My husband and I have been Westgate owners for more than 3 years. We’ve been to a few of the properties at this point. Painted Mountain Resort in Mesa, AZ was not only the most disappointing experience we’ve had at a Westgate but also in overall travel (which we do about half the year).
For starters, there is no one to help take bags to your room which wouldn’t be a problem except there is no elevator and it’s been 115 degrees this week. The room was clean and esthetically pleasing, but the walls are so thin we could hear the conversations of everyone around us so we were often turning our TV up just to hear it.
It was very disappointing to see there is no poolside bar, but even worse there is a no food, no drink, no cooler rule (which was highly enforced) so people were forced to sit outside in 110-115 weather without a cold drink. The pavement is so hot, to walk outside of the pool area every time one needs to take a drink is completely unreasonable. Oh and did I mention there were 2-3 umbrellas for the entire pool area so guests are forced to roast in the 12 UV rays with no drinks. It was miserable. There were advertisements for a Fourth of July celebration at the pool area where there would be slushees and other fun activities. The event was cancelled and no one was notified. Many kids were at the pool waiting for the event and when my husband asked if it would be rescheduled the front desk simply stated, “no”.
My husband and I were staying here for our 20th wedding anniversary so we were trying to make the best of it. We decided we’d just go to the pool area at night to avoid sunburn and dehydration. We wanted to play cornhole one evening and like little children we had to ask activities for the bags which had to be returned by 7pm. The next night we went out for a movie night and the team couldn’t get the movie to work so it didn’t start until nearly 8:30pm. Before the movie was over a staff member came in to the pool area and kicked everyone out saying the pool closes at 10pm. We’re talking about several groups of adults sitting in pool chairs watching a movie. Completely harmless and running over time because of their staff’s inability to work the equipment. When trying to reason with the employee citing that the movie was started late his response was, “the rules are the pool closes at 10pm that’s all I can tell you.” He went on to say the “new GM” has made a lot of changes and is a stickler for rules.
We left today and went to the Mission Palms, a Hyatt owned property where we were greeted with waters, help to our room, a poolside bar with cabanas for shade and extremely kind staff. Very sad considering I don’t even pay Hyatt a monthly mortgage.
I am a Westgate owner as previously stated and I love the other properties I’ve been to. With that said, I would not only NOT recommend the Painted Mountain Resort I would highly discourage it. All of the rules and being treated like a child really put a damper on our 20th anniversary. I can’t believe I pay monthly to be treated like that. Unreal. I think they’ve forgotten they work in the...
Read moreIn January, 2021 I made reservations through Travelocity to stay at Westgate Painted Mountain Golf Resort in Mesa, Arizona arriving on January 19th and checking out on January 20th. After checking in at the front desk I walked to my room and noticed bags of garbage leaning against the wall just outside my door. After entering my room I noticed a strong smell of marijuana toward the back of the room likely coming from the connecting room next door. In addition to the smell the bathroom was dirty and the guests next door sounded as though they were in my room. It was clear to me that there was no way I or anyone else could enjoy an evening in that room. I picked up my luggage and immediately returned to the front desk. I informed them that the room was unsatisfactory and why and that I would need to be moved to another room. His response in condescending fashion was that because the rooms all share the same configuration they would likely be no quieter while overlooking the other issues I mentioned. Following his refusal to move me to another room I asked for a complete refund. His response was that he would not be able to process a refund because I had booked through Travelocity and the refund would have to come from them. I then contacted Travelocity and stayed on hold with an associate while they called Westgate. The customer service agent at Travelocity after speaking with Westgate informed me that Westgate had refused any kind of refund and that there was nothing they could do. I then took my check in information and key and returned them to the front desk and informed them I was leaving. I then booked another Hotel in Mesa for that evening. It is clear with documented proof I did not receive the services from Westgate I had paid for having instead to book last minute at another hotel. Being tossed back and forth between Travelocity and Westgate I am disgusted with the service and the way I was treated by both Travelocity and Westgate to the point I would never use or recommend either of them in the future. No wonder ratings on Trip Advisor are even worse!
A RESPONSE TO MY RATING FROM WESTGATE RESORT: Response from the owner 7 hours ago Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize that your most recent stay with us was not enjoyable. We will use your comments to help our team with continuous improvement towards the goal of providing an excellent experience for our guests.
As anyone can clearly see if you have an issue with this company you can expect an insincere, dismissive form letter like this in return. If they were truly apologetic towards my experience and because I didn't even stay there they would have offered me a refund as most reputable companies would have. As far as I can tell from my own personal experience and from numerous other ratings and complaints, there is no attempt being made of " Providing an excellent experience for guests". ...
Read moreThis is a timeshare/hotel. They have a nice large pool with a hot tub and a separate much larger hot tub. The first three days of our week the pool hot tub was dry and roped off. The facility is nicely decorated for the holidays. The inclusive activities are ping pong, corn hole, volleyball, shuffle board. There is a nice gold course but I don’t golf so can’t say how nice it is other than it looks nice. We had a studio room. The wood laminated floor is lifted in several areas. The pillows are extremely heavy and need to be adjusted each night. As other poster have said the mattress pads are horrible. They are like an old horse blanket and move around, bunch up and get lumpy. Our room has a jacuzzi tub but we didn’t use it. It would have been nice if the shower had a hand held device other than just mounted on the wall. There were double sinks in the baton that didn’t drain and one side of the bathroom countertop was peeling. The studio kitchenette is very small. You get exactly two of each item of dish, bowl, glasses or silverware. A large coffee pot is on the counter but unlike most hotels not a single coffee pouch, creamer or sugar was available. For some reason we kept getting gnats in our room. On one stroll thru the property (I really can’t call this a resort) there were swarms of them. Our our bed was up against an outside wall that is 6 large AC units outside. Every time they came on, which was often, we would hear the noise through our thin wall. We didn’t use it but it was a connecting room and the neighbors next door and upstairs we’re quite loud. On the third day the gardeners came around. If we thought the AC and neighbors were loud we were truly blown away with the gardening noise and it lasted all day long. Then they were back again for a couple hours the next day. There was a trash can right outside our door so taking out the trash was easy and convenient. The quite beautiful pool is supposed to be unlocked at 8 am but one day I had to call three times before it was finally unlocked at 11sm. The on timer for the pool hot tub is located in a strange location. The emergency cutoff switch is quite visible and marked while there are no markings for the hot tub timer which is very inconveniently located approximately 1foot off the ground. For older folks this is an issue. We decided to try Pizzicata which is conveniently located on the property. While the food was good our pizza was missing ingredients that are clearly stated in the extensive menu. Although we arrived in time for happy hour no one came by to take our drink orders I had to go to the bar myself. The Coke we also ordered was flat and no one came back to offer a different soft drink. Service was beyond terrible and when told our order was wrong they just said I’m sorry. Perhaps it was just a convergence of bad experiences all the way around for us but we...
