Read moreFirst off, the service was no doubt top notch. Two stars ONLY because of the workers.
Front desk was very helpful and accommodating. We had an issue with our smoke detector beeping in the room so we received an immediate upgrade. Sweet! ($81 for the night was about the best price we could find for a Friday night in Detroit).
Aaaannnddd that's where it ends.
Rooms are decently spacious but walls/ceilings are so thin. No late night noise ordinance enforced - kids friggin screaming up and down the hallways at 2am.
Hallways themselves were dirty. While the hotel itself is "under construction" and that's understandable - a vacuum wouldn't kill to be used on carpet hallways. Also, many doors were open for the rooms under construction - strange.
Breakfast wasn't at all good. It was just downright lame. No milk. Only cheerios for cereal and english muffins with jam. Not even fruit available. We just decided to go to Tim hortons because calling that breakfast was unacceptable.
The pool area is not well ventilated. Everything is wet. The sides, the carpet, the indoor furniture. The corner of the carpet had mold. The pool itself is cold and could be warmer for sure. It's also very chemical filled - to be expected but this pool in particular seemed to just be additionally chemically treated. The pool area had food and was there was no trash can when we arrived. The sitting area was also dirty. The bathroom door in the pool area doesn't shut. I have been to worse pools, so I would give this one about a three star.
Here is my one and biggest caveat when I go to a hotel. ANY hotel. How am I gonna sleep?
Not only did this hotel fail in this regard, it did so miserably. The beds are almost on the cheapest plastic legs I've ever seen. They slide around. The beds themselves are also caved near the center. The pillows were NOT supportive. Nope. Not good. I know we have a memory foam (Nectar) at home so we are spoiled, but holy crap. These were hands down the worst beds I've ever slept on in a hotel. I'm still sore.
The service was great. The hotel experience was not. I really did want to review with a higher rating but I just can't. I would say until they do MAJOR renovation and put some more money into this one, avoid for now.
Edit: I'll switch this to a four star ONLY because the owner explained to me that they just bought it and are in renovation with it. It's never fun to receive low star reviews as a business wonder and I understand that. Given time, I have hopes this hotel has a bright future - their staff certainly shines with sincerity...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel this past Saturday to Monday. When we checked in the room was cold. When it was time to sleep the room was hot. A/c stopped working. The bed also sat three inches off the floor. We were on a birthday fishing trip and drove all the way from Green Bay, WI. When we checked in it was late. After a 7.5 hour drive all we wanted to do was eat a bit and sleep. Bags were unpacked and jewelry was taken off. A bracelet had fallen off the table and we over looked it. I gathered what I thought was all the jewelry, boxed it up and placed it in our luggage Sunday morning before we left for that day, hung the "do not disturb" (I don't remember what it actually said)sign on the door. We got back into the room late Sunday night. Check out time came Monday and we packed to move on. Tuesday morning is when we realized that a bracelet was not in the box. Mind you we all ready checked out of that hotel. The bracelet would have been in the same spot it fell. I understand the hotel is not responsible for lost, damaged and so they say left behind items. One would hope a courtesy call would have been made to let us or others know. Especially with certain items. Nope. I called the hotel by noon Tuesday and asked about it. Front desk worker told me both manager and the housekeeper happen to be off and nothing was brought to the front. She took my info so the manager could contact me back. I ended up calling the Red Roof Inn Corporate Office about this. Upon looking into my situation, I received an email stated that they are not responsible.
Basically the housekeeper is able to pocket any and everything left behind no matter what it may be!?!?!?!?!?
And don't get me started on $100 fee. We paid and had the reservation and when it came time to check in, we were told there was this additional fee to be paid before getting our key. Now this fee was to be paid and said to be deposited back into our account 5-7 business days. This fee was to make sure we did no damage. Ridiculous. I want to know why we, and other people that reserve a room, couldn't receive a courtesy call especially if items left were/are with it???????? It has been almost 24 hours since I called the hotel and left my information. No call...
