The Bay Course used to be our favorite place to play on Maui. It was a highlight every year, and one of the best things to look forward to. After the recent change, however, I am very, very, very sad to say that we may not be back again. What a disappointment : ( 1. We tried to get a drink to go at the restaurant attached to the clubhouse: NOPE. Their liquor license doesn't allow them to serve drinks that leave the premises. We were briefly consoled when they told us we could get a drinks and food after the 3rd hole. 2. when we got to the station, the service person told us they close at 4 so she wouldn't be open by the time we got back around. Then she couldn't pour our drinks because their liquor license is retail only. 3. BATHROOMS! Goodness.........with the restructure of hole numbering, the bathrooms are in super weird locations. Who needs a bathroom on the 18th hole?! 4. There is no turn. Makes for a super awkward flow. 9 and 10 are right next to each other far away from the clubhouse. 4. I'll admit this could be because I loved the old layout so much, but the new layout feels completely forced. It doesn't feel natural or fluid. The start is awkward and the finish hole is such a huge let down. Why not just swap 1-9 and 10-18, and have players drive a little farther to start off? With all of the beautiful scenery on this course, there are to many picturesque holes to end on the one with a torn up net/road barrier, with no scenery and no majesty. At least before, 18 was a big hole with a decent view that ended at the clubhouse, and it made sense. Now none of it makes sense. No service cart?!?!?! We are so utterly disappointed. It's like the loss of a great friend. Kapalua Bay Course, DO SOMETHING. Use better signage, get a beverage cart out there for your customers - we pay a fair amount to play there, there should be amenities. (I paid $40 at Maui Nui and was served by a beverage cart.......3 times....... ) Get the liquor license situation figured out. Or don't do anything, and be satisfied with giving a substandard experience. You're better than...
Read moreWe planned for 1 year to go play this course. Our foursome teed off at 10:30 for what we hoped we be an experience of a life time. Unfortunately the service there was deplorable. We played 18 holes without ever having the opportunity to get any food or even a bottle of water. There was no beverage cart, and no one manning the beverage stand both times we went through the tunnel. After about the 10 hole we called the club house as well as spoke to 3 different marshals on the course. Their answer to our needs was to else us they were slow so they let them go home....? I would think paying the premium prices they charge would allow for the "slow" days they might have to be able to afford service staff. I flew 2500 miles to stay 2 days in Maui just to golf there. I can tell you I have spent 20.00 at a municipal course and had the best customer service you could ever hope for...let it be known that after about our 5th complaint the marshal on the course gave us permission to take the golf carts to the local grocery store to get some water and food, and that we wouldn't be in trouble for slowing the pace of play....has anyone ever heard of such a thing? We asked at one point if someone could just bring some hot dogs out, however their answer to that was, they didn't have any hot dog wrappers left...lol...There are so many great places to golf on Maui. Don't waste your money there! Just my warning!! With clubs, I paid 286.00 for the worst golf experience...
Read moreDisappointing Experience Despite High Expectations This round of golf was one of the experiences we were most looking forward to on our honeymoon — especially since it was my first time playing in Hawaii. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the more underwhelming parts of our trip.
While we expected a premium price for a course of this reputation, we were genuinely surprised by the overall condition. The course was noticeably dry and worn, with several greens showing clear signs of construction damage. Many of the cart paths were closed due to ongoing work, which made navigation clunky and disrupted the overall flow of play.
Although the ocean views were beautiful when they appeared, only two holes were actually on the water — a short par 4 and a par 3 — which felt a bit misleading based on the way the course is often advertised. We expected more coastal play and a greater sense of “wow” from the layout.
The overall management also seemed lacking. There was only one mid-course stop for snacks and drinks, and no roaming beverage cart in sight — something you’d expect from a course at this price point. Even the golf cart itself was disappointing, with ripped, dirty seats and no clear way to connect Bluetooth for music.
All in all, the experience didn’t meet expectations, and we left feeling let down. While we wanted this to be a highlight of our honeymoon, we likely wouldn’t return based...
