilege to
call me nor my family member’s, a member of planet fitness again. This
incident which could have been dealt with differently was due to me
setting up a decline bench, from 2 separate benches. I have adjusted
these benches on numerous occasions; planet fitness staff has made eye
contact and been aware of what I do, I never was approached about it. I
took the opportunity today to obtain planet fitness handbook/ rule book, I
refreshed my awareness on their policy, surprisingly the handbook does
not address the nature of me altering the benches. My question to you,
why was I humiliated? How is communication skills taught? Who is
responsible for the training of the rest of the staff, the general manager? I
do seek justice for what has happened to me and I will not allow this
behavior to be swept under the rug, I am sending this message to the
following channels, Mr. Todd, Mr. Rodney, and corporate. I am sure you
have security cameras, and are easily accessible, this way you may see
the vile disgusting behavior I received as a loyal customer. I am
requesting a follow up from this injustice, malicious behavior. I will be
tagging all social media on my e-mail, including web search reviews, and
will be informing all my colleagues including my...
