I am always on the look for some real good acai bowls, and I was excited to come to Hawaii because I thought that they would have some solid acai bowls. However, that isn't the case with this place.
I can eat an acai bowl any time of the day, at any time even if I am not hungry because I love them so much. We actually just went to a chocolate tour nearby and as I was looking in the area for some acai, this place looked the best and I wanted to try it out.
I really wish I loved the açai bowl as much as the cool art on the outside of the truck. I was just not a fan at all of the açaí itself. I don't really get how people enjoy it because the actual açaí, the base and star of the whole dish was kind of disgusting. First, it's so waterered down and so liquidy, and that bothers me because I like it when the consistency resembles more of a sorbet or ice cream. It's more enjoyable when it's like that, and I feel like it's more refreshing. Second, I can't get over the taste of the açaí. It really only tasted like apple juice or cranberry juice. It was just so overpowering that I couldn't taste anything but this unsatisfying sour and citrusy flavor. The one thing I really liked about the bowl though, were the toppings. I don't think I have ever had crunchier granola, or more flakey coconut flakes. I also got cacao nibs in my bowl, and those really packed some nice texture and flavors. The toppinga were just so good, even the fruit were very fresh and juicy. The star of the whole dish were the toppings instead of the acai, but I still can't get over mostly the taste, and the consistency. This place doesn't really offer "real açaí," but if you like your's waterered down, and citrusy, then I guess you should try this place out.
Overall, very disappointing, I really expected better, and I have NEVER had an açaí bowl where I couldn't even finish it, and that is all because of the taste. Then again, the toppings were amazing, and if the açaí had a thicker consistency and more pure açaí taste then this ppace would easily be one of...
Read moreGreat tasting bowl and they were generous with the granola, but my son said the peanut butter add-on was too little; maybe the ratio was off because we ordered a large? The açaí itself was slightly on the runny side, but other than that a solid bowl. Mildly annoyed that the prices on their website were outdated, so posting a current menu here.
Staff is friendly and pretty quick; I always appreciate an acknowledgment even if they can’t help me right away.
They are located in the paid lot at DT Flemings Beach and there was person monitoring the day we went. I suggest flagging them down and checking if it’s okay to park without paying if you are only there to order food and not going...
Read moreGreat local spot for a really great acai bowl. My husband and I find acai whenever we travel and we loved how Baya tops her bowls with homemade toasted coconut, bananas, strawberries and granola. Additional toppings are only. $.50 so you can easily make it your own and load it up. Most places don't have additional fruit. The quality of her fruit / toppings is better than some of the others we found. Plus there's something about supporting a one-woman business and knowing she's making everything! There were other small local food trucks in the same parking lot that were cool too. Worth going!...
