We just got back from Maui. We discovered that the menu had changed in this restaurant for the worse. It now has a limited menu - $25 burgers!, and they are using plastic utensils and paper products, plastic cups. We were disappointed that the amazing menu of the prior restaurant was gone. We decided to stay, as we had already walked down the long path to the restaurant. That's when the horrible experience began!
There are lots of birds at this restaurant - very fat pigeons that walk around basically begging for food. They go under the tables while you are eating, and just generally are a pain in the neck. The restaurant service people let people feed them, which makes more of a problem. If food is not taken off the table immediately when people get up, the pigeons are up walking around on the tables, which is for sure not sanitary for the next person sitting down.
So, our experience. I got up to go to the bathroom, and while I was gone, six pigeons hatched a plan, and landed in unison on top of our small two person table. My husband said it was horrifying! He started shaking the table to try to get them off, things on the table flying, water spilling. The manager came over to talk to him. She stayed and talked to us a while, very apologetic. She asked if we were staying at the hotel. The correct thing to have done was to at least offer no charge for our meals. She acknowledged the bird problem.
Ritz Carlton, shame on you! You expect a certain standard of service, and it makes no difference if I am coming for a lunch at a very pretty place and staying elsewhere, or if I am staying at the hotel. It is unacceptable to know that you have a problem with aggressive birds, and you don't take care of the problem immediately.
Needless to say, never going back there. It's really a shame, because this was a very nice restaurant with very good food before the...
Read moreNever eaten a burger with a better view! This spot is right on the ocean with stunning views of the water and islands. Burgers are huge so come with an appetite or split a burger with a friend. They were nice enough to cut our burger in half and even had the option of choosing two different sides ($3-ish extra charge for splitting). Fries were thick and crispy and the side salad was refreshing and a good portion. We ordered the Double Decker Burger which was super tall and juicy but really messy which wasn’t a problem for me but wouldn’t recommend on a first date… also tried the Oreo Cookie shake which was delicious and just what we expected. Someone in our group ordered the Hula Girl shake and said it tasted very tropical and came with an Almond Joy on top. We wanted to try the Royal Kona (coffee and chocolate chip cookie) shake but they ran out by the time we ordered (2:00pm on a Monday). Make a day of it by bringing beach chairs/snorkel gear and head to the water just below the restaurant after eating! It’s a pretty far walk from the Ritz Carlton, with walking shoes, it might be worth checking out the beautiful hotel up the hill. Our party of 6 plus a toddler was able to sit at a big table together and they brought out a high chair. Chickens and birds were running around everywhere which was great entertainment, especially for the toddler. Parking lot was pretty full, but we were able to find a spot quickly and QR code payment was easy. Great burgers, great location,...
Read moreIve been on island since the 90s and have always enjoyed finding beautiful places to eat. You absolutely cannot beat the views! This place was built before the Maui "set-back" laws, so your sitting right above the beach! Just amazing!! The menu is small which makes it a good thing. All the burger beef is from upcountry Maui. Grass fed, open grazing happy cows. Burgers are so juicy and big. They offer sweet potato fries and make their own ketchup in house which is just an awesome addition to your meal. They open at 11 and tend to fill up quickly by 12. You may find a short wait but it will be totally worth it. Its a small kitchen so food can and does take longer than other places when their busy, but the view and atmosphere makes the time fly. They shakes are all made to order with REAL local ice cream and will be the best you've ever had. Promise! This is part of the Ritz-carlton but is SUPER laid back. To top everything off, the servers are obviously very happy to be working there. All smiling, some singing, happy to be your verbal tour guide with questions you might have about Maui. If you decide to have some lunch here, i guarantee it will be a highlight to your trip and the pictures you take will surely make your friends back home jealous! Locals get discount with Hawaii ID (no McLovin) and between 3-4 the classic D.T. Burger is half-off along with a few bar drinks/beer. Ask for Ken. He is the one with...
